, but my very first time was with Chicago. Being that close to the band, feeling the warmth of the stage lights, looking out at the audience, dancing. Yes! I was giddy with excitement, glowing from the Mateus Rose, might have even sparked up.
Which explains how I got on stage in the first place. Our tickets were great. But. I. Wanted. More. So, I went for it - left my seat, ran down the aisle, jumped up and, presto! There I was on stage with Chicago! For about 10 seconds. Then security scooped me up and plopped me back into the audience.
People say you never forget your first time. In my case, that's true. I had just turned 21. My boyfriend made dinner reservations for us at a romantic (i.e., candles on the table) Italian restaurant. We ordered a bottle of Mateus Rose to go with our meal, then another. He pointed to his wallet, said he something else special planned - and pulled out tickets for us to see Chicago in concert. Yay!
Then came an even bigger surprise. I've been on stage with many bands at least once, and with one band many, many times

I don't think I was onstage but I did meet and spend an hour or so backstage with Grinderswitch. I was interviewing them for a music column I was writing at the time. So, I believe the actual first time onstage was 12/7/80 at Pershing Auditorium in Lincoln for The Outlaws and the ABB! For a time was I was in the dressing room with just Gregg, Dickey and me. Gregg remarked, among other things, that his birthday was the next day. That day turned out to be when John Lennon was taken from us.
