Lammie, you are raising your little angel right 😉
Hey Marley...I was out for a bite with my wife and son. My son(7) was playing the trivia game and yells"Dad, I got the first one right, come look." The answer: The Allman Brothers Band!
Hey, anyone in the Brooklyn, New York area?? Email me...we'll get soem good music conversation going.Im in the middle of reading the 'Midnight Riders' bio..I think it's pretty good.
By the by, there was a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame category on Jeopardy! today. One of the questions ($600, I think) was about The Band. Perhaps even cooler, the $1000 question mentioned Bill Graham (as a non-performing inductee to the RnRHoF). T-minus about 2 1/2 hours to Mule now...gonna get there eventually. 😉
Hey Goliath, I really dig the Atlanta Rhythm Section, Bro. At one point in time they were so popular that they did a show at Grant Field (the Georgia Tech football stadium, for those of y'all not from Hot 'Lanta), and I remember there being a ton of people there.
Unfortunately, they don't pack 'em in like they used to. The last time I saw them a few years back, they played in the back parking lot of a bar here in Louisville, in front of maybe 150 people. Their "stage" was one of those flatbed trailer deals. But still, they played pretty well. Not exactly sure how many original members were left at that point.
Speaking of which, Molly Hatchet is playing a free show here as part of the Kentucky Derby Festival, and I seem to recall someone telling me that there are no original members left! Might not be worth it, even for free.
Another question for Brother Goliath. Wasn't the Great Southeast Music Hall where the Sex Pistols played their first show in America? Seems like I remember reading that somewhere once.
So, all this talk about David Bromberg makes me want to hear some...David Bromberg! 🙂 Can someone recommend a good album to pick up for the uninitiated? All these Peachers can't be wrong.
Well, I'm off to see B.B. King at the Palace Theater very shortly, and then the Derby Festival officially kicks off tomorrow night with Thunder Over Louisville, a massive (the largest in America, they claim) fireworks orgy down by the river. Last year, the estimated crowd was 800,000!!! 😮 Yikes. Luckily, I only live about eight blocks away, so I get to walk and miss the (equally) massive traffic jam that comes immediately after Thunder.
Y'all have a great weekend. Love all the music talk the last couple of days.
Hey Corn Dog, where you at?

Afternoon sweet family,

Take care and know that you are loved,

Since there seems to be a lot of interest in David Bromberg today, I'll offer up a B&P of the David Bromberg Band from St. John's U. in Collegeville, MN, 4/16/75 (courtesy of Peachnutt). It's one disc.....I'll take a few.....if you don't hear back from me, better luck next time.
Thanks for posting in such amazingly rapid succession, Sheep and Tom- it allows me to use this post to proudly say that this post is #4000 on this Guest Book. And much of the most interesting stuff has come in these last couple of days. Thanks again to Lana and Rowland, and to everyone in the community as well for making this The Place to Be on the web. Peace. --Marley
Hello from Lake Tahoe. Saw Derek here last night. His band is tighter than ever, great set, though short. Great show, nice venue at the Hyatt North Shore. Got to meet and hang out with NV Peachead (Allen). Great guy! Robben Ford was solid, but lacked the emotional power of Derek. Was hoping the two of them would jam, but didn't happen. Maybe heading to Reno tonight to catch John Hiatt solo. Being out of work does have its perks!!!
Ugh, that link isn't working for some reason. But among other interesting things, it says the American U CD has already turned a profit based on its Beacon sales, which I think is fabulous. --Marley
Man David, I was at Van’s show that night. Cramed shoulder-to-shoulder, toe-to-toe with everyone else at the foot of the stage. We could have been standing next to each other. His album Wavelength was out then I think. You are right, the best show there, would love to get a copy of that one!
And ARS, what a band, I still have all 3 of those albums, Third Annual Pipe Dream was great. Came out my senior year in high school, love Angel, Doraville, and Blues in Maude’s Flat (something like that). What a history with that band, Joe South, The Candymen, Classics IV. You gotta love the song Stormy. Their drummer, Robert Nix, produced an album I was designing, Alias, back in the early 80s. Man, what a character! Saw a lot of things I can’t repead here that went on in the studio!
Wayne,
One of the best shows I ever saw was Van Morrison at the Capri. Saw many great shows at the Moonshadow, including Delbert and Randy Newman. Another Mother Further was the name of that Mothers Finest album. Baby Jean and them stole the show at the Champagne Jam every year. They were a great band. Still are I bet. The Wizard is a remarkable bassist. Mickey's Monkee was another one of their hits. Thank You For The Love, another. I mean they could flat out rock. Was listening to another Atlanta band last night, Atlanta Rhythm Sections first album, and for 1971, it was some advanced music. Their guitarist, Barry Bailey, is incredible. Later on they had some pop hits, but the first 3 albums they put out were just awesome. These are very rare, Atlanta Rhythm Section (1st Album wth Rodney Justo, Back Up Against The Wall (2nd album), and, one of my favorite titles of all time, Third Annual Pipe Dream. If ya see any of these, grab em. The 1st album (CD) I found as a Japanese import for 35 bucks...EAPFP
Deb, we love you.
Guys, I gotta tell ya, I'm almost nervous about tonight's show- I never saw Zeppelin, so I don't know what to expect. It sounds like the Mule is just CRUSHING everything out there. If the skills of Jimmy Page and Robert Plant were combined into one person, you'd have Warren.
Here's some cool info, courtesy of Linkenmeister Eliot: www.rockymountainnews.com/drmn/music/article/0,1299,DRMN_54_1091443,00.html Some good news about Live at American University. 🙂
Scotty, you'll have your Mule update tonight, tomorrow at the latest (but probably tonight), courtesy of me. You don't mind, do you?
Preparing my ass for a kicking as we speak. Peace. --Marley
Good Afternoon Folks,
Hope everyone is having a great day. I've been searching high and low for a Divid Bromberg tape that I had, and can't seem to find it. It was from " My Fathers Place", I think, from the mid 70's. I think I only attended one show at that venue, and can't seem to remember who that was either. Bromberg?, Kingfish? or N.R.P.S. Damn, some things stand out, and others are a real blur. I wonder what that is due to.?
My thanks to Randy Z. for that great Warren Haynes show 3-20-02. Man, hearing Warren sing Soulshine puts goosebumps on my goosebumps. Have a great weekend everybody...Peace,...Neil.
Damn.....it's just so much fun to read all the communications from all of you/us.
This is the best spot on the damn planet!!:)
Bless all you folks.....hope it's as beautiful everywhere as it is up here in NY today:D
Man we is blessed.... My big hug to all:)

Speaking of Sean O'Rourke, he's got a web-site some of you may want to check out. It's mostly a resume-style site, but in the Audio section there are clips of him playing with DTB and Mike Stern, live Peacemakers, and some clips from ARU's unreleased album recorded in 1998 or 1999 (a/k/a "The Shelved Recordings"). Anyway click here if you're interested.
Drew
Mother's Finest is still around, and I think they are from Atlanta. Not sure I've ever heard them. But former Aquarium Rescue Unitarian, Peacemaker, and DTB-substitute drummer Sean O'Rourke has drummed for Mother's Finest quite a few times in the last few years. I always got the impression that it was to sub for their usual drummer, but it's been rather frequent -- maybe their regular drummer has some health issues (??).
Sean is a fantastic drummer. Definitely worth checking him out some time.
Hey Jack,
That is the same, awesome band. Baby Jean Kennedy (I think) was the lead singer’s name and Wizzard played a mean, ploppy bass. I believe their first album was called Another Futher Muther or something like that. Their hit off of it was “I Don’t Know What I Been Told, Niggarz Can’t Sing Rock & Roll.”
By the way, I mailed your package the other with a few added goodies for you to listen too. Hope your dad is doing well.
A buddy of mine who I have been to Jazzfest with a few times with called me last night to tell me about a new fest in NO called( he thinks) Quarterfest.Or something similar...Anybody here know anything about this one, Jazzfest is a lot of fun but it has grown to be way too many people for us and he was told this new one is similar to Jazzfest of 10-12 years ago.
On a completely different note,I once saw a band called Mother's Finest open for the Who in about '75 or '76.Totally out of place musically for a Who crowd and seems to me there were 3 singers plus a backup band, from Atlanta?Same group mentioned here today?
The good ’ol days for sure David. Remember opening week at Alex Cooley’s Capri Theatre? Waylon Jennings, Mother Finest, Santana and the Dixie Dregs. What a great week that was, lived 2 blocks from there in Buckhead.
Did you ever see Crack The Sky at the Music Hall? Never had heard of them until that night. Incredible version of I Am The Walrus they did that night.
Some other cool places back then in Atlanta where The Harvest Moon Saloon, Hedgins and Moonshadow?(I think that was the name, saw Sea Level, BHTL, saw lots of great bands there). Heck, I am starting to feel 22 all over again, time to cut the music up!
