Just going back over the posts from the last few days. The following is from Butch.
"Bushes number one campiagn tactic is to talk about how we are in danger from terrorist attacks (compare the number of people killed by terrorists with the number of people killed on the highways each day and see where our real danger lies. Our fear of terrorism is way out of line with the reality) and that he can keep us safe while Kerry cannot. "
I think where my thinking differs from Butch's and those who use that logic, is that comparing car accidents with terror attacks is not a comparison at all. People killed in car accidents are just that...accidents. People killed in terrorists attacks is first degree murder, it is premeditated. 3,000 people are not killed in one shot in a car accident. To say our fear of terrorism is way out of touch with reality is what got us into trouble the first time. We don't have enough respect for the deviance and tenacity of our foe. Many in law enforcement have been trying to tell the government for years just how serious the problem is, but people didn't want to hear about it, whether republican or democrat. We are in danger of another terrorist attack, it is fact. This is not a fear tactic, nor am I afraid of another terrorist attack. I lived three blocks from the WTC on 9/11, and lost more people than I can count. It was no accident that brought down those towers. It is just a matter of time that this will happen again, no matter who is in office. That is the real problem with Americans, we have a short memory. In 1993, we thought it was a fluke that some psycho drove a truck into the WTC. In 1998, our embassies were bombed in Kenya, and in 2000 the USS Cole was bombed. And everytime, fat, happy, Americans with their wallets and stomachs full couldn't have given a flying crap. Our enemy is patient, and knows we have short memories, they will be back...no matter who is president. There is no comparison between car accidents and first degree murder. You're logic is flawed.

Way to go, Randy and all involved! :clapping:
I remembered a pretty neat moment from the Jimmy show. It was at the set break and Chris the Charlesinator and I step outside, for whatever reason, and we are having a great conversation and turn around and Greg Potter is sitting there and he joins in, talking about how great the ABB/Skynyrd tour was for the band, among other things, and Chris walks back inside, Greg and I continue talking and are headed in when we see Jack sitting there. Jack is a cool guy and had Greg and me in stitches in no time, and then out walks Bill Ector. Jack is telling Bill how he expects him to play in the next set, and Bill starts stuttering about having no guitar with him, etc...and Jack says, well, I am just going to call you to the stage, hand the guitar to you and walk off....Mr Ector can correct me if I am wrong, but I thought I saw pure fear in his eyes for just a fleeting instance...although I have a feeling he could have pulled it off almost as easily as Brent handled that very situation...:D
PS Rick T had the congas rocking at the jam. Sorry I missed Johnny Sandlin too.

Posted my Jam comments on the Forum, but I did want to put up some thank-you's here.
First and foremost, a thank you to Brent Sibley, a dear friend I met through this site. Brent and his friends have been honoring Duane's legacy in late October for 20 years now.
A BIG thank you to Bobby Welch and the staff at the Cultural Arts Center for their financial support, including a first-class sound system for 3 days.
Thank you to Angela Sauls at Chestnut Station for trusting me and booking Jimmy and Jack and the Skydogs on Wed.
A HUGE thank-you to Barb and Greg Potter and the GABBA folk for prominently displaying our event on their site. HUGE thanks also to Joe, Rob, and Ron and the HTN folk for the internet PR. Many came because of it.
Thank you Bill Ector for coming to my home town, and for sitting in on drums.
Thank you Lefty Collins and the No Mercy Band for coming to Gadsden, playing your butts off for 2 days, and for a rediculous paycheck.
Thanks to my lifelong friends from the Buffalo Bar, who went to and supported every event.
And thank you, my friends here, for taking the time, spending the money, to come to my hometown to help us honor the life and legacy of Duane Allman. My love to you.

Back home from the Jam for Duane!! WOW!!!!
It was so wonderful to see all of my friends that I would have never made if it had not been for Duane Allman.
The highlight of the trip??? There was not just one but so many:
David has already described the event so well but he missed one wonderful thing that happened after he and Ellen had left. We were blessed to have Johnny Sandlin join us for a too brief time. It was such a pleasure to be able to thank him for all of his contributions to the music that I love and to especially thank him for his sharing the New Year's resolution that Duane wrote.
Meeting Kim Payne and having long one on one conversations with him were so special.
Seeing Bill Ector and Rick T playing drums was such fun.
Having breakfast with Jack Pearson, Bill E. and Greg was very special.
All the bands: Derek, Lefty's, and Jimmy's with Jack P as well as all that participated in the Saturday jam!!
As always, after a weekend like this, it is hard to come back to the Real World.
Thanks Randy and Brent for a great weekend and thanks to the kind folks in Gadsden that showed us some warm hospitality.
Also a special thanks to Rusty who met me at the airport with directions to Gadsden.
Butch said, "You said that this deficit was caused by the war in Iraq. Wrong. It was caused by a reduce taxes and spend president."
According to Mr. Greenspan the tax cut actually helped the country in getting us out of the recession, but nice spin.
After all the politics around here, the link below is absolute comic relief. Click on the Triumph clip, it is hilarious.

After thinking about it for a couple of days, I feel I owe ALL here in this GB an apology.
I apologize that I did not follow my own initial gut reaction to NOT post anything in response to Butch and his political views. It appears Butch has been holding court with his political views and wishes for a change in virtually the entire federal government backstage, on the elevator, on the tour bus, and so forth, therefore, it was to be expected the GB would simply be an extension of venues for him to express his views.
OK, so be it....he has as much right as anyone, so long as everyone else has the right to chime in.
But once again, as history has shown, Butch crossed the line when there is expressed disagreement, which is not acceptable to me. And like it or not, the fact is Butch started it, not only with me, but with others.
Knowing that, I should have taken the fish hook outta my mouth and left Butch to his opinions. I did not, and therefore I am guilty to contributing to the absolute foolish notion that first anyone at all would give a rat's ass WHAT my political views are and second that I would waste the broadband to express those views, and you folks have to scroll down to get to the matter at hand; music.
I came to that conclusion last night while I was playing Liz Reed at the Jam. I was the 2nd drummer and placed in JJ's spot on stage. I was thinking, concentrating, focusing on the original arrangement of Liz Reed. After countless hours of listening to wonderful Butch and JJ play their young asses off at Filmore, I felt the spirit of Duane and how all at once, this feeling of how it is THE MUSIC, and NOT the POLITICS, that brought us not only here in the GB, but at the Jam and at the venues in the first place.
That said, I want that pureness kept here, and will not offer my political views here anymore.
I wish Butch would do the same for the reasons given above.

Skipper and Coot, may you two dirty dogs have fun...... careful with the explosives, and watch for banditos.... howl at the coyotes for me.
Check out the electoral vote:
www.electoral-vote.com/
The whole country is up in arms, so many undecided voters!
I voted and never miss an election!
Everyone should be thankful to Lana and Rowland for allowing & listening to all of the political opinions here in the Guestbook.
It will be nice once the elections are finished, of course there will probably be a recount in sunny Florida!
Then I will have to listen to that crap on television here in the hurricane state!
:thewave:
The Important thing is to vote your heart, as I did & get on with your life!

Some people don't normally check out the WP which is probably the reason Butch chose to post here in the GB in the first place. Maybe he feels the election is important enough to inconvenience everyone for a couple weeks if it gets the word out and gets people really thinking. Hang in there, I'm sure you'll have your peaceful happy place back soon. :argue:
For the most part Scammer I would agree with you that the GB should be neutral and that political discussion should take place over in the Whipping Post. But the reality is that probably not going to happen until after Nov 2, and the reason for that is that this election is probably going to be most important election in quite a while as what's at stake is essentially the "soul" of America and how we (& others) see ourselves as nation as we move into the 21st Century. And you're right that most people have made up their minds about this election who they will be the voting for. But "most" is not "all". As an American, I feel I have the right and indeed the responsibility to inform others on how I see things and indeed the GB is a forum I can use. And Scammer I feel that you and anyone else who comes here has the same right that I do. You might not like how the arguments go sometime (and indeed, they can get a little ugly), but for you to try tell anyone here what to be posted and how is completely WRONG on your part. That is not your job. Now if you have problem with anything that I have said, I suggest you take it up with Rowland, who is the site administrator.
Hey from the Great Southwest. I'm at The Mecca of Mystical Music, Captain Skipper's Republic of Tea!
Having a very special time with a very special host family. 🙂
Gotta run and have some more fun!
Actually, Libby, since she could talk...if I tried to sing a song her mother sang to her and didn't sing in key she would proclaim 'you don't know words, Daddy!' and force me to stop. Same thing with the melodies on guitar - she's has an ear and, boy, is she determined! Thanks!!
cleaneuphippy said "I've found for the most part, people don't check out the links". Partial quote, please don't hang me.

This is because most people don't come here for politics or to read what professional writers and people who are paid for their viewpoints have to say.
The GB in my opinion should be a place for announcements, to say hello, and offer good wishes to others. The political talk here tends to often get nasty and have people say things to each other they would probably not say face to face. I like a cordial place and recently, as in some past times things can get mean spirited here. If I want that I'll go the Whipping Post area and post and read away. As I have said in the past many will agree with me that the GB should not be used in this way, but many will not. I don't mean to offend anyone but, in my opinion enough is enough. I enjoy reading others opinions on Bush and Kerry if they are the posters own and not someone elses. When I want to ear one I would like to be able to go to The WP forum and read them, not here in the GB.
Be safe,
John
Glad everyone had a good time at the Jam.
My beautiful Mara and I are just getting back to our quiet home, with memories and thoughts about the weekend.
I want to thank again Randy for all of his hard work first off. Randy deserves some rest and I hope he gets the cudos he deserves.
Lefty, I hope you and the guys have a safe trip back and we really enjoyed meeting each one of you and loved your music. Awsome!
There were so many nice people there at the Jam, and if I tried right now to thank them for coming up and speaking. I would forget someone as I am just too tired.
Bill: Loved seeing you again, and Gregg enjoyed seeing you. Will call you tomorrow Bill to settle up.
Tommy: Loved seeing you as always friend. You have a safe trip back.
And Jimmy Hall and Kim Payne were just awsome to both meet and talk Duane. Learning more about the true Brother just makes it clear the Jam is justified, as Duane Allman is someone who deserves to be remembered.

What's the matter, Scammer, afraid to see what conservatives really think about your boy? I've posted for quite awhile over in the Whipping Post and I've found for the most part, people don't check out the links and I sure as hell don't want to write a long post, when somebody else has said pretty much what I think and feel, and said it a helluva lot more eloquently than I could. If you don't want to read it, scroll through.
