Am quite sure teams realize big $ from TV contracts - but yes it’s mostly at the gate, & w/no fans, combined with no concessions income - two key revenue sources, gonzo
As you said, we’ll see....

The state of Pennsylvania denies the Blue Jays a temporary home in Pittsburgh. Could they be on the road the whole season?

Hartford?
They’d never be as popular as the Yard Goats tho 😉

I think Macon could handle two minor league and one major league teams for the summer.

If you are referencing baseball with big $$ from TV, I would question that. No Monday nights to a huge national audience, No Thursday night, no Sunday package where all the games are on. I would counter with no way is baseball even in that conversation when it comes to TV $$. They need the gate, the concessions, souvenirs and to a degree, so does football......but.

If you hated the 1-game Wild Card like me, you're going to hate MLB's new 16 team playoff setup that's been approved.
The Major League Baseball Players Association has agreed to a plan to expand the playoffs to 16 teams for the 2020 season, sources told ESPN's Marly Rivera.
A playoff expansion still needs the final approval of MLB owners, sources said.
All second-place teams in the six divisions will qualify for the playoffs, sources said. Then the seventh and eigth teams in both leagues will be chosen by best record among other teams.
Sources said an important aspect for the players was player and family housing and access to the stadium during the playoffs.
If a 16-team format is adopted, it would include a televised postseason-seeding show in which top-seeded teams pick their first-round opponents, a source told ESPN's Buster Olney on Thursday.
More teams? Certainly breaks with tradition. With 30 teams, there are more and more teams on the playoff bubble - but isn't that what makes August and September so exciting?
At least I understand getting more fans involved in postseason baseball, but producing a TV show where teams pick their opponent as if this were the school yard? Seriously? Just let 'em play!
I can usually roll with format changes but this is one of the worst ideas in pro sports ever. I was really hoping this was just meaningless chatter.

Agree again.....Could it be any more clear?...That this is an attempt to recoup the $$$$$$$$$$$$$$ lost?.....Baseball is in trouble, just look at some of the contracts! NO gate this season. Other than a legitimate playoff series, who is glued to the TV for baseball?

Not going to argue baseball isn't looking for ways to make money, but this playoff format has been rumored since the offseason.

Listened to the Yankee game on the radio last night. Well, innings 4-6. Almost sounded like real baseball.

If I understand it, 16 of the 30 teams are in the playoffs. Odds are there will be a team of two in with a losing record. God, they are going to make it as bad as the NHL and NBA.

(jaundiced sardonic tongue in cheek etc)
The Cleveland Baseball Team is playing its season opener tonite!!!
Yes in their home by the lake, the Indi, Dangit, apologies - The Team lake, I mean lake team........
LAKERS - that’s it
The LA Basketball Team only has its name b/c of its origins in Minnesota - “The Land Of 10,000 Lakes”
Lake Erie would dwarf all them combined - Lakers shouldn’t piss anyone off too much (xcept Indians fans) - it’s common, entirely predictable & safe - it would also fit within the prescribed parameters of being PC
Can everyone say Cleveland Lakers
Yes I know, not possible when yawning

mets won, Braves lost 1-0. Still a good game, several "almost" home runs, heroic runs and catches, exciting base play, oh, and the Mets were there too.
Could the Cleveland team be called the Cuyahogas? Uniform could have a broad, twisty streak of blue that has flames erupting from it.

If right was right & fair was fair that’s what they’d do Jerry - Great Suggestion!!:D

(in all seriousness)
For The 2019 Record, Bravo Stephen
Didn’t Miss A Start - 18-6, then couldn’t be touched in postseason - 5-0, 1.98 ERA, 36 Ks in 33 IP - & Just 4 Walks - the greatest postseason pitching ever, concluding an awesome overall mark of 23-6
Sandy Koufax himself was in awe
Sandy had a 10 year career
Stephen completed his 10th last year - 112-58 record, 1,695 Ks in 1,400+ IP
That’s Koufaxian, as the #s show
Sandy, 116-97, including a sick 96-27 over his last five years - 2,434 IP, 2,396 Ks
Sandy had his so-so 1st 5 years, Stephen has had all the injuries - so some dynamics there in comparing the careers of these two greats - ‘Stras’ would be a lot closer to Koufax but for the missed time & restricted IPs
But the point is, after a great season he amped up another notch or two on the big stage in leading Wash to World Series title - mad ups, he’d never shown that kind of endurance b4

Don't look now but Detroit could make the playoffs! 😛

How about the Cleveland Mistakes?
Watched a lot of baseball, good chunks of Sat and Sunday Brewer and Yankee games. Almost felt normal. The crowd sound guy has a tough job, reacting to every single play.
I still can't stand Joe Buck.

Sources - Marlins cancel game as coronavirus spreads
The Miami Marlins' home opener against the Baltimore Orioles on Monday night has been canceled, sources told ESPN's Jeff Passan, as coronavirus cases continue to pop up among the team.
Eight more players and two coaches with the Marlins have tested positive for coronavirus, as an outbreak has spread throughout their clubhouse and brought the total of cases in recent days to at least 14, sources familiar with the situation told ESPN.
The Marlins remain in Philadelphia and continue to undergo testing after their weekend series there.
This season will not go the distance easily.

I told my wife on Friday that I really don't see the season make all 60 games. With the number of players showing positive, those in the dugouts not wearing masks, breathing heavily, and no distancing
there will more than likely be a major outbreak in some teams.

Watching the Braves/Rays game and they found a way to get a little bit more money.
The back of the pitchers mound doesn't have a team logo, MLB logo, it has a sign for, get this

Can we all give players a big round of applause for not spitting? I think I saw it happen once over the weekend, that's practically reflexive.
But I agree, the NBA has their work cut out for them just playing in their Disney bubble. MLB is still traveling, not a good sign if they can't even get through one weekend without grounding teams.

I love that stuff. It isn't Frank's but it is still damn good!

Bob, I think your points are well taken. I haven't seen anyone spit which is of course a good thing. But there are other things that are concerning:
Pitchers licking their fingers to get a grip on the ball.
Some of the celebrations. They shouldn't be that close of course.
And the one that really floors me is in both dugouts you have a dozen or more guys leaning up on the railing standing right next to each other. Some with masks, some not. Not sure why the teams don't try to keep the players away from each other.
And regarding them finishing a 60 game season I agree with you. Just don't see it happening unfortunately.

You've never had my Habanero Puree.
A friend tried to make it and ended up hosing down the kitchen in a hazmat suit. Shouldn't have tried doing it in a blender with dry peppers and no vinegar.

Totally agree, I'm not sure where they have chosen to draw the line. Marlins games through Sunday postponed, 17 positives in the club house. I'm curious what it will take to pull the plug, when is this attempt no longer viable or profitable.

17...And they are still out on the field playing & running....You realize this started with one...and they were able to play. Then 5 and still, they practiced and played....then 12 and they practiced and played...now 17!...and they were still practicing and playing....
They've tested positive and if very few develop symptoms and do not become ill, can they practice and play?

Considering we don't know how sick any of players are or will be, it would be really stupid to speculate regarding a virus that affects each person differently, or how it might affect older managers and umps.

Okay you baseball know it alls, I have a question for you. Made a bet with a buddy. If (and that's a fat if) can the Tiggers win 19 games this season?
$20 bar bet and the bartender wanted in on it so I have $40 on the Tiggers winning 19 games. I mean, they suck but are they THAT bad?

Will they play 19 games?

I like the idea of 7 inning doubleheaders, would like to see that when/if real baseball ever returns - makes sense
Johnny Mac deserved to have that ‘86 title - he was great, then fired, leading to the improbable Morgan’s Miracle....
RIP John McNamara

One new rule that I like this year is the relief pitcher minimum. I don't know how many 4+ hour games I watched where there was a parade of guys out of the bull pen in the 6th, 7th, 8th...
