Sorry Kentucky fans. But .

Why? Because it's good for college basketball. Coach John Calipari and his Kentucky team are the kings of "one and done". They get obviously huge pro prospects who come in for only one year of college basketball and leave for the pros. A few years ago his entire starting lineup left for the pros. But it doesn't hurt the Kentucky program because Calipari recruits a slew more of the same kind of guys for the next year.

Personally, I think there ought to be a rule that a college basketball player must stay for two years before they go pro. It's good for the player, it's good for the school, it's good for the game. It's only my opinion, but it's not good for a 19 year old kid to become a multi-millionaire without the maturity that a couple of years in college would bring.

But until that happens, I love to see a team like Wisconsin, with a bunch of guys who are in school for a full four years, knock off a team like Kentucky.

I'll give Calipari a nod before I end this thread, though. There were some bad calls near the end that didn't go his way, specifically a shot clock violation. After the game he said, "We still had chances to win the game. We didn't do it. Give Wisconsin credit."

Nothing but class, John.

I agree with the whole "One and Done University" crap.

First part of the second half Kentucky was getting all the calls.

Two different blows to the head that weren't called, one could have a Flagrant 1.

First, I have to preface this by saying I'm a 35 year Louisville Cardinal basketball season ticket holder. Kentucky's biggest rival.

But, the One and Done, thing is not an NCAA issue, it is an NBA issue. The NBA now has a minimum age of 19 for players. That's why some kids at several schools have to wait a year before entering the draft. I repeat, several schools. Look at Duke for example.

I believe it would be illegal to require someone to stay at a school for 2 years. Would you want a law to say that if you start a job, you have to stay there 2 years?

The solution would be for the NBA to either accept players as soon as they graduate from High School, or put in a rule that players aren't eligible for a certain number of years after high school graduation. But then you still have the issue of how this applies to international players. And possibly some labor laws,

UK had 4 freshman that were great players this year. Would you want your child to not be eligible to make millions of dollars?

You make some great points. Requiring two years of college would most likely get into a load of legal issues. Meanwhile, I can rejoice when a team like Kentucky loses.

That's a double edge sword,
You want your kid to make millions, but also education is very important as their careers don't always last and they don't have the maturity to save or invest what they do earn.
Was pulling for WISC.myself.
Overall was a good game, even with some questionable calls,or non calls

As Charlie said it's an NBA rule not a Coach Cal rule. It's never mentioned the number of one and dones that Duke has. UK Duke and Kansas get the majority of one and dones.

As a dyed in the wool bleed blue as blue can get Kentucky fan I love all the hate directed towards us. It means we're on top again. When we had 10 loss Tubby Smith ( no disrespect to Tubby he's a good man. It's just that it takes a certain type to be successful at UK) and Billy Gillespie the media loved us.

If you were a 5 star high school player why wouldn't you want to play at UK? Cal has probably put more players in the NBA than anyone else in the last 10 years. There's nowhere else that they can get better prepared for their career than here.

Unless you live here you can't understand the attention that basketball players get, they're treated like rockstars yet they are good members of the community. Marcus Lee won an award for his community service, every day it seems a story comes out about a sick kid that Willie Cauley-Stein has befriended.

I thought all along that Wisconsin was the one team that could beat us. It was a poorly officiated game both ways. I can't believe that that poor of an officiating team was doing a Final Four game.

Since this is the Whipping Post I'll go back to lurk with this comment. I knew we weren't going to win when Obama picked us. I don't think he has ever picked a winner since he has been in office. So I blame Obama 😉

More great perspective, this time from a UK fan.

I'm not sure all UK players are quite so classy. Maybe Harrison's remarks were taken out of context, but if he were white and Kaminski was black, it would hardly matter. Also, skipping the postgame handshake line? Unforgiveable and EXTREMELY low class.

Personally I think it's kind of funny that a black guy would call a white guy that. I'm waiting for Al and Jesse to speak out against this 😉

Was there a handshake line? A lot times when there's big celebrations. The congratulations often get bypassed.

The big winners in this system are the Colleges who make a fortune; and the NBA which doesn't need to be burdened running their minor league teams.

The big losers are the players who aren't going to make the pro's; but who delude themselves into thinking so and are allowed to play despite not really being students.
