Guitarist Derek Trucks, 23, can handle a heavy load http://www.projo.com/music/content/projo_20030710_derek.5eb6e.html Pretty good article/interview with Derek about the dTb and ABB, etc.

Allman Brothers keep up their act http://www.statenews.com/article.phtml?pk=18142 I think the writer actually has a pretty good point about AWTNM. Even when they're "on" with that one, it's still rather mellow for a concert-opener. Thoughts? Certainly ain't a "Firing Line" > "Hot'Lanta" opener, like we'll be hearing in ATL in a few weeks. 😀 😀 😀

Slight change to the below Tweeter pre-party details. I've been told that the 2pm meeting place is the parking lot of a MCDONALDS NOT A BURGER KING. In any case it's the only fast food joint that's a half mile past the main entrance to Tweeter. Sorry for the confusion. Hey Deb, that was a great show and party 2 years ago. The WP opener is one of my all time memorable concert moments, the hair stands up on my back just thinking about it. Anyone who travels 1500 miles to see the ABB is ACES in my book. It was truly great to meet you. PEACHY PARTY INVITATION!!!!!!!! Hey folks. Kevin Watson (Soulman) and I (Chris Robinson) will be hosting the umpteenth annual Great Woods (Tweeter Center) preshow tailgate party extravaganza this Sunday in the "early arrivals" lot. We'll have multiple BBQ grilles going, an excessive quantity of primo food/drink, ABB tunes, the usual crew of MAABBA (Massachusetts Allman Brothers Band Association) crazies, confirmed new comers, a special "secret" road tripping guest or two from the mid atlantic and a generally peachy vibe that makes everyone in attendance feel like family. We've got a new landmark to look for this year in the form of a 10x10 green & white folding canopy. It's about 8 feet tall and looks like a square, pointy topped, open sided circus tent. Find it and you've found us. Or for those that want the complete experience, we'll be meeting up at 2pm outside the venue and caravaning into the lot to park together. Our 2pm meeting place is the parking lot of a MCDONALDS (not a Burger King) just down the road from Great Woods. Get off the highway, pass the main entrance to Great Woods on your right and the MCDONALDS is about a half mile down on the left. I'm in a sexy Silver Ford minivan and Kevin's in a Blue Toyota pickup. For more details or questions send me a PM, email me at fishy4u@hotmail.com or email Kevin at soulman31@comcast.net. Hope to see you Sunday!

I saw Karl Densons Tiny Universe in a club last night. They might become one of my favorite live bands. They tore the place up. Did about 1:30-1:45 long set. Took about a twenty minute break and came back for about two hours. Hopefully I'll get a copy from one of the tapers. Green Genes, a band from Lexington, Ky opened. A jamgrass type band. They were pretty good. Someone with the band was handing out show CDs. If the CD is any good you might see copies included in my next BnP offer.

I saw that article in Unlimited, does that magazine have any affiliation with Marlboro? That was a great article though, I liked some of the quotes in their from Greg. And the pictures were awesome too. You don't get too many non music related magazines doing articles on the ABB these days, nice to see.

I was thinking the order of Midnight Rider & Statesboro was the other way around in Lansing, but I won't question DIGDAVE. I looked around to see if anyone was taping, but I didn't see anyone doing so. I sure hope this show gets out. It was a good one. The problem is that all of their promotional literature, website, etc. made it clear that recording devices of any kind were not permitted. There were signs around the downtown area and at the entrance stating the same thing. Then right before the band came out, the DJ from the local rock station that was introducing them encouraged people to tape the show. I thought to myself, yeah I'll just run right out to my car, get my gear then wait another hour in line to get in. It would be nice for this area if the festival succeeded, but they need to get more professional about how they operate it if they want people to take it seriously. They are hoping to make a profit this year for the first time in it's 4-year history. I wish them well. :noway:

Merriweather Post Pavillion is bout 20 miles or so from DC.Used to be a righteous place for a show, now it seems to be run by a bunch of gestapo faggots, that all but stick their nose in your cup to see what your drinking.

SpikeDog,...Would that ABB show you attended happen to be the 7/21/71 show? If so, I was at that show, although I was only 14 or 15, but already a fan of the band for about a year. Man, those pictures must be something else bro. Can't wait to see them...Peace,...Neil

This afternoon I was given the summer edition of a nice biker mag called "Unlimited". Great article on the band by a gentleman who "gets it," Anthony DeCurtis. Interviews w/Gregg and Warren, great pictures from the Beacon as well as vintage shots, nice insight as to how and why Layla came to be. Quite refreshing.

I'm with you gals! The thought of a stash of never before seen photos of the original band made the hair on my neck stand up. Let's get those babies in the gallery...STAT!!! Okay, call me dumb, but Merriweather Post is in the D.C. area, right? How 'bout them Braves? :mohawk:

Hey nlitnrogue, you must have the read the Toronto Sun and shook your head in disbelief as I did. I emailed the editor and told them if they send someone to review a show who knows nothing about the damn band, at least give them the straight facts!

Thanks to all of you who are willing to share this years shows with me. Y"ALL ARE THE BEST !!! 😀 😀 😀 Bum, Kevin... hope y'all have a great time........GW is a place that I saw many, many, many ABB shows but the one 2 years ago when I met so many of you is a very special one for me. They opened the show with Whipping Post...a night I will never forget. I remember last year, John (peachmaniac) called me from the pre-party and I got to talk to a few of you. Wishing I could there with all of you but I will be there in spirit. Say hi to Elisha for me..............have a PEACHY time 😀

From The ABB Listserve: I spoke to someone last night who works at Merriweather and she said "At the beginning of the season this year they said it was the last year for this venue. Now things are up in the air." This is our chance to save this wonderful venue. Granted it's old but they still pull a lot of great bands, The Allman Brothers, Phil Lesh & Friends, The Dead, Widespread Panic. Not to take anything away from Nissan Pavillion but in my opinion Merriweather is the better of the 2, not only is it closer, to my house anyway but the sound is richer, fuller. Just listen to the tapes from any bands at this venue and you'll know what I'm talking about. Sending a letter is better than an email. With a letter they have something in their hand with a return address. The more people who get behind this the more likely it can be saved. I'll post this message the the Allman list and Emule. If anyone is on Widespread or the dead list it would be greatly appriciated to have this email posted to their lists. Below is the address and fax # to send letters. Fax: 410-730-9085 Address: Merriweather Post Pavilion P.O. Box 1112, Columbia, MD 21044 I'll be sending my letter off Monday. Gary Bringman
