Fender stopped using swamp ash in guitars 2020 article due to sourcing issues. Will only use for custom shop orders.
Got the old 'site can't be reached' message for that. Guess that's what's on my 79. Sure is heavy. Got it because the pro owner got a lasting shoulder ache from it. My friend sold his LP for same reason. I think he said his was maple.
My bad, I didn't copy the complete address so this should workPosted by: @tenorsfanGot the old 'site can't be reached' message for that. Guess that's what's on my 79. Sure is heavy. Les Paul's can be heavy guitars. Some of the ones from the Norlin era in the 1970's could be heavier than 10 Lbs due to the Mahogany they were sourcing. That is one of the reasons Gibson started routing holes for weight relief in the Mahogany bodies to get them under 8lbs in some cases.
My Les Paul weighs just under 9.5 lbs but is still much heavier than a modern Fender Strat.

@bill_graham I remember in the mid 60's when I saw the Rolling Stones on TV and twice in concert, Keef played a Les Paul.
Of course in the 70's and 80's Keef was known more as a Tele player.
But with 3,000 guitars in his living room or bed room ( Bill I wonder which room Keef keeps his guitars in??) with 3,000 guitars, it would be so interesting to see how many of each type Keef owns.
I guess it's possible Keef owns several hundred Les Pauls don't you think?

The Guitar solos are great, but the best part is being able to hear Berry so clearly. I keep forgetting how good he was and how much he added.

I am sure Keef has a few Les Paul's but he is a Telecaster man these days so not sure how many LP's he has in his storage stash.

@bill_graham I love his 1957 Les Paul Custom. Nice art painted on it. Three pickups.
With 3,000 plus guitars I wonder if Keef would consider letting me have it for $600.00?
@njpaulc I just listened again paying careful attention to Berry Oakley and he is amazing. So unique.
You know Dickey Betts always said in interviews when asked how did he and Duane work so well together to create the unique Allman Brothers Band sound and Dickey has said more than once that he always credits Berry Oakley having a huge part in the ABB sound being so unique but it rarely gets printed.
Of course Gregg's organ and the way the drummers sound together is a part of it too.
They had their own sound and it hooked me as a young man.
I always thought this live track from Eat A Peach shows the contribution of ALL SIX of them so clearly.
This is so amazingly tight with all six men exactly in the pocket from start to finish. Like they are controlled by one brain!

Nice 1958 Les Paul. This young man sure has a nose for finding and buying some really stellar vintage guitars.

Posted by: @robertdeeThe other live version of the original lineup doing Blue Sky!!
Great solo from Duane then Dickey Betts plays a Blue Sky solo that is absolutely amazing!
Good stuff!!
This is my favorite version of Blue Sky. Warren kills it on his solo when he starts the slide at 3:35 and REALLY lays it on at the 4:14-5:05 mark. To me, does not get much better than that.

@jszfunk Of course Joe bought that guitar. He owns over a thousand. Anyone with the money would have to buy it because it's so attractive!! That green color is fantastic. You would worry if the pickups and electronics were good later.
Here is Joe at age 13!!!
Never heard of this man. I'm not sophisticated enough to know of him. Roger Ebert says this is the greatest western ever made.
Trademark is a nice instrumental. Eric Johnson is similar to Joe Bonamassa. A technical wizard. But to me Johnson has a style and tone that is unique to him and with all due respect, I don't hear that with Joe.

Cherry red Les Paul that apparently no one was crazy about but was owned by famous people and received the handle "Lucy".
John Sebastian of the Loving Spoonful bought it first and eventually sold it to Rick Derringer who sent it to Gibson for modification including removing the Bigsby whammy.
Derringer didn't like it when he got it back from Gibson and eventually sold it to ERIC CLAPTON!
Clapton didn't like it either and played it very little preferring to play a Gibson SG or Gibson Firebird he owned.
Clapton decided he didn't even want it so gave it to George Harrison. The Harrison estate continues to own the guitar.
