I had an incredible 17 hour trip to NYC that enabled me to be there that night. I missed some other epic moments of the ABB (too young for anything before 1989,and missed the last show), but I consider myself extremely fortunate to have to have been there 3/25/01 and 3/19/09 to see Chuck Leavell and Eric Clapton play extended time with the ABB at the Beacon theater. Those rank as my two favorite Beacon shows from going 10 years to NYC and two of my all-time favorite ABB live experiences.

I love the back story and commentary from the band.

Alan, thanks for posting. Hard to believe 8 years have passed already. Will never forget clearing the slate each night to watch Moogis. We had everything setup in the basement and would rock out each night while blogging with everyone on this site. Such a wonderful time, always though Butch never got enough credit.

Anyway, I've always loved Clapton's music. To think of how many influential groups he's been apart of is mind boggling, and to hear the Allmans bring these songs back to life with him is one of the highlights of my musical experiences.

Thanks again, and it's always a pleasure to be a part of this community.

With all of the Clapton talk I needed to click on the 3-19-09 link that Alan provided for us . Wow was that special ! I was lucky to hold tickets for that evening and my memory is Eric's guitar being brought to the stage during the set break . For those of us who knew what would be happening in the 2nd set, that initial glimpse of Eric Clapton's guitar created a unique buzz throughout The Beacon.
The length and substance to his guest appearance that evening was the cherry on the cake. The 2009 Beacon run was unique and special but the Eric Clapton guest slots on March 19th and 20th still gives me the chills .

Were 10,000 seats really priced at $500 each?

In Atlanta, the most expensive rock concert ever (by a wide margin) was McCartney's last stop in 2015. He played Philips arena and it was $275/ticket (or more) for every ticket in the lower level....that might have included TM surcharges. I think it was $175 for the worst seat in the house. He sold them all.

I was lucky enough to be in the house with my son 3/20/09 Eric's second night in town. The Beacon needed extensive repair after the show cuz they blew the roof off the place that night.

No, of course not. And they all got cheaper on second night... someone made the smart observation in other thread that the game has changed a lot and younger people wait and see what happens... which I've also taken to doing a lot... of course it can go up, too..

The Clapton beacon shows were really special.

the only thing that eased my pain of not getting in to the 3/20 show was going to the 3/26 show with no guests. I think I listen to the 3/20 instant live more than any other ABB show besides the fillmore A&R studios and the Play All Night release.

They were great shows. I was there both nights (as were a few others from here) and my only "complaint" is that the Clapton songs were pretty much the same both nights. Not a huge deal but I was kind of hoping for a few deeper cuts on the second night.

Sure can't bitch about it. Was a wonderful weekend!

Was fortunate to be up in NYC for the Friday and sat shows that week end.. the 2 nw set on Friday is probably the most memorable set of music I was able to enjoy first hand , have the Moogis copy, thanks Butch.....in so many years, still love Liz Reed that night,, chilling stuff, and wow where does the time go!!

I'm recently bought the 2009 Beacon box. It's in the mail and should be in my hands Monday!
