Jimi Hendrix: Electric Church

Anybody else get a chance to see this this past Friday on Showtime? Some cool Jimi performances from the Atlanta Pop Festival, including Jimi doing the Star Spangled Banner amidst holiday fireworks, plus some excellent interviews from those who were there including Colonel Bruce Hampton. Footage of the festival crowd certainly indicates that this was the "Woodstock of the South" in all ways.
Something I noticed in the credits was that Steve Rash who was responsible for the whole Atlanta Pop archiving was not credited as producer for this performance, although he was referred to in an interview segment as Producer/Director of the "Atlanta Pop Film". I bring this up to provide some lingering hope to those who believe that one day there will actually be an Atlanta Pop film with significant performances by the Duane-era ABB included.

Yes!! I had it marked on my calendar so I wouldn't miss it. Great film and so wonderful to see this footage. At times Jimi seemed a bit frustrated with his guitar but overall a brilliant perfomance. He was so burned out from the endless touring and yet he gave 100%. The Star Spangled Banner playing during a fireworks display-fantastic!!!
From the interviews, sounds like the whole festival was filmed. C'mon! Quit holding out on us!!!

I enjoyed watching this, even though most of the Jimi concert footage has already been released (on Japanese laser disc). I also wish a complete festival movie will pop up sooner or later. There were a lot of other great acts such as Mountain, Chambers Brothers, Grand Funk, Poco, BB King, Ten Years After, Richie Havens, John Sebastian, etc.
Although I like Derek and Susan, and know they are greats musicians, I thought it was strange that they appeared in the documentary (they were interviewed). Neither of the two were alive when Jimi was alive, nor when the Atlanta Pop Festival took place.

Jimi seemed distracted and almost bored. I think he was ready for something new at that point, and knew he was flirting with becoming a cliché, even though much of his playing is wonderful. Fireworks behind the "Star Spangled banner?" He should have never played that version of the anthem ever again after Woodstock.

Saw it the other night..great footage..would love to see the ABB set!!!

When is the DVD of this going to be released? Amazon does not have it yet.

Have it on the DVR, looking forward as I attended the fest. Listened to Jimi from outside the fence, was feeling a bit out of time and did not want to fight the crowd.
Highlight was Duane and Dickey, tho.

When is the DVD of this going to be released? Amazon does not have it yet.
On my calendar I have October 30th as the DVD release date. Got it from somewhere on the internet.
