Good news. Looking forward to seeing it as it didn't screen close to my area. 

Gregg Allman apparently is the most famous member of the Allman Brothers Band probably by a good measure. 

People who are not huge fans of the band usually would know who Gregg is but maybe not Dickey and Duane. Less likely Berry and especially Butch Trucks and Jaimoe. 

Gov't Mule fans who are not that big on the Allman Brothers Band would know Warren. TTB has a good following. But neither group is close to as famous as the Allman Brothers Band. I'm all for that changing!!:)

The Allman Brothers Band is by far my favorite band but I know it was never as famous as the Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin etc. 1973,74 and 75 the ABB was close with a huge selling album which was number 1 for five weeks and headlining coliseums and big festivals nationwide. That is huge anyway one slices it. 

So I think all would agree Gregg Allman is probably the only member of the Allman Brothers who could support the expense of being the focus of such a film for national release.

Great news regardless - can't wait

Enjoy. I saw it in the theater, and it brought back a lot of memories. You'll see clips of great musicians & music execs that most will recognize - some still with us & some not. The way the story is presented is touching & is done quite well. 

Finally watched it! 

The good: gives a well rounded  picture of Gregg as an artist and a person, and how much his inner circle supported him, and really understood him. 

The bad:

I would have axed the Cher intro, for one. Some of the background slides should change more slowly. They are too fast to really take them in.

Chronological with photos and music it was not. Not remotely. Views like as series of vinettes, doesn't have great flow. There are def people and voices missing. The whole film could have included more if everyone wasn't on some slow click track, because it just doesn't seem like they speak this way in real life.

I would give it a B+, but I sure wish they'd worked on it a little more.

But I should also add it is a touching portrait of an American Icon, and they did a great job of bringing out how racist it was at the time/how groundbreaking it was to have an integrated band.

I was happy to pay my $15 to Apple to watch it last night 

Loved: all the previously unreleased stuff ( pics and vids, 2014 interview, Duane audio interview, etc ) and how they wove it all into what we've seen before.

I saw it and liked it. Saw some footage I had not seen before.

I agree with the negative parts islalala mentioned. 

That Cher part inspired me to dust off my copy of the Allman and Woman album. For just a few seconds.... then I thought maybe not. 

Yes no mention of the last show and ending the band in 2014. As we know from Gregg and Warren Haynes interviews after 2014, Gregg, Warren and Derek Trucks wanted to sunset the ABB in 2009. 

I had to watch twice.  Only to get a better feel.  As a fan I was there was more in documentary.  But I enjoyed every minute. 

I was shock to hear about Gregg ODing the day brother died.  I wish they talk about Gregg singing at Canisius High School during his rehab in Buffalo.  Also, think it was a miss when they didn't tie in "The Dark End of the Street" and "Song for Adam."  When they were talking about, "My Only True Friend."  Those 3 songs were directly connected to Duane.  

I thought that it was very well done and i enjoyed it. I would have liked to have seen some kudos for Warren and Allen on the '89 reunion and band chemistry, and the Seven Turns album in '90, similar to the acknowledgment that Chuck was given for coming on board and contributing to Brothers And Sisters.

@allmansrvvegas I too didn't know Gregg suffered an overdose the day his brother died. I was eating breakfast and had the Today Show on TV. I guess it was October 30th. And among the news stories newscaster Frank Blair said " A member of the famed Allman Brothers Band died after a motorcycle crash in Macon, Georgia." I was " Oh NO!! Who was it?". Then he said " group leader Duane Allman was 24 years old". 

I couldn't imagine how they could continue. I don't know about others here but when I was able to see the band, Duane Allman loomed HUGE on the stage. It was kinda like Santana. He didn't sing usually but he was the focus of the band. There is no question it was Duane's band and he was the leader. It was never stated that I know of but it was abundantly clear I thought when you saw them on stage. It didn't come across as Duane and Gregg's band either. Duane was who most people watched much of the time as the drive and energy was originating with him and it really did seem the other five were feeding off Duane. Dickey once said " In the original band we all knew it was Duane's show". 

If it was that kind of shock and loss to big fans like myself then the impact of Gregg had to have been immeasurable!! A tremendous loss. Duane was apparently also Gregg's father figure. 

In several interviews Warren Haynes talked about how huge Duane continued to loom large with Gregg and the band. Gregg always had Duane close in thought. Gregg has said even late in life that Duane " was the greatest brother, band leader and guitar player. He could set a stage on fire right now man". 

I was surprised the band continued after Duane. I don't want to say it was never as good but to me it wasn't or at least as exciting. As Gregg would say, his brother was a pistol and could set fire to a room or a stage in a New York minute. 

Also Gregg suffered over his brother being the big boy behind the band and just as they finally broke out as Duane said they would ..and the money started pouring in.. his brother was gone. Gregg according to interviews always thought his brother got cheated. 

I'm glad I got to see the movie. Can you imagine getting up everyday and being Gregg Allman. Certainly a crazy wild ride and trip !!!
