I Wish I Knew
I am from Cincinnati originally but I now live in Hampton Roads Virginia. I have been a DIE HARD fan for a long time. I drove the 570 miles and saw them at Riverbend. It was my first time and I enjoyed them so much. It was a moving experience. I am going to see them here at the Verizon here at Virginia Beach!!!
When Derek has lots of space to solo, he always starts out that way. I think he likes to hear (and let the audience hear) the rhythm section behind, then build on it.
I thought it was a teriffic show up until the drum solo. C’mon guys, it was 19 minutes. Are you kidding me? I don’t care if it’s Buddy Rich, Louie Bellson, etc., it gets to be a little much after about 5 minutes. So, then all we get for an encore is a standard One Way Out, and boom they’re gone before curfew is even close. Disappointing.
Don’t wanna finish these comments on a negative though. The first 1:50 or so was great stuff, especially Derek. Even Warren was a little less of his heavy-handed self and let it swing a little. Boy, he does like to fan though, doesn’t he. Any time he does more than about 32 bars of a solo, man he just has to grind it. Oh well. Would have liked to hear some new music, it’s about time isn’t it? Going to Cleveland Wednesday, hoping for Egypt, love that one.
The show had some incredible moments. We had really great seats up close – saw some funny facial expressions. Namely Warren who was getting frustrated at the sound guy and also frustrated at Gregg who seemed a little out of sorts during a song or two. Derek’s opening act was great – lotta smiles – but during the ABB set he seemed a little tentative or something with his equipment. He would start his solo on several songs and it took him a few bars to get it going. Warren, however was like a madman – he was on fire and his vocals were better than ever. I’ve been on a little Derek kick the last few months and Warren really seemed like the MAN at this particular show (the opposite of last year). It made me wish they had more Warren songs biult in to this night’s set list.
Overall it was a good show – Unbelievable “SAME THING” and “LITTLE SCHOOL GIRL”. I do wish though that they would pull out more rare/obscure stuff like they do in NYC. It seems here in Cincy they like doing the standard sets. Gimme somethin I’ve never heard!!
Great show though
