Devon Allman's Blues Summit

Last night I had a chance to go see Devon Allman’s Blues Summit. A different show than Allman Betts show I’d seen a year ago. Some of the same band members – Devon, John Ginty (keys), and John Lum (drums). But then throw in Jimmy Hall (vocals & harmonica), Larry McCray (guitar & vocals), Sierra Green (vocals), Jason Stokes (guitar), and a bass player & conga / sax player I didn’t recognize, and you have a pretty powerful band. As the band name indicates, the songs were heavily tilted bluesy, but there were a few others such as Melissa & Keep On Smiling.
I thought the band was really really good. Devon shared the solos equally amongst all 3 guitar players & Ginty on organ. There were a lot of harmonica fills by Jimmy, and Jimmy keeps bringing it through the years – great vocalist & performer. Vocals were also spread equally between Devon, Jimmy, Larry, & Sierra. For me the highlight of the night might be Sierra Green singing Please Call Home.
The band headed up north after last night & then will head out west. If you have a chance, go see them. Well worth it. I don’t see a lot of concerts these days, but this was a good one to catch.

Thanks for the sterling review!! Looking forward to this. I already have a ticket for September 9th in Santa Fe, New Mexico. I see Tab Benoit the following night @ the same Santa Fe venue, The Lensic.

I was wondering where Ginty was. Have tix to see Duane and the Motel end of Aug and see he has a new keys player Max Butler. Then preceeded to check the Devon band.

Excellent review! Thank you!

I caught this show tonight (9/9/25) at The Lensic in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Very enjoyable show with tons of variety. Highlights: Just an OFF THE CHARTS Little Wing. Devon said, "I'm going to pay tribute to my Uncle and do the Derek and The Dominoes version." Man, did he ever nail it! Fortunately I caught that one on video. I also caught the most DYNAMITE Miss Sierra Green doing both of her solo vocal spots in this show: Real Love and Please Call Home. Man, she is a powerhouse, and I'm surprised I had never heard of her until Devon took her out on tour. Also got a tune featuring Larry McCray and Jimmy Hall jamming together. Give me some time to get this stuff onto YouTube. I'm at a Best Western where the internet connection is just not working (!!$$#$#$!!). The only way I'm posting here is off the mobile hot spot on my cell. But that's not fast enough to be uploading video to YouTube. Next week when I get home from my one week road trip, I'll have plenty of video for you. Tab Benoit, same venue, Wednesday 9/10!!
