Allman Brothers Band - The Sky Is Crying (Live 1975)

in Lakeland, FL / Dec 31st, 1975

Don't know what to think of that. Doesn't sound rehearsed but on the fly.
Grinderswitch was the opening act according to a poster.
The very strange and unorthodox guitar parts and the slide may not be Dickey. Sounds more like another player than what Dickey would play.
But it was fun to listen to.
I listened to an April 1976 show last night and they played Don't Keep Me Wondering as the second song in the set but Dickey played lead not slide. No slide on it. That was a revelation because I use to think that was a song they stopped doing when Duane died until Warren Haynes joined.

Yes, the guitar players. I tried googling it to find out who they were without much luck, but I did see that song was played at Duane's funeral which might explain the slides and all the Duane licks, especially more at the front of the song. Maybe a guest?

Although not introduced the slide player is Dru Lombar of Grinderswitch.
"Is that a real poncho or is that a Sears poncho?"

@oldcoot That makes sense. Grinderswitch was the opening act and I remember the album they had on Capricorn in the mid 70's. I got it and its probably in my vinyl copy box.
I saw three 1975 Win, Loose or Draw shows and one in 1976 and there wasn't any slide guitar in the Allman Brothers Band sets at the shows I saw.
Dickey played lead guitar on Statesboro Blues. Also at the shows I saw, they played a song on Dickey's solo album Highway Call titled Long Time Gone. Chuck Leavell sang the second verse instead of Dickey at my four shows and Chuck would change " Georgia" to the state they were in. " I'm on my way back to New Jersey want you give me a ride?" for example.

@oldcoot Here it is from 1975. Chuck sings second verse and sings " I'm on my way back to Alabama" instead of Georgia.
Butch thought this song, Rambling Man and several others did not fit the original focus of the Allman Brothers and did not like playing them. And he indicated on his blog about 2003 Dickey put what he wanted in the set lists without asking anyone. It was play it or Dickey would throw a fit!! Kick stuff, throw stuff and storm out.
Anyway here it is live on a Win, Loose and Draw tour show. BTW the crowd would dance and boogie to this song at the shows I attended. That must have gotten Butchy's goat:) he he.
A different 1975 show.
