@bill_graham I've seen Neil play that guitar and it has a unique tone. Not typical of a late 50's and onward Les Paul.Â
It was nice to learn about the specs of the guitar which visually one can see are not typical of a Les Paul.Â

New humbucker single coils for Fender guitars and new tones as well.Â
Gibson and Fender are still the two big names I assume but no doubt Ibanez and Paul Reed Smith are gaining ground.Â

Best years for Les Paul guitars and years to avoid.Â
https://musicstrive.com/best-years-for-gibson-les-paul/#changes-to-the-les-paul-in-the-norlin-era Â
I knew nothing about Les Paul guitars back then but I did know what the guitar looked like because my folks watched Les Paul and Mary Ford on television. And I remember about 1961 their guitars looked very different. Les and Mary actually began playing SG guitars.Â
But I read in a guitar magazine in the early 1970's that Les Paul didn't like the new design and it was apparently done without Les' approval in an attempt to improve sales.Â
Les Paul the man notified Gibson he didn't like the new design and to remove his name from the instrument. At this point Gibson changed the guitar to Gibson SG.Â
Apparently there were some years where the Les Paul wasn't made because of Mr. Paul's dissatisfaction with the redesign.Â

I've wanted a Telecaster for a few years. This one looks like a great instrument. Simi hollow body and new type Humbuckers!!Â
And Josh Smith crowing about why a Tele is better than any other guitar!Â

Famous Fender amp

Wow I've never seen two band members at each other's throats like these two. Lawyers, off duty police keeping them from snooping in each other's dressing rooms and law suites and they still perform together in the band.Â
When Glen Frey and Don Felder were ready to kill each other, Felder was kicked off the stage but that I guess was Don Henley voting with Frey.Â
Both of these guys refused to quit because without this band they may not have the big paycheck.Â

Great sweet guitar playing!! This is top notch!!!Â

With David Lindley and Wayne Shorter passing on let's be thankful we still have Dickey and Jaimoe.Â
Dickey will be 80 this year. Here is Dickey singing and being interviewed on Nashville Now in 1986.Â
This is a FANTASTIC country song Dickey co-wrote that should have been a huge country hit. It is a wonderful performance from Dickey singing and playing!!! Enjoy.Â
Â
Â

That was amazing. Trying to resist the impulse to exclaim that was the best Dickey Betts I've ever heard. Never paid him [or maybe anybody else] that much mind after Duane, but was gassed this time, Betts so manly and self assured, and that Duane redolent tone, and such a fantastic song. Play it again, Sam.

What do we have here? A Gretsch, a Stratocaster and a Telecaster plus a pounding piano!!!Â

Dean guitars found in contempt of court for continuing to sell guitars that are too close to Gibson Flying V, Explorer and SG body and headstock design.Â
Gibson must now present the court with how much money Dean has cost them in lost sales.Â
I thought they settled this out of court.Â

Everyone has a plan, till you get punched in the face,

i don't pretend to understand the trademark laws but seems to me other companies should not be able to make blatant copies of another companies guitar shape and style.
Wish someone could explain this to me why others an make almost identical copies of Fender Strats and Gibson Les Pauls.Â

@bill_graham When Fender sued the judge ruled the only shape that is protected is their headstocks and logos. Not the body.Â
Indeed John Mayer's custom Paul Reed Smith has the standard PRS headstock design but the body apparently is exactly like a Strat. Mayer was a Strat player exclusively until Paul Reed Smith signed him.Â
This player claims to have solved the problem many Les Paul players have keeping the guitar in tune.Â
As we know, Dickey Betts decided to follow Duane Allman's lead in late 1970 and play a Les Paul after an SG summer of 1970 and a Stratocaster late 1969 to summer of 1970. ( Before the Strat and when the ABB was formed, Dickey was playing an ES-335 Gibson. And we know Dickey had trouble keeping some of the Les Pauls in tune and one in particular was such a beast to keep in tune Dickey destroyed that Les Paul by beating it into the stage so hard it smashed. Red Dog put it in the dumpster outside where they were playing. After Dickey found his 1957 Goldie Les Paul in 1974, he had one that stayed in tune and had the best tone too.Â
Here is the article about solving your Les Paul going out of tune problem!Â

Thanks rd, yeah I read that about the Fender lawsuit. Still seems a bit unfair to me to allow others to copy the Strat or Les Paul body shape.
You beat me to the punch posting the voodoo skull string tree as I was just going post that.
Pretty ingenius gizmo although I think I would prefer something less heavy metal
https://www.string-butler.com/
I think I am too old for the skull 🙂Â

@bill_graham I'm too old for it too. Plus I've never found a Les Paul I was willing to pay the bucks they wanted because my level of play is perhaps slightly above average. I have a SG that sounds good and an old 63 Strat kinda beat up but somebody routed out the bridge pickup and installed a humbucker. So many Stratocasters are modified INCLUDING the ones Fender makes new. Unlike a Les Paul, Strats from the factory are sold with dozens of changes and variations.Â
Bill. Check out this Charvel. Headstock EXACTLY like a Strat!! Initially thought Fender would sue over this but several years ago I found out at the big music store here that Fender owns Charvel and Jackson. Grover Jackson sold them years ago.Â
Also the solo here is letter perfect. Wish I could play like this. The note progression. Every note seems EXACTLY where it should be in relationship to the note played before it. Top shelf playing indeed.Â

Wish I could play an acoustic guitar like Billy Strings. He may be the hottest flat picker out there today.Â
