And toward the end he talks about Dickey. I remember now Jeff Hanna's name being on the credits for the. Highway Call album.

Also Jeff's description of the original Allman Brothers Band was what I remember. The energy, drive, swagger and leadership was coming from Duane.

It was indeed Duane's show as Dickey once put it. You could instantly tell Duane was the leader of the band and the music director if you will. The other five guys were complimenting Duane and feeding off his energy but really doing it too. Gregg did most of the singing but as Jeff said Gregg was behind his organ with a microphone and Duane was the center of the action. Duane was the front man if you will though he didn't sing except occasionally Dimples.

I'm rather sure though Berry Oakley was mostly responsible for putting the swing into many of their songs. Bill Graham would say in interviews they could swing like a big band.

After Duane was killed I just couldn't see how they could continue. But the five man band did okay.

The Allman Brothers Band had some great lineups post Duane and several very good guitar players. Dickey, Warren , Jack and Derek.  But to me none of the later lineups as good as some were had the mojo the original lineup did live with Duane and Berry.

Here is Bill Graham.
