Kurt Cobain’s smashed Fender guitar sells for almost $600,000.
They don't even have to be in one piece to get crazy money at auction. Oh well, it is a piece of rock history I guess.

I recently read a very depressing account of Kurt Cobain who was very talented and creative but a very angry man.
In 1992 out of left field and an unexpected surprise to everyone, Kurt became the front man, guitarist and primary writer for the most commercially successful band on the planet.
This overnight success, fame and fortune ( their second album unexpectedly became huge selling over 300,000 copies a week for a total of 30 million copies making Kurt an overnight multimillionaire!! In no time Kurt was worth $100 million dollars!! )
Ironically this huge success made his anger worse and he became more self destructive consuming drugs like candy and some of his friends thought he was trying to kill himself. Kurt began tearing up his guitars, amps and the equipment of his band mates. Then with $100 million dollars in the bank, chronic stomach pain and a heroin addiction that would kill most people he did kill himself with a shotgun at age 27. So sad.
Here he is tearing up his gear and some of his mate's gear.
( Dickey did this to a Les Paul once but it was because the guitar was a dud!! The darn thing just wouldn't stay in tune!!)
This has been viewed on YouTube 1.6 BILLION TIMES!!
This is cult status!! By a man who hated musicianship and becoming some slick accomplished guitarist. He thought all that was just a waist of time and in the way of pure creativity.
Duane Betts first solo album has THIS SONG which features Derek Trucks on guitar and the song is about DICKEY BETTS.
Duane Betts said Derek Trucks gave him the idea for the song when Derek told Duane his father was a guitar player who isn't afraid to stare into the sun. 🌞
Here is Duane Betts with Derek Trucks!

Interesting history about the Kris Derrig LP replica's. Never heard of him or those guitars. I just assumed Slash was playing Gibson LP's from the get go.

Some guitar porn from England. July 1974.
Allman Brothers doing Blue Sky for Great Britain, Berry Oakley and Duane Allman. Nice interesting shuffle in background and Chuck and Dickey playing pretty.
Deep Purple great Richie Blackmore names his top five favorite guitarists. The five players who continue today to be Richie Blackmore's all time favorites.
5. Jeff Beck.
4. Eric Johnson
3. Shuggie Otis.
2. Jimi Hendrix.
1. Tommy Steel.
When I saw the article and list, I just knew Eddie Van Halen or Steve Vai wouldn't be on it.
From what I've read Richie had no interest in speaking with or hanging with Eddie.
Richie said he met Jeff Beck in 1965 when he was doing a session Jimmy Page was producing and instantly was drawn to Jeff's style, technique and tone.

@jszfunk That is a Gretsch guitar Duane Eddy gave Richie. And he still owns it I see.
Do you like Larry Carlton? I saw him in 1981 and it was all jazz on a Gibson ES-335. Larry was squeaky clean with a nice ES-335 hollow body tone and fast fingers.
Here he is with a Tele. Don't see many jazz players playing a Telecaster.
@bill_graham That is said to be one of the best amps ever. Lots of country and western swing bands used it back in the 50's and 60's.
Here is a song called SRV by Eric Johnson.
I enjoy listening and watching Eric Johnson much more that the other shredders. Johnson is so melodic plus his tone is like a violin.
This is good!

Great clip rd, thanks for sharing.
Yeah, Jim Marshall evidently based his first Marshall amp on a copy of the 1959 Fender tweed Bassman and the rest is history.
Marc Ford's 1962 SG Custom returned to him

@bill_graham He he. I saw this on cable TV the other day. Actually that is the late MARY Ford's Gibson SG Les Paul.
Mary and Les played those SG Les Pauls just briefly. Mr. Paul wasn't consulted about the design change and it wasn't long until he told Gibson to take his name off the instrument. Les and Mary returned to their older Les Paul guitars seen in this clip.
Gibson liked the guitar and saw a market for it. After removing Les Paul's name it stayed in the line as just the SG and has consistently been one of Gibson's best sellers to this day.

And here they are being serious.
Also as many know, the late Jeff Beck and Lee Paul were great friends for 30 years.
Here is Jeff and Miss May doing their version.

Best resonator guitars!!
I think Duane's was a Regal which isn't on the list. It's on Little Martha and Dickey plays it on Pony Boy and is holding it on the cover of the album Highway Call.

Johnny playing it at Dickey's house last year.
Duane with it. Duane Allman bought this REGAL resonator guitar in 1969 for $350.00. Duane was able to shave off $25.00 a week from his Allman Brothers Band income and send the man in Nashville $50.00 every two weeks until it was paid in full.
