Nice article about Eddie in today's Birmingham News:

https://www.al.com/life/2025/07/alabama-music-legend-and-troubled-genius-gets-another-look.html

If you happen to be in the 'Shoals area tonight - the film will be shown at 7:00 at Florence's Shoals Theater.  I'm tempted to jump in my car right now and head that way but I've got some other serious fish that need fryin'.

I've been trying to run down a copy (DVD/VHS - streaming?) since 2007 to no avail.  Not like Superman or Jurassic Park, where you can go down to the local Bijou and buy a ticket.  If you want to see it you'll have to find it.  Somehow. I had some communication going with one of the producers a while back.  Seems like they were sitting on the film because Eddie's mother wasn't entirely thrilled with it.  Described as a prequel to the Muscle Shoals doc' a few years ago (WHY wasn't Eddie more prominent in that one?  Why was Bono all over it????).  Not gonna win an Oscar or anything but I'd love to see it.

Eddie was always an underappreciated player. Held in esteem by Captain Skipper, Skip did a remaster of an Eddie show, there really isn't much of his live music out in "bootleg land."

Hinton. One of the most criminally under appreciated songs in DOWN IN TEXAS.

Here's a good one written by Eddie and recorded several years back by CRS. This version features Scott Boyer on vocals.

@martind28 My favorite version of that Eddie Hinton song - including Eddie's own!  Scott Boyer ... man!  I was actually present when this was recorded (Gadsden, AL - Boogie MCain's).

Hey Rusty - That sounds great. Any details you can share from the Gadsden recording? I've got that CD but no longer have a working CD player at the the house. There are some audio / videos on the net. Lot of talent in that band...some of our favs. Thx.

@martind28 The Capricorn Rhythm Section (Scott Boyer, Tommy Talton, Johnny Sandlin, Bill Stewart and Paul Horsnsby with Leroy Parnell) played two shows (Friday and Saturday nights) as part of (pretty sure) one of the Jam For Duane events in Gadsden, AL.  I currently do not remember the exact year but it's probably on your CD.  I think the Friday night show was recorded for the CD.  I wouldn't be surprised if a take or two from the Saturday show wasn't also used.  Maybe Paul or Bill could say for sure - since Johnny, Scott and Tommy are now gone.  It was an exceptional weekend of music!  The CRS performance preserved forever on tape and CD!

I don't know if Leroy was an "official" member of the band or if he just sat in.  Seems like he performed with them whenever I saw them ... except for the show at the Harley Davidson dealership near Anniston, Al.  Tim Boykin, Birmingham, Al player sat in for that show (which also featured Jimmy Hall).

Here's Tim sitting in with the Eric Essex jazz band during a BB King tribute show.  He can play anything - any style!
