When the west is at its most united & prepared for war, Trump asks Putin for dirt on Biden
The west & China to a certain extent are all in agreement that Putin is a thug & a war criminal at the very least & are acting in concert in a way even more so than WW2.
Self-Centered Trump is calling on Putin for dirt on Biden's son. IMO, it's consorting w/the enemy & Trump is the war criminal. Can you imagine Alf Landon or Wendell Wilkie calling for Hitler to give him some dirt on FDR?
I'm not at all surprised Trump would do such a thing. If for no other reason than just to get a little media attention. He's like a bratty child who engages is any behavior necessary to get the attention of a parent.
It just eats him up knowing he's no longer the center of the media universe. Even his own newly created social media company has been shut down. Despite the brilliant leadership of Devin Nenues (sp.).
Trump's batting average for start-up companies might just be the worst of any born with a silver spoon in his mouth rich kid in the history of, well, rich kids...
Still, it's just unconscionable for a former president to publicly say such things aimed at Putin in the midst of a crisis.
I've known The Donald for a long time & now think he's truly ready for a psych ward.
I agree with both of your assessments...His self-serving request of Putin being unconscionable, and his need for a lengthy stay in a Psych ward.
Yet no one is seriously suggesting he be censured in any way.
Ret. NSC Vindman tweeted: "Tell me this traitor’s security clearance has been revoked. He openly conspires with the enemy, when the U.S. is attempting to steer clear of a war with Russia."
Even as Trump spoke, Putin was waging a war of unremitting terror that has killed thousands of Ukrainians. The West has rallied to oppose him, and nearly every American political figure — from both parties — has denounced the Russian thug.
And it is at this moment, amidst a brutal war of aggression, that Trump once again reached out for Putin’s help in attacking the sitting American president and, by extension, this country.
Here’s where we come to the treasonous smoking gun:Trump explicitly frames his request to Putin as an act of retaliation not just against Biden, but against the United States itself.
Some accounts leave out the key phrase that Trump uses when he explains why Putin might help him.
"As long as Putin is not exactly a fan of our country...I would think Putin would know the answer to that. I think he should release it... you won't get the answer from Ukraine... I think Putin now would be willing to probably give that answer."
As long as Putin is not exactly a fan of our country...said the former and perhaps future president at a time of international conflict.
Now commenceth my rant.
-
Republicans, defend this. Go ahead. Try. Don’t dodge or hedge. Defend your leader’s partnership in slime and blood with Vladimir Putin.
-
Tell me again that he learned his lesson.
-
Explain again that you think the whole Russia thing was a hoax.
-
Justify putting this defeated, disgraced, twice-impeached deplorable back in the Oval Office.
-
And make the case for giving the nuclear codes back to this scabrous traitor.
I feel like Chicken Little. Putin has reminded us (& those generations who didn't know what the Cold War was like or what a ground war in Europe is like) yet a single man has such a grasp on a portion of the GOP that no efforts have been made to treat him like the conspirator & traitor he is. In any other time, he would have been imprisoned by now.
The lack of GOP acknowledgment of Trump’s traitorous actions while in office and now is precisely why I changed my party affiliation a few weeks after January 6th, 2021.
I truly wonder how those in the GOP who remain silent can look themselves in the mirror and continue to claim they’re patriots. They’re so spineless and self serving it’s disgusting.

Even far right political commentator Charlie Sykes weighed in against Trump - point being that Sykes is trying to save the GOP from itself & that Trump is not only a former president but could be president again.

Agree with just about everything you stated. Well done. In spite of everything we saw from him over the years prior to 2016, during his prez, Jan 6, and since then, the far majority of the GOP & certainly his rabid and uninformed base line up to lick Trump's shoes & kiss that traitor's ring. Think back to when he sat on the stage with Putin & sided with him over our own security agencies. The GOP barely blinked. His foreign policy decisions and dealings with foreign countries leads one to believe he was more aligned and identifies with autocrats than with NATO.
I will make one point - I haven't followed Charlie Sykes' voting record from his days in the House, but as a commentator, I don't see him as far right. He seems reasonable more times than not. However, maybe that's because he has a different megaphone now????
Trump acts like a bully kid. Don't you understand why he wants dirt on Biden and family? Because the Hillary Clinton campaign sprang the Inside Edition video and the fake Steel report bought and paid for by Hillary's campaign.
The reason Trump ran for President in the first place is because President Obama embarrassed him in front of his table of friends and national television at the annual Washington Press dinner.
But Trump started the fight with Obama by going in TV claiming Obama was not born in the United States.
Supposedly Trump played the birth certificate card on Obama because Democrat Senate leader Harry Reid took the floor of the Senate and on C-Span and made headlines by stating Mitt Romney had NOT paid any federal income taxes in over 10 years WITHOUT ANY EVIDENCE TO PROVE IT!! Romney denied it but never provided 10 plus years of tax returns.
Not long before Harry died he was asked about that and Harry admitted he had NO proof and was likely lying but had no regrets because Harry was not going to allow Mitt Romney defeat President Obama's re-election bid.
I think making up lies on political opponents is WRONG!! It needs to stop on both sides.
As to Trump, he is the kind of person who delights in throwing dirt on his opponents but can not tolerate it when it's done to him. Remember in the Republican primaries Trump claimed Ted Cruz's father was one of the shooters in the Kennedy Assassination in 1963. Without ANY PROOF!!
I've only seen Sykes mentioned as "far right political commentator" and presumably his publication The Bulwark is conservative so I don't know what his general leaning is. What mattered here was that both a fired National Security Council director AND a commentator generally known for his far right postures are both bringing some objectivity to identifying Trump's remarks as treachery. I echo Vindman - it is dangerous to give Trump the same intelligence re Ukraine other former presidents receive (if any) as he would no doubt pass it on to Putin. Trump is interested in Trump not the US.
I did recently read that those GOPers up for re-election are echoing Trump out of fear that if they don't run or don't echo Trump, one of his more rabid, boot-licking flock will run & possibly win the seat. Interesting theory, but that presumes they aren't true believers themselves.
