any hockey fans?

this is my brother Lou-
he's being inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame

very cool, congratulations.
I dont' think anyone will ever forget the 80 Olympics - I know I won't

great story. what an incredible leap of faith going to russia to learn…congratulations to your brother and your family. it's an honor very few get to experience.

Good for him, USA hockey has come a long way in the decades after the miracle on ice.

Very cool, congrats to your bro and family.

Thanks everyone..yeah, Lou 's first love has always been hockey..when he was a kid, I don't think a day older than 15 (at 6 ft something, he looked a man already) he was the Vice President of Greater NYC Ice Hockey, which was NY Hockey's version of little league
So cute, some of the baby boys were skating b 4 they could walk ( they called them mosquitoes )
I remember sitting at the dais table with the New York Rangers one year, at one of the leagues awards dinners..
Lou sat me next to Boom Boom Jeffryon (sp?) who was my fav, he was always a cool older Bro.
"The Cat" Emile Francis gave Lou his first big break. In MN The holy trinity of American Hockey, isn't it MN, MI & WI?
Kevin and I helped move him to Austin , MN that year His first professional coaching job.
Lou had worked as an usher at the garden paying his way through college, (his degree is as a Master Chef , oh can he cook and bake!) so he'd never miss a game, and could rub shoulders with the Hockey players
An injury (broken his arm in 3 places playing street hockey ) kept him from playing pro, but Emille would have him goalie at Ranger's practices (he'd sit me behind the glass and tell me be a good little girl and keep your mouth shut and I would (believe it or no ) He's 10 years my senior.
He served in the Army during Nam, stationed in Germany. The Marines had wanted him, but an Army General stole him away, after Lou prepared a meal for him at the old barracks in BKLYN, I want to say Fort Hamilton. It was during the draft .
I remember hearing women in the bldg. whispering while my Mom and I cired as he left in his fatigues, head shaved, they whispered "we'll never see him again" I was too young to talk back, I should have, but cried even harder. My first heartbreak.
Fort Hamilton, just down the Belt Parkway from the old Coney Island rink, where he spent every middle of the night for years. 3 AM the alarm would go off, and his day began, even before he could drive , he'd ride the buses and trains to get there. Such a commitment for so young man.
His little Sister Ca adored him.
Lou was the scout for the miracle on ice team,he was Herb Brooks assistant coach..We watched on tv, would see him in the stands with a walkie talkie . Not to be arrogant, but we were so sure they would win...
When his '84 team finished poorly, he was interviewed I think it was Nightline, was asked how he was dealing with the "tragedy" .
We were so proud as a family, when he turned to the interviewer and corrected him, that they were talking sports, sports is a game.
Tragedy was losing a loved one, our cousin, the baby of the entire extended family, Tommy-boy , had passed of cancer the night before, (at Sloan Kettering ) Tommy was only 17 years old 🙁 Lou then sent condolences on the air, to our Uncle Billy and Aunt Lorraine King in Massapequa . Thank God Nana King wasnt watching, we never had the heart to tell her Tommy was gone home.
The rest of the King family (our BIG Irish side of the family ) all over New York State roared! our phone rang off the hook, we were all so proud of Lou .
Lou recently lost his own son, Greg, my sweet nephew who I only got to meet once. Lou sent the boys to FLA, oh, years ago.
I took my younger daughter, Heather and Lou's boys to Disney, Sea World, to the beach, where they all boogy-boarded in the surf (first beach they ever saw!) like old pros
We had us a big time..
the King family has known many a heartbreak. I wish it wasn't so.
oh, funny, one day I was talking to Lou on phone, he had been offered the woman's USA team.
I wont go into detail about what he had to say about that, but he wouldnt coach the women
My younger daughter was playing high school basketball, Heather was the team "Sister"
I begged Lou to take the job, and he answered God help me if he catches his niece in a gym playing basketball lol Men.... sheesh
USA women won the gold that year lol..I tried to tell him...
It was around the time girls were promised equal rights for scholarships playing sports..Times were changing
Not so funny at the time. When I was 16, 17 (driving my 64 thunderbird to the city) Id be at an Allman Brother concert, in Central Park or similar venue.. turn around, and see 2 or 3 BIG hockey players standing guard He actually would assign players to watch over me. My big Bro
Thanks again for listening to me ramble on ..Merry Christmas everyone, God bless..
