@porkchopbob I've never been a big fan of the track Layla. But Key To The Highway, Why Does Love Have To Be So Sad and Have You Ever Loved A Woman are the three I go to usually then put on a different album. It's amazing they sound so good. The pictures of Clapton and Duane in that studio during the sessions look like two drunks to me!

@bill_graham Gov't Mule's Pink Floyd shows are favorites of mine. No question the Pink Floyd originals are brilliant and I still enjoy them. But Warren and the others do really top notch covers of Floyd. One DVD Warren has a Green Stratocaster and man he nails David Gilmore's tone on several.

Yeah I was lucky to have seen the Mule do the complete "Darkside of the Moon" before COVID at the shed in Mansfield, MA and it was fantastic.

I have a bootleg DVD of the Mule's June 2, 2012  Mountain Jam concert where they did a Band set with members of Levon Helm's band which is just amazing. Check it out on YouTube if you get a chance

@porkchopbob:  "if you're spinning ABB Eerie, you're down with listening to alternate performances of the same song"

I figured you might call me on that!  Setlists in latter day ABB (1999-2014) were VASTLY different than the early days.  They do four covers on Erie, Pa:  Into The Mystic, The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down, Don't Think Twice (It's Alright) and Good Morning Little Schoolgirl.  Add in stuff from Hittin' The Note like Firing Line, High Cost Of Low Living.  Yes, they do Dreams and Jessica but overall it's a vastly different show than the early days.  Layla by TTB?  It's the exact same songs in the same order.  That's a huge difference.

Obviously Eerie '05 is different than their early days, we're talking 40 years, different lineup. But I don't really think there's a huge differences, at face value we are talking about different interpretations of the same songs. Mule covers entire albums, ABB has performed their early albums, Phish has done it. They are fun events, the same songs in the same order it the whole point. It just sounds like you aren't interested in hearing TTB perform these songs, which they put their own spin on, and that I can totally understand.

I hear ya. "Layla" has been so over-played over the years, it's hard to listen to it with any perspective (or without thinking of dead gangsters in meat trucks). The whole album is pretty intense, I find it a little exhausting to listen to in one sitting. Like I said, I like most of it but I can't skip past "Why Does Love..." or "Little Wing" fast enough. I've never been a big Clapton fan, but being a big Delany & Bonnie and Mad Dogs fan, no denying the band made some magic during their brief time together.

@porkchopbob I'm sure you've read or heard Dickey say he use to have a dream a lot where the Allman Brothers had been on the road for a good while as a five man outfit. Then they were on a bill with Delaney, Bonnie and Friends and when they played there was Duane Allman with them and after their set Dickey went rushing up to Duane and says "Hey man where in the world have you been?" Then he would wake up.

In Gregg's book My Cross To Bear, Gregg at that point wasn't very friendly with many of his remarks about Dickey Betts. But he did write " You have to give the devil his due. Dickey did really love Duane. And Dickey actually isn't a devil. He is just confused".

I've read quotes from every one of the original band members and they ALL loved and respected Duane Allman. Duane was the afterburner of all five of the others.

Clapton's new single. It is his anti vaccination ode!

Clapton is vaccinated. But it made him sick. So he doesn't like it. Plus he had to cancel what may be his last tour as at age 76 he is not sure he can play and sing much longer.

But at 76, if he catches Covid...he REALLY WILL BE SLOW HAND!!

I was in attendance at Mountain Jam when Mule did that set of The Band....The next evening was very special when Levon and his band headlined Sunday night...Allison Kraus and Warren Haynes sat in for a couple tunes of his set....It was also Levon’s birthday that weekend and given he died a short time after this performance, the entire weekend sticks in my memory like it happened just recently.

Levon was clearly suffering from his cancer and treatment as his vocals were a little weak and slightly strained but he was absolutely great as was his band..He seemed in great spirits too and really appreciated the always stellar Mountain Jam crowd, vibe, setting, etc...

Thanks for sharing as it sounds like it was a great time. You are lucky to have been at that Mountain Jam as the video from that Band set is truly amazing.

The bootleg also has the previous night's Mule show on it as well which is also a fantastic performance. Looks like they did their previous night set in the pouring rain. What it about festivals where it always seems to rain?

No kidding about the rain.....I attended 12 Mountain Jams and while most had very good weather, there were a couple that just had torrential down pours.

The first year Bob Weir and Rat Dog headlined (I can't recall the actual year) was an absolute brutal evening and my wife and I watched two songs and headed for our hotel as did a buddy and his wife.  Fortunately they came back a few years later with, I think, Jackie Green and they were great.  One of the best headliners I saw ever at Mountain Jam.

Mountain Jam for the first 12, 13 years was arguably the best festival on the east coast in my opinion.  Two nights of Mule and always a stellar Sunday night headliner.  And of course many, many other great acts.....

I miss Mountain Jam as it hasn't been the same since Warren no longer co-produced it.  Although it was coming back around when Warren and Mule rejoined the "fold" for lack of a better word....And then Covid sort of sank it again.
