Hello everyone! This is a very late and short review on the Mule show last Friday in Indy - suffice to say they seriously kicked arse! I tend to lower my expectations when bands pass thru Indy - we tend to be 'in between' bigger cities/better venues/etc...throw in the fact that the boys drove from Alabama to get here...I thought they may mail it in a bit. Boy, was I wrong! There were a little over 30 people in our group and we were all blown away. They started with Lola and never looked back. Setlist was VERY fresh and surprising - the band sounded great, although I thought Danny was turned down just a bit. (That may have been due to where I was standing?) The closed the 1st set with Patchwork Quilt - which I hadn't heard them do, I Shall Return (one I was hoping to hear) into Drift Away back into Return. Just GREAT! Then opened the 2nd set with Wild Horses - nice touch. Well before the show I said to Josh 'I know we won't get it but I'd love a BIG, FAT 32/20 Blues'. Well, the stars lined up and guess what the first encore was? Yep. A BIG, FAT 32/20 Blues. Final encore was Soulshine - a Mammoth Soulshine, I might add. As always they certainly left me wanting more. As much as I love the ABB I definitely would love to be able to see Mule more often - wow! But obviously he can't tour any more than he already does! Haynes/Farmer '08!! 😎

It seems that rumors tend to exist during idle times. Whether it is sports, politics or the ABB. When there isn't anything substantive to discuss, people try to make something to talk about. That aside, I am a big fan of facts. Fact 1 - There is no reason to suggest that there is any lineup change on the horizon. Nothing from band or the fine folks with direct and indirect band affiliation. Fact 2 - Where is info coming from? That in of tself should put the rumors to rest.

Well Rick, if you are in the know, and it is just a rumor and not official news, and we are all friends, why don't you just share what you know instead of teasing us and letting our minds think of the worse...? Ryan

Hey all.... Well, if the rumor I heard yesterday is true, then my only response would be he wont be missed by me. The replacement person named, however, will be killer at that spot. I look forward to the lineup next year. It WILL be different. Rick Tomlinson

Hi Skydog007, Hopefully the great sound of the Instant Live CD will make the show much hotter for you. The Sky is Crying is one of the key reasons that show was selected. I have heard some say that Derek's solo on that song may be the best blues solo ever captured by him on CD. In addition to being blistering performances, all of "West Best" tend to have something special on them - a new song (The Night They Drove ol' Dixie Down), a seldom played song (Sky is Crying, Who to Believe), the reintroduction of a song (Stormy Monday), a new version of a song (electric Come on in My Kitchen), one of the greatest versions ever of a song (Mtn Jam at Jones Beach), etc. or a special guest (JP in Knoxville!!!). I love Butch's end-of-the-tour speech! He wasn't drunk (doesn't drink), just tired and hurting. He was in a good deal of pain as his shoulder was hurting him. I think we tend to forget these guys ages because they make us feel so young. Having gone to most of these shows, I can assure you that the Tour Mystic is not steering you wrong! JNB

so I was looking at the instant live packages and was very surprised to see San Antonio in the mix.... Personally, the show was not that hot. yes there were some great songs but sonically from where I was it was not there..... makes me wonder because KW has always taken care of the fans...... however, there is that Butch Trucks kind of drunken speech at teh end. peace and love--Scotty

Spent some quality time tonight with my long-time friend from Daytona, Jimmy Walker. Jim has been corresponding with Bill Thames, talking of how things evolved that led to Duane having so much impact on the world of music today. Jim passed along some bio stuff from one of the early participants, Pete Carr. I've forwarded to a few of us. EAPFP

Hi Eitan, No ruffled feathers here...the cost for the complete set is a lot of dough - and we always try to listen to input from folks like yourself. Someone was talking about this on E-mule today and here is what I reponded with: Several people mentioned your post on e-mule to me today and I wanted to respond. I didn't see it directly as I am not a member (ironically, my job keeps me from surfing the web too much!) but I hope that I address your points about the 2004 Complete Summer Set of Instant Live CDs... The retail value of the 24 shows is $545 and the 35th Anniversary/Summer Set Commemorative Case cost about $150.00 It is a custom made, hard, black case with metallic corners made to look like the road cases from the Fillmore East picture with stenciled lettering, handle, latches, etc. The road goodies are pretty cool too - I wish I could tell you what they all are but the ABB management would rather make it a surprise. When you throw in the poster, HTN subscription and all, - it adds up to $726 plus the goodies. While I agree that it is a high price, the decision was made to offer a quality, collectible piece of memorabilia in this 35th anniversary year. We tried to have a price point for everyone with a small (Fox Box), medium (West Best)and large set of products (Complete Summer Set). Hope this helps explain some of the thinking, Best Regards, JNB

Hey TerriB, Mule in Billings??? Haven't seen that on the tour list. If they're just passing through on I-90 they're welcome to set up and play in my backyard. In late November it could be about the same weather as when Warren was last here over July 4th(!)
