I saw a post sometime back about Alan Lomax's passing. For those not hip to him he went around (starting during the depression), and I do mean around, the country and eventually the world collecting field recordings of regional/indigenous music. If your library has some of his field recordings on cd I'd recommend checking them out cause' they are the REAL S**T!! In todays world of proliferating Walmart and McDonalds, regionalism at least in the US, is slowly fading. Fear not cause' Lomax was able to capture and preserve this rich musical heritage for all to hear on wax. From Parchman (sp?) Farm prison chants to South Georgia Island fifes and drums to Appalchian String Band Music. That stuff blows me away. You can hear and feel the music spirit in these recordings. Check it out!!

Good Sunday to everyone! Chris, great review of Friday night's show at the Double Door Inn with Jerry Eubanks and Rick Willis playing with Part Time Blues Band......Just wanted to let the ones of you coming to the Charlotte ABB show that if you want some place to go after the show to continue hearing good music and to think that you are still hearing ABB(they really are that good!), Part Time will be playing at Puckett's Farm Equipment that night. It's a real cool bar not too far from the amphitheater. Rusty Barkley IS the best guitarist in NC and one of the best in the Southeast.

Tori also recently gave away on the Forum a stack of shows on discs as part of "cleaning house". Very cool to see the sharing of music like that.

Mornin All Chuggin some coffee and enjoyin a Duane era show this mornin. I am purusing thru "The Complete Allman Brothers Band Discography" by Dean Reynolds. Its really an excellent job in organising all the recorded music of the ABB and has really alot of info and the photos are excellent. If ya want to get a copy or check it out go to abbbook@yahoo.com. Many of you know Deano already from the GB but some of the new folk may not know this excellent resource is available.

Tori W.,.....Thankyou so much for all the tapes. I'm amazed that you would give up all those shows. 250 tapes in all. Talk about hitting the jackpot, WOW. I guess i'll be a busy, as well as a happy camper for quite a while. I'll have to eventually make a list, and offer some of these shows to the GB family. Thankyou, Thankyou, Thankyou.....Neil

Ya'll keep on keepin' on! The road goes ever on, we all get older and lots of water goes under the bridge. But the music lives on! Thanks ABB for all your love you give us all, 'cause we know you love what you do, and music like art is not what one does, but what one IS!

Charlesinator, Sounds like a good time last night in Charlotte. Carol Bluefox says it rocked her soul too. Wished I could have been there. Hot here in GA, the Dog Days, as they say. Whew. Think I'll have a cold beer, inside in the AC, and play some Duane. I listened to that Magic Bag show again today, yowza. DB&GS was tearing it up that night. Nice to have so much good music going on in our family. EAPFP

Hey Folks, Hope all are having a great day. Gonna run out in a little bit and pick up the new Gregg Allman disc. Listening to some old Lee Michaels, and that guy could sure sing and play some wicked keys. I was a huge fan of his some thirty years ago. Caught him in Central Park around 1971, and from what I can remenber, enjoyed it quite a bit. When he sings the real high notes, he kinda reminds me of Doug Gray. Anyway, just wanted to say hello to everyone. Have a great night folks...Peace,...Neil

Finally got to go to Macon after 30 years! Thanks to everyone who gave me directions to Duane and BO's graves. For those who have been to Rose Hill it was like the graves are on a small stage overlooking that small green valley. Saw Capricorn's old office, went to the H and H for breakfast, and saw Liz Reed's tombstone near the railroad tracks. No Hippie Crash Pad this trip maybe next time. Back in the day anything that came out on Capricorn I would buy. I play drums and I remember telling my mother that when I got out of High School that I wanted to move to Macon to get in a band. She was not pleased! Ha Ha! Anyway for those who haven't made the trek it's highly recommended.

Good morning GB!!! I have always enjoyed all the posts and reviews here. I plan to catch the ABB in Charlotte and am trying to work out a road trip to B-ham. So I'm going to have to wait until then to see them for myself. I would love to travel around and see them like some of y'all, but family responsibilities and lack of funds kind of crimp my style. Let me tell you it's hell being po'. Anyway I like to tell y'all about a show I saw last night in Charlotte at the Double Door. The Partime Blues Band with Jerry Eubanks (former MTB) and Rick Willis. Folks it was great! It may not have been in an arena or shed and the attendance was about par for the course in this musical wasteland that is Charlotte, N.C., but it was excellent none the less. Rusty Barkley is friend of mine. So I'm a little hesitant about tooting his horn here on the ABB's GB. But he is one of the best pickers bar none IMHO. Those of you who plan to attend the ABB in CLT in Aug. or find yourself in the CLT area, would do well to check out the Parttime Blues Bland. I guarantee. The Partime Boys were on fire last night bolstered by the presence of Jerry Eubanks and Rick Willis. Jerry has lost none of his chops on sax as well as flute. And this guy Rick Willis is a very fine player in the Toy Caldwell and Charlie Daniels mode. He is blessed with an excellent stage presence. Uncle Grubb, keyboard player for the Parttimers, turned in his best performance. Shades of one Mr. Leavel. And Rusty's playing was what we refer to the epitome of hittin'-the-note. The music of the ABB was very prevalent throughout. One of the best examples being a One Way Out>Zep Tune tease (I believe How Many More Years)>Some kind of Munsters tease? on keys>then Midnight Rider>One way Out end. Jerry would get the band to bring the tempo and volume down then play a beautiful solo. Rick Willis playing a beautiful cherry red Les Paul created some very tasty runs. And Rusty Barkley whether on slide, blues, country or rock just tearing the stings off his piece meal strat or a nice 62 Les Paul Jr. The show was what music is supposed to be about. I realize some may say that nobody can play Brothers music better than the ABB. But I would say the music of the Allmans really isn't just "their" music. It is our music. There isn't one guitar player today from the south that isn't influenced by Brother Duane or Brother Dickey in some way shape or form. I certainly am no theological/philosophical expert on the afterlife. I'm not an expert on anything just ask my wife, but I feel in my heart that while Brother Duane may be looking down on the Gregg, Butch and Jaimoe vs. Dickey situation with a broken heart, I feel that he probably is getting a kick that his music is being played so well by the Parttime Blues Band and bands all over the south, the nation and the world. I'd like to thank Lana and Rowland for allowing me and others this space to pontificate. I want to thank y'all for listening. And may God bless each and every one of you. Peace. :):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):) "I got my Mojo working, but it just don't work on you." Muddy

Before I laced up the Adidas for my walk this morning (at the 8.5 mile marker and needed a breather) I read in the paper that Alan Lomax died. I'd say he is the grand daddy of tapers and really kick started what we all benefit so richly from today. He would drag equipment that weighed well over a hundred pounds in order to record the likes of Son House, Leadbelly, Guthrie, Muddy Waters etc. so their sounds would not drift off in the wind but remain available for generations. What a labor of love to keep the music alive. Thanks go out today to all our modern day tapers for keeping the music alive for years to come. Now, I've got to get back out on the road again...(Johnny...wanna take it from here?) Y'all have a nice weekend.

Scottyvii - always like it when I see somebody talking about supporting both the ABB and Dickey...you know, yes, it's a shame that they had to move apart from each other, but the "making lemonade out of lemons" aspect is that we all get to hear more music and more musical directions being followed...enough about that, it's all already been said and "resaid". Man it's hot today - I can always tell it's a good idea to stay indoors when I can see the crows out in the yard walking around with their mouths wide open (like a panting dog but without the tongue and fur...) Can't wait for August and my chance for ABB shows to come around... Peace, Jim
