Top 5 guitar solos of all time!!!Â
I wasn't expecting "Sweet Georgia Brown" by Chet Atkins to be in the top 5.Â

Guide to lightweight guitars

Posted by: @robertdee@jszfunk That is a Gretsch guitar Duane Eddy gave Richie. And he still owns it I see.Â
Do you like Larry Carlton? I saw him in 1981 and it was all jazz on a Gibson ES-335. Larry was squeaky clean with a nice ES-335 hollow body tone and fast fingers.Â
Here he is with a Tele. Don't see many jazz players playing a Telecaster.Â
Â
I like Larry and I have one of his Truefire courses. Â Only done a few of the modules, very melodic.
I have pre ordered one of these, I am looking for an inexpensive LP type with P90s. Â This has a lot of neat features, if the frets are good might the solution.
Other jazz players using a Tele are Bill Frissel and Mike Stern. Lots really just not much name recognition.

I guess I'll go with the Epiphone Les Paul. I've always wanted a Les Paul.Â
Saw Duane Betts last night and he played a Gold Top exclusively and it and he sounded real good.Â
Johnny played an SG and he sounded real good. His slide playing is among the best on the road today. Most people don't know him but we know him here!Â

Johnny playing OUTSTANDING SLIDE GUITAR!!Â
The other two guys are fine players too!!Â
This is nice.Â

How was the show, band and etc?

Everyone has a plan, till you get punched in the face,

Rory Gallagher gear....I didn't get into Rory until the new millenium but man can he play the blues. Reminds me of an Irish SRV.
https://www.guitarworld.com/features/rory-gallagher-gear-behind-the-legend

@jszfunk It was a good show. Enjoyed it. A packed house but it was a small venue.Â
Duane Betts signed the copy I bought of his new solo album. Then I asked Johnny and he signed it too saying he was all over the album. I asked about Allman Betts Band and he said they're all friends again and they have been playing the Allman Betts Band shows on the books this year.Â
Johnny handed Duane's solo CD to Perdo and he signed it too. But Berry Duane Oakley is the bass player on Duane's album. I decided not to ask why Oakley wasn't there.Â
Palmetto Motel is the name Duane gave Dickey's guest house in Florida. Duane Betts and his wife who ran the merchandise table in the front stay in the Palmetto Motel often now while Dickey and Donna stay in the main mansion. Swimming pool, boat dock, private island out in the sound. I'm happy Dickey, who will be 80 in December, has a very comfortable retirement!!Â
I had to stay in bed the next day. My old legs weren't use to standing for hours.Â
It looked like perhaps they were in Dickey's tour bus with an equipment trailer attached to the back. It looked like the same greyhound size tour bus to me. Maybe it wasn't Dickey's.Â

Happy Birthday Mick Jagger!! 80 years old today and CNN said with a net worth of $500 million dollars and the front man of the Rolling Stones for 61 years, Mick probably is the most successful front man/lead singer in the history of rock and roll!!Â

Jeff Beck owned about 70 guitars and these 10 electrics were his favorites.Â

Nice red Les Paul with zebra pickups and fine vibrato from the player using the bridge pickup.Â

Keith Richards, who owns thousands of electric guitars, said they haven't really improved the electric guitar since Les Paul and Leo Fender tinkered with it.Â
https://www.guitarworld.com/features/keith-richards-interview-electric-guitar-les-paul-leo-fender

In June 2023 Keith Richards said " I own over 3,000 electric guitars! It's an incredible collection of instruments. But I just have one pair of hands so I only ever play about ten of them".Â
Ha ha. That's like a man saying he owns over 1,000 automobiles but I have just two hands and feet so I only drive about 10 of them".Â
Hey Bill Graham!!! I've read about 250 of Keith's guitars are Les Pauls. Does Joe Bonamassa own that many?Â
Guess it's possible Keith owns more Les Pauls than anyone.Â
Here is the old man himself with one of his guitars.Â

1965! 4 years later in 1969, Phil Walden invited Atlantic Records to check out the Allman Brothers Band. Their reaction was negative.Â
First you can't break at band out of the south. Gotta be New York or LA. Also these guys don't do anything. Perhaps if you get that blonde singer out from behind that organ and stick a salami down his pants and have him jump around like MICK JAGGER they might have a chance!!Â
1965!!Â
Â
Keith Richards the legendary gitteerist for the Rolling Stones!!! Isn't that what the man says here? Gitteerist!!Â

Carlos Santana favorite guitars

Love the 1952/53 Goldtop refinished to a flametop with humbuckers replacing the P90's and a tune-o-matic tailpiece. Â
Â

@bill_graham Didn't know Carlos smashed the SG which I thought sounded so darn good on the Woodstock movie. Wouldn't stay in tune. Reminds me of the story Red Dog told about Dickey Betts smashing one of Dickey's early Les Pauls because it wouldn't stay in tune.Â
That Les Paul indeed is beautiful. The cream of the crop for Santana's guitars.Â
And the dream about Stevie Ray Vaughan was some way out crazy stuff! "I don't have any fingers now!!" Woah!!Â
Here is Carlos pushing Eric Clapton. Love some of the expressions on Clapton's face.Â

@bill_graham Those player series are very fine instruments. They have some at the big music store here. A beautiful Epiphone Les Paul sunburst there right now too and less than $2 thousand dollars brand new.Â
I wish Gary was still around and played at the Jeff Beck tribute.Â
I love how well Derek Trucks and Susan played and Eric Clapton clearly was impressed with those two.Â
But the late Gary Moore could play The Sky Is Crying too!!Â
Just as with Eddie Van Halen and Steve Vai, Derek Trucks, Susan Tedeshi and Eric Clapton wouldn't have a thing on the late Gary Moore. Gary was every bit as good as Derek, Susan and Clapton!!!Â
Â
This is a hot one I enjoy from time to time too!!Â

Myles Kennedy PRS sig model. Looks like humbucker Tele
https://www.guitarworld.com/features/paul-reed-smith-myles-kennedy-nf-53-signature-guitar

@bill_graham Yes. Paul Reed Smith has models with a close copy of a Strat and Tele bodies but with the distinctive PRS neck and headstock.Â
PRS is capturing some of Fender's market share with those guitars which I'm told are high quality instruments.Â
Here is a, as they call them at the big music store here, a Paul Reed Fender guitar hitting the note.Â

Consider the Squire PJ Mustang bass. About half of what a Precision or Jazz would cost. Hecho en Mexico - yet, I've seen several of these on big stages (Ringo's All Stars, for instance). Short scale - easy swap over for a guitar player. Â
Â

@rusty The big music store where I live right now have some Squire and Epiphone versions of guitars and bass instruments which look and play like Fender and Gibson instruments for a lot less money.Â
Of course Squire is owned by Fender and Epiphone is owned by Gibson. There is a beautiful Red Burst Les Paul there right now for 65 % LESS than a Gibson. It even has "Les Paul" on the headstock.Â
And some of the new Squire instruments have "by Fender" on the headstock in small letters. You are actually getting a Fender or Gibson instrument at a lower price but these days good quality.Â
