If I recall correctly, I think it was Duane's intention to release a live album as the follow up to their eponymous first release and that is why "Ludlow Garage" was recorded in April 1970.
As it turned out, the quality was completely inadequate and so they later (July 1970) went into the studio and recorded "Idlewild South".
Duane's wish for a live album was finally realised the following year at the Fillmore East.
I therefore agree with Rob that this is an obvious choice to be released with the remastered "Idlewild South" ... especially if current sonic techniques have improved such that a much cleaner version than the one released 25 years ago has been achieved.

really looking forward to this release .... not a bad November with the Idlewild South Box Set and Kirk's book. Any new or old Allman Brothers is a good thing.

Agree...something new is always welcome...HOWEVER I do believe that legal issues are the stumblling blocks to material being released

Fresh press, with nothing new to offer unfortunately : http://www.superdeluxeedition.com/news/the-allman-brothers-band-idlewild-south-4-disc-super-deluxe/

Not on any official release, but they have been in trading circles for years on the "Idlewild South Out-takes" disc ...

I'm very excited about more Allman in 5.1
Why wasn't there a disc of Brothers & Sisters in 5.1 ? It's gotta be their best album ever.
It's a shame they are adding the muddy sounding show Ludlow Garage as a bonus disc/s
I'd much prefer another show or some more outtakes from the studio sessions. Surely there were more than the 3 or 4 they found.
What about alternative takes or even studio jams, there must have been some recorded
Well I guess you gotta be happy with what we get.

HTN will carry this release. We are just waiting for the record label to give us the OK to post information. John Lynskey, HTN Editor, wrote the in-depth liner notes that I know you will enjoy!

Here is another update that also includes the track listing for the 2 CD set which is a little different. It drops the IMOER outtake and the Revival single version and has the rest plus all the Ludlow songs.
I'll likely get the 2 CD version as it is $50 cheaper than the box set.

Lowest price online is about $40.00 from Amazon UK.
Lowest price within the US is $53.97 at Bull Moose, who ship such boxes 2 Day Priority included.

The unreleased tracks themselves are cool enough, but it's just too bad that they couldn't put together a package with more unreleased (live) material, something in the vein of the B&S reissue.
I know I had brought up the idea on this board of "Beginnings" reissue with the first 2 albums remastered on one disc, a second disc of alts/outtakes/demos from both albums, and a third (and possibly 4th disc) of unreleased live material from the era.

Well, they are sure screwing us ardent fans here - all I want is the `Liz Reed' alternate
version so now I have to get the 4-disc box instead of the 2-CD set. Unbelievable.

HTN will offer all three versions of this release, but the record label wants us to wait until Tuesday to put everything up on our website.

Not being sold by HTN because of a disagreement with Universal over cost.... has this ever happened before?

Perhaps a bit premature, but this package may be the best ABB archive release yet

I already placed my pre-order with HTN. Selling it at 59.00+ is not too bad, compared to Amazon, which is selling it for 69.00+. In spite of the limited unreleased tracks, the 32 page booklet may be a good price of admission.

Don't forget $53.97 w/either First Class or Priority shipping at Bull Moose. That's where my pre order resides.

Did you check in with HTN on this.....looks like problems with universal over the price and pre orders I would think may be affected as a result.

Wow, HTN not selling it. I'd be interested in hearing the story behind that, youd' think they would be on the same page since John Lynskey did the liner notes.

I pre-ordered this box set from them as well.
Thanks for the info.
I've never ordered anything from them before but it's the best price I've seen.

FYI-The super deluxe edition is currently available for pre-order at $43.25 including shipping at AmazonUK.Delivery takes a little longer but it is the lowest price i've seen so far.

I've never ordered anything from them before but it's the best price I've seen. You won't be sorry. I've been buying from them since 2008, and have NEVER had a damaged item, or an item lost in transit, etc.

HTN was curious about the UK prices as well. Especially when uDiscover posted their story about Idlewild. Turns out the UK has lower royalty rates for artist....interesting.
We are selling the product, it is back up on our website. There is quite a story to tell about us taking it down for awhile but that tale will be told in the future.

If I spring for the Super Deluxe Edition 5.1 Surround Sound stereo , will I hear any improvement , or anything different on my 2 channel conventional stereo?

The surround sound is only accessible through the Blu ray disc, which can only be played through a Blu ray capable player. The 3 CDs will be in "improved" stereo (that is, remixed, and remastered). Those should play on your 2 channel setup, and yes, you should hear an improvement.

The 5.1 mix is life-changing !!!! Kevin Reeves has opened our ears to things NEVER heard before !!!! MORE Midnight Rider than we've been used to for 45 years !!!

I was wondering if anyone has heard this remaster from MOFI?

Well, I sold my copy when this set was announced. It was okay, but a little too "bright" for my taste. Berry's bass should never be washed out of a remastering, and it nearly was there. I still have the MFSL vinyl, since it sounds great, compared to the digital counterpart.
