Hey Mr. Dirt - Happy Birthday!!
Happy , Happy Birthday Kenny ODR..
have a great and wonderful day
HAPPY BIRTHDAY OLD DIRT ROAD!!
:birthday: Cujo!!!!
:birthday: Pam!!
May you both enjoy your special days!!
Saw Ryan Adams & The Cardinals last night. Show goes like this:
Perfomance - solid A
Setlist - solid A
Ryan playing little acoustic all night: B- decision
Sound system at the Tabernacle (hope it wasn't his sound man's fault): C-
Overall B
Too bad it could not have presented in better sound, which ironically was overhauled last month. It was too loud, boomy and crunchy. It was drowning out the pedal steel guitarist, who is excellent. Only really on the tunes where Ryan played piano or acoustic could you hear pedal steel. I've seen Gregg & Friends shows, multiple Mule shows there, Crowes last year etc it has always sounded reallly good to me, albeit a bit boomy.
Last night was the Crazy Horse Garage Band alter-ego of Ryan Adams but playing his country music from about 4-5 albums, plus a choice cover of Franklin's Tower.
Ryan has written some of best songs of the last 8 years. He tours with a really talented band. Of note is Neal Casal who opened the show. Reallllllly talented guy. Ryan (drums & piano) and his pedal steel player John came out and backed Neal without an intro. His sound out of the sound system was better.
Anyway, I heard some tunes last night we'll call classics (Oh My Sweet Carolina and Rescue Blues of particular note) and I'd love to see them with the sound that they had on Austin City Limits. Also interested to see if Ryan does a more acoustic show at the Ryman this week.
All things considered a real nice night of music to one of my favorite theatres (if the sound improves). Still a good show. Thanks for indulging me....
Tim

I had one of the ultimate thrills that a blues rock guitar afficianado can have this past Friday. i had the pleasure of working on and playing a 1960 Gibson Les Paul Standard Sunburst. Duane's, Gary Rossington's, and the Rev. Willie G's music flowed out of it like water over the High Falls dam!:guitarist:
Best regards all,
Byard
i think it mighta been billie jean.

Robert Randolph does "Jesus is just alright with me" on his new cd and he has done "Billie Jean" for a while now--I don't know if that was the Michael Jackson song he did last night but that could have been it.
Tourpros show is on and chatting in the Dickey Forum. Ya'll come on over.

Nice post on the Crowes show Linnie. I was also there basically for the same reasons you were. Havent seen the Crowes since they toured with Jimmy Page back in th late 90s, and a couple years before that with the original band. I decided to give them another chance since I had heard that Marc Ford was back on lead guitar and most of the original band was back in the fold ( minus Johnny Colt) on bass. This in my mind was an excellent show. It seems to me they have been studying under the Allmans mantra of how to effectively throw down and Jam. The show was very ''heady'' to me, which is right up my alley, with the band going out in left field excursions for 10 minutes and just when you thought it was going to fall apart, they would return and reel it in. I was really impressed with this band!! The highlights for me were the cover of Dylans It takes a Train w/ Rich robinson taking lead vocals. They just Nailed it. Great slide by Marc. But the real mindblower was the cover of Neil Youngs Alabama off of Harvest, It just Smoked. Marc on lead vocals. I always told my buddies that the Crowes were one of the last true great traditional rock bands to come out and now I believe that more than ever. Terrific show. Robert Randolph was really good also. What was strange was that he was playing a strat instead of his pedal steel for about 3 songs in his set. He did a killer version of the Doobies Jesus is just alright, and a really funky Micheal Jackson tune. I dont recall the name but do you blame me? Great pairing and a great night on the steamy waterfront.
