Gregg Allman on his album, ‘Back to Macon GA,’ and his feud with Dickey Betts

Gregg Allman Plans His Solo Future

You’ve added more Allman Brothers songs to the Gregg Allman Band set list, including “Southbound”—and when you play that you always make sure to announce that Dickey Betts wrote it. You guys had a very bitter public falling out in 2000. Why do you say that?
Because he should be credited for writing a very good song! Like they say, time heals. I haven’t seen him in a very long time and would be very open to it. In fact, I would love to play with him again.
So are you saying that…?
...just to jam! I love my band and I’m pretty set for guitar players, but I’d love to see Betts. We had our ups and down and all our demons. We had our problems, our ins and outs and our public embarrassments on both sides. But that’s all way behind us now. There’s nothing at all wrong with forgive and forget.

For some reason your link didn't work for me, so I'll attach it here as well.

Unless this was from the Onion or something - cool!
I'd love to see Gregg and Dickey do an acoustic duet tour (maybe bring Chuck) - small halls with some story telling in between the unplugged tunes. I think it would be a great show!

Thanks. Definitely not the Onion.

Seems like it has always been up to Dickey B.
Just sayin'

Very nice interview Alan! Some interesting topics and view points and except for the last (almost obligatory) question and answer finally a far less "generic" interview than a bunch of them that got done in recent times.

After all the things Gregg said about Dickey in his book you can't blame Dickey. Besides who fired who and then go back and revisit all the things Gregg has said About Dickey though the years. But having said that I would love to hear Dickey and Gregg play together again. Although there might be some unfixable damage there.

Gospel! Dis here is!
Since the FAX, I can count on one hand - with several fingers to spare, the number of times Dickey has even mentioned his former bandmates in the media. But like Gregg says, time heals. Let the dirty water flow under the bridge - make some more great music together while you're both still able!

Its interesting that he says his band can learn songs quickly, leading to the obvious question: Why has he played the same setlist with only a few minor changes for years and years?

Heading to a casino near you - the Allman Brothers Band featuring Gregg Allman and
Dickey Betts.....wsg Foghat. Oh, you know it's coming.

That is the softest sentiment I have heard since The Split by Gregg and that is room for soft optimism. A Helm / Robertson, McCartney / Lennon, Fogerty / Fogerty too late type ending is just a bad mark in a future Wikepedia entry. That will be the shame if it doesn't happen. For them mostly. Past failure at reaching out may be partly due to the lack of depth in the offer. I don't remember any talk of this humility so this is a start. Maybe if GA hooked up with Dickey once in a decade or so now he might have some setlist fodder

😛 there are so many different responses to this topic .
I' d like to see it happen ... But it won't
Great read Alpaul Thanks for sharing
Ps loved your book

sounds from this interview like things weren't all that peachy in the Allman Bros camp for awhile...sitting around smoking a doobie with no real leader, wasting time. I wonder how the rest of the band felt. I figure Derek was probably like minded on things. Interesting article and its nice to hear he'll be touring everywhere for some time.

Oh, FFS with these guys sometimes. Pick up the phone, then! 😛
