Gregg Allman Refused To Use Monitors -Kenny Vaughan

I've noticed Gregg saying on audience tapes of the original band that he has no monitor or give me more monitor.
Gives me the impression Gregg relied on monitors at shows.
But what do I know? Not saying this info above is incorrect.

Kenny is a excellent guitar player himself. If you ever get the chance to see Marty Stuart his Fabulous Superlatives, go . They are what I call country rock. Marty plays the historic "B-bender" guitar from Clarence White of the early Byrds. Nice to hear his spin on Gregg, Dickey and Jack

Marty and the Superlatives - I don't think there is a band anywhere with more talent. Every one of those guys are first-string, allstars at their instruments - beyond, even. Chris Scruggs (grandson of Earl Scruggs) plays bass in the band but is very adept at guitar, steel guitar, mandolin ... anything that's got strings on it! In the post Allman Brothers world, they became my go-to band! I go as far as telling folks that if they buy a ticket, attend the show and end up being unsatisfied that I will refund their ticket price. I have never had anybody take me up on the offer. 😉

Rusty, gotta agree. I've seen Marty and the boys several times. They put on a great show, change up setlists, play a wide variety of country stars songs and a have the best rhinestone cowboy outfits. Almost ways electric but one show was acoustic, still good.

Have seen Marty live in multiple bands and settings. Always a great show! Saw him, once, playing with Emmy Lou is a bluegrass setting. She was unable to tune her guitar, so she strummed and he tuned. Always got a kick out of that!

No doubt...at the volume they played at there would be no way he could hear himself without monitors and I've heard him say it too on many recordings

Interesting little interview. I really like how he speaks of Jack. I agree. As I am not a musician, I do not understand monitors, so someone would have to explain it. I guess so you can hear yourself sing?
Having said that, I agree with Blackie. I have some old recordings and Gregg and someone else in the band (I think Duane) says something along the lines of they need more monitor.
However, if he didn't use monitors could that explain why he butchered lyrics frequently? Many of the songs he had sung countless times. I've seen Derek and Warren kind of look at each other when that occurred and just keep playing.
Everything in Moderation. Including Moderation.

@lee Gregg likely butchered those lyrics ( I heard him do that at shows in the 1970's) for the same reason Dickey blew solos especially in the late 90's.
The results on the mind of years of abusing drugs and alcohol. Or current use.
In 1995 Dickey admitted in an interview that he finally got straighten out. That he had gone on a two year drunk and he realized it wasn't pleasant for the guys in the band.
But just a year later he was loaded again and pulled a knife on Allen Woody. Kirk West saw it and said it was the scariest thing he had ever witnessed.
A few months later Warren Haynes and Woody left the band.
It's a real shame as I think Dickey was the most talented guitarist the band ever had. Not saying he was a better guitar player than Duane, Derek etc but just as good when on his game with his own style and sound.
His singing and song writing is part of why I say he was the most talented.
Here is an example of just how good Dickey could write, sing and play guitar. This smokes!!
