Duane Betts & Palmetto Motel 4/26/2026 State College, PA
Saw Duane Betts and Palmetto Motel last night at the State Theater in State College, PA. It was a great show, if sadly a bit poorly attended. I enjoyed the new songs he played from his album I think he said is coming out on June 12th and the band itself was plenty good. During the song Oh Louisiana, which I think Pedro mentioned was a Chuck Berry song, Johnny Stachela played slide guitar with a wah wah pedal and it was the funkiest sound. A very cool show last night; I was glad I was able to catch it. And hey - I saw Back Where It All Begins for the first time live since 1999, so there's that.
Anyway, here's the In Memory Of Elizabeth Reed from last night that I managed to capture:
I had heard that too, and was surprised when I saw Pedro, but I believe the keyboard player is new, I'm not sure if the drummer is or not
I count 4-5 songs that I believe are new on that setlist
So grateful that there are artists in this ecosystem who keep writing and touring
@islalala you said it. I know the songs Down To Houston, Best Wishes and Heartache are from the upcoming album. Here's a neat one though; Pedro introduced the song Oh Louisiana as a Chuck Berry song and an odd Chuck Berry song because apparently Chuck played wah wah pedal on that song. I had never heard it myself. But it was neat to hear Johnny Stachela playing slide guitar with a wah wah pedal; very swampy and funky.
I truly enjoyed this show and would recommend them to anyone curious.
