@allmanfan21 Here is a fine solo from Clapton in the middle of this version of Layla I think it very good. The notes just flow and the note selection is excellent to my ears.

I agree with most of the guitarists mentioned but there's a name missing. Magic Sam. If you've not heard of him, check out West Side Soul.

Anyone heard of the singer guitarist Smokey Hormel?

Friend saw him in Brooklyn New York. He plays every Wednesday night at a small club there. I'd never heard of Smokey Hormel other than noticing he was on one of Norm's Guitars videos.

Here is Smokey Hormel!!

@stephen I like him too. I was not familiar with Smoky Hormel until last weekend.

I read later last night Smokey's great grandfather was the founder of Hormel Meat Packing Co.

I can't say Eddie Shaver was one of my favorites but Eddie's main road guitar has a strong Allman Brothers Band connection.

It's a 1955 Fender Stratocaster and about 1970 Gregg Allman owned it and traded it to Dickey Betts for an old automobile Dickey owned. I understand Dickey was to use it in the studio for rhythm tracks but not sure he ever did.

A few years after Dickey got aquatinted with Billy Joe Shaver who wrote a lot of songs for Waylon Jennings and Dickey recorded Sweet Mama and played I've Been To Georgia On A Fast Train, Billy Joe asked Dickey to show his son some things on the guitar. This led to Dickey giving Eddie Shaver the 1955 Strat and a Gibson ES-335 which belonged to Duane Allman.

Eddie Shaver took to the Strat but didnt play the ES-335 much. Eddie died in 2000 of a drug overdose and Dickey attended the funeral.

Last I read, Billy Joe gave the Strat and ES-335 to Willie Nelson who keeps them in a big safe at his home.

Here is Eddie Shaver with Gregg's old 1955 Strat he traded to Dickey for an old car.
