Cruz's wacky position on various issues...

1. Debt and Deficit Spending - Favors cuts in spending, Balanced Budget Amendment, spending caps on spending tied to GDP. Not in favor of ending any specific program. Nothing outrageous here.

2. Abortion - Pro-life. Ho hum.

3. Energy and Environment - Supports expanded drilling and opposes Cap and Trade legislation. Nothing out of line here.

4. Taxes - Proposes a corporate tax rate of 15%. Supports moving as close as possible to a flat tax or fair tax system that maintains the mortgage interest and charitable giving deductions. Wacky!

5. Immigration - Supports valid US Immigration laws and opposes amnesty. Again, nothing really out of line here.

6. Scope of Government - Favors a return of the Federal Government to it's constitutionally defined roles. Unhinged!

7. Term Limits - Supports term limits. How extreme can you get?

8. Second Amendment - Supports right to keep and bear arms. Wow!

9. Social Security - No change for seniors. Raise retirement age for younger participants. In favor of voluntary partial privatization. Nothing earth shattering here.

What a loose cannon!!

alloak, this was your original statement - "Name a few examples from Cruz that we should get ready for. You know, the one's that will have everybody doubled over with laughter. The real wacky stuff."

So then PhotoRon & I gave you detailed and ample examples of wacky stuff...

What? No you didn't. PhotoRon posted a link and you directed to a search engine.

Alloak is the only one that really took the time to cite anything... the only one who put any effort in at all.

Just keeping it real.

Bull$hit. That would have given him everything he really didn't want in the first place. I could have easily "cited" things, but he's playing games. Both what I did & PhotoRon provided directed to valid points & answered the questions. The fact that we even chose to answer his post shows effort...maybe doesn't meet your standard...too bad.

Perhaps your favorite statement on this board is along the lines of "I can't wait for the GOP clown car debates for the entertainment value." I've offered multiple opportunities on multiple threads to provide some examples of what we should expect and don't seem to be getting many examples from you. Maybe you could give us some predictions now so we could go back and check out the accuracy of your claims when the time comes.

Let us see - immigration, medicare revamp, extension of SS age, tax breaks for corporations & the wealthy, cuts to aid for the poor, possibly why marijuana shouldn't be legalized, repeal of Obamacare (possibly can aim for 100 + failed efforts), etc. The presentations (won't call them debates) will be entertaining.

My prediction is & has been that a GOP nominee will not win the White House. You can feel to go back & check that now or after the election. Hell, I've tried to call you out & bet you numerous times. You have proven you have no real confidence in whoever will be the GOP nominee to step up to the plate.

I totally agree, putting any more effort into it than that would have been a total waste of your time. You'll not be changing his mind about anything anytime soon. That never happens, I'm sure you've noticed by now.

But he did list 10 things he thinks are not crazy about Ted Cruz which was more effort than you guys collectively put into this pointless discussion, and then you criticized him for going the extra mile. I just had to say something.

PB,

He listed the anthesis of what he asked in his first question. He asked about "wacky Ted" not "serious Ted". What he did was nothing more than a bait and switch. Pretty poor to have to resort to doing that on a web site.

If he'd have asked about real issues in the first place, then he would have gotten a different response. But knowing how he operates, he got the amount of time he deserved. I stand by my search suggestion, and I'll back PhotoRon's link as accurate for the question asked. Sorry, I don't see him going an extra mile as you stated. Moreso, by his tactics he created extra mileage.

http://www.nytimes.com/2015/03/23/us/politics/ted-cruz-to-announce-on-monday-he-plans-to-run-for-president.html?_r=0

Ted (let's shut the government down) Cruz will announce tomorrow he'll run for President. Of all places he chose Liberty University founded by Jerry Falwell to make his announcement. This is a school where creationism is taught and is frequented by GOP speakers & candidates for offices. Religion and politics mix quite well at Liberty University.

Here's a challenge to all you conservatives, and I've had no success in the past on this site in getting anyone to step up to the plate. I will bet any of you $1000.00 that Ted Cruz will not be the next POTUS. I will donate the winnings to a charity for the poor or underprivileged. Any believers in Ted?

I don't think he will be the next president either.

I will bet you Ted will get more votes than Bernie Sanders the closet liberal democrat or your progressive darling, Alan Grayson should either actually commit, but I understand Hillarys the belle of the ball and no candidates will step forward yet.

[Edited on 3/22/2015 by OriginalGoober]

I believe Bernie is an Independent whose views are progressive. Independents choose to caucus with a party of choice.

You mean regressive.

Actually, Bernie Sanders is a socialist, makes no bones about it. I've long thought that the two most honest men in Congress were Sanders and Dennis Kucinich. Maybe they are outside the norms, but at least they are completely honest about who they are.

Now on this I agree. As opposed to say President Obama and Hillary Clinton who are completely dishonest about who they are.

Let's be honest Doug how many politicians from either party who have a chance to run for POTUS are completely honest about who they are? I am not saying this is right just that in today's politics it is what it is.

There are going to be a lot more eyes and ears tuned on the republican side because of the dismal economy, horriffic unemployment, and food stamp army. At least Ted is going to get the discussion going.

Hilarys "cam-feign" going on right now is so ungenuine and so inside-politics that it is going to back-fire in a big way. No democrat has the balls to stand up and say "I'm running" instead they are all a bunch of feckless and spineless robots waiting until "dead broke Hilary" makes a move.

Bernie is a card -carrying socailist MSNBC fave, but when it matters such as voting on legislation, he is voting allong with the democrats and railing against republicans. Thats why he loves Obama so much and wants to continue with Obamas Euro-Socialist agenda.

Well, sure. It's a strict two-party party. How many libertarians and "Tea Party" members of Congress break away from Republican votes and railing against Democrats?

Since a huge chunk of the GOP faithful said that Obama couldn't be president because he was born outside the US and only had one parent that was a US citizen, I can't wait until I see some birthers supporting this guy. I guess Canada is the US and Hawaii isn't. I can't wait I tell you! It will be beautiful!

Since Donald Trump is considering a run, wouldn't he be the logical choice to pursue this & to eliminate his competition.

So who would you really rather have as President? Hillary, who somehow managed to hide all her email from the NSA. A feat unparalleled by hackers and geeks, yet Hillary hides her entire online footprint.

Or... Ted Cruz. A guy so out of touch he doesn't even secure the web site, tedcruz.com

http://www.tedcruz.com

I know you conservatives recoil at the thought of an educated, intelligent President. Yet, I gotta think - smarts matter.

I will not support a candidate that thinks we can cut our way to prosperity. I want someone who will not just talk about this, but commit to addressing in a real way:

1. “‘Net neutrality’ is Obamacare for the Internet”

In November of last year, after President Barack Obama announced his support for “net neutrality,” Cruz had no choice but to come out against it, tweeting “Net Neutrality’ is Obamacare for the Internet; the Internet should not operate at the speed of government.”

2. “Instead of nominating a health professional, he nominated someone who is an anti-gun activist”

In an interview with Candy Crowley, Cruz claimed that the president’s pick for surgeon general, Vivek Murthy, wasn’t qualified because of statements he had made about the Second Amendment.

3. Obama just a “social worker” who wants to put ISIS “on expanded Medicaid”

In an appearance on Fox News’ Hannity, Cruz complained that United States military leaders were taking too many cues from the president. “It’s not our job,” he said, “to be social workers in Iraq and put them all on expanded Medicaid. It is our job to kill terrorists who have declared war on America and who have demonstrated the intention and capability to murder innocent Americans.”

4. “It is the job of a chaplain to be insensitive to atheists”

Speaking at a home schooling convention, Cruz said that “we have never seen an administration with such hostility to religious faith. Last year, there was a chaplain in the Air Force up in Alaska who wrote in a blog post the phrase ‘There are no atheists in fox holes.’ He was ordered by his supervising officer to take it down. I guess it was deemed insensitive to atheists. I kind of thought it was the job of a chaplain to be insensitive to atheists.”

5. “I didn’t threaten to shut down the government”

After leading the GOP charge to shut down the government, Cruz repeatedly claimed that he had nothing to do with the GOP shutting down the government.

6. “I will renounce any Canadian citizenship”

After speaking to Donald Trump about a possible run for the White House, Cruz admitted that he was born in Calgary, Canada. However, he told The Dallas Morning News that “I will renounce any Canadian citizenship. Nothing against Canada, but I’m an American by birth and as a US senator I believe I should be only an American.”

7. “I expect them to start quartering soldiers in people’s homes soon”

At the 2013 Values Voter Summit, Cruz said Obama was intent on violating the entire Bill of Rights. “You look at our Constitution, you look at our Bill of Rights, this is an administration that seems bound and determined to violate every single one of our Bill or Rights,” he said, adding “I don’t know that they’ve yet violated the Third Amendment, but I expect them to start quartering soldiers in people’s homes soon.”

8. “Gay marriage” leads to Christianity becoming “hate speech”

In an interview with the Christian Broadcasting Network, Cruz said that “if you look at other nations that have gone down the road towards gay marriage, that’s the next step of where it gets enforced. It gets enforced against Christian pastors who decline to perform gay marriages, who speak out and preach biblical truths on marriage, that has been defined elsewhere as hate speech, as inconsistent with the enlightened view of government.”

9. “I am a very, very proud wacko bird”

Responding to a statement by Senator John McCain that his opposition to immigration reform made him a “wacko bird,” Cruz to CBS News that “if standing for liberty and standing for the Constitution makes you a wacko bird then I am a very, very proud wacko bird.”

10. “I have never seen a Hispanic panhandler”

On Fox News Sunday in 2012, Cruz told host Chris Wallace that, “in my life, I have never once seen an Hispanic panhandler. In our community, it would be viewed as shameful to be out on the street begging.”

11. “Your world is on fire!”

At an event in New Hampshire last week, Cruz said “the Obama-Clinton foreign policy of leading from behind — the whole world is on fire.” When a little girl replied, “the world is on fire?” Cruz responded by saying, “Yes! Your world is on fire!”

12. “Green Eggs and Ham”

During his “filibuster” of the Affordable Care Act, Cruz took time out to read his daughters a bedtime story. “I don’t get to read it that often because I tell them, ‘Go pick the books you want to read and I read it to them,’” Cruz said on the Senate floor. “But since tonight, girls, you aren’t here, you don’t get to pick the book, so I get to pick Green Eggs and Ham.”

Agreed. But ironically those are the reasons why I like the guy. I think that basically sums up "confidence in his ability", IMO. He just seems like someone who will get stuff done, and I'd be interested to sit back and watch what develops. I'm a Philadelphia Eagles fan, and he's the Chip Kelly of politics. He'd shake things up, make decisions with conviction, and sell the people. Chip got rid of our best players, yet a majority of Eagles fans are openly on #teamchip. I would think the Republicans could really use a guy like that.

Him reading Green Eggs and Ham on the Senate floor is a political ad that an opponent doesn't even have to write. Just play the clip! Yikes!

At first, people really liked the way he talked, especially to reporters. Over time, that has become a liability.

He's much more of an throwback politician, IMO. That old style has become what so many folks don't like about politicians in general.
