Although Meat Loaf pretty much became a caricature, Bat Out of Hell was a phenomenal work at its time of inception. Almost a rock opera in structure - with contributions from Roy Bitan (Springsteen) in the mix. Produced by Todd Rundgren. I'd call it a masterpiece.

and don't forget he wrote hits for others "its all coming back to me now", "making love out of nothing at all", "total eclipse of the heart", etc
