Hey Goliath, I really dig the Atlanta Rhythm Section, Bro. At one point in time they were so popular that they did a show at Grant Field (the Georgia Tech football stadium, for those of y'all not from Hot 'Lanta), and I remember there being a ton of people there.
Unfortunately, they don't pack 'em in like they used to. The last time I saw them a few years back, they played in the back parking lot of a bar here in Louisville, in front of maybe 150 people. Their "stage" was one of those flatbed trailer deals. But still, they played pretty well. Not exactly sure how many original members were left at that point.
Speaking of which, Molly Hatchet is playing a free show here as part of the Kentucky Derby Festival, and I seem to recall someone telling me that there are no original members left! Might not be worth it, even for free.
Another question for Brother Goliath. Wasn't the Great Southeast Music Hall where the Sex Pistols played their first show in America? Seems like I remember reading that somewhere once.
So, all this talk about David Bromberg makes me want to hear some...David Bromberg! 🙂 Can someone recommend a good album to pick up for the uninitiated? All these Peachers can't be wrong.
Well, I'm off to see B.B. King at the Palace Theater very shortly, and then the Derby Festival officially kicks off tomorrow night with Thunder Over Louisville, a massive (the largest in America, they claim) fireworks orgy down by the river. Last year, the estimated crowd was 800,000!!! 😮 Yikes. Luckily, I only live about eight blocks away, so I get to walk and miss the (equally) massive traffic jam that comes immediately after Thunder.
Y'all have a great weekend. Love all the music talk the last couple of days.
Hey Corn Dog, where you at?
