Ted (let's shut the government down) Cruz will announce tomorrow he'll run for President. Of all places he chose Liberty University founded by Jerry Falwell to make his announcement. This is a school where creationism is taught and is frequented by GOP speakers & candidates for offices. Religion and politics mix quite well at Liberty University.

Here's a challenge to all you conservatives, and I've had no success in the past on this site in getting anyone to step up to the plate. I will bet any of you $1000.00 that Ted Cruz will not be the next POTUS. I will donate the winnings to a charity for the poor or underprivileged. Any believers in Ted?

Ben Carson, Donald Trump and now Ted Cruz. If these three are still standing the GOP debates are going to be epic! Grin

The media will report what he says. That is what will destroy him, his own words.

It's funny. Conservatives trump that Fox News is most watched, most trusted. But the lesser watched media can destroy their candidate. Really? Grin

I will bet you Ted will get more votes than Bernie Sanders the closet liberal democrat or your progressive darling, Alan Grayson should either actually commit, but I understand Hillarys the belle of the ball and no candidates will step forward yet.

Started your drinking early today Goober? Funny I don't remember one Liberal here ever bringing up either of those two names related to the 2016 elections and I am not sure what they have to do with the topic at hand.

No, he is right. Since Cruz is running and Sanders and Grayson are not, Cruz will get more votes than them.

I believe Bernie is an Independent whose views are progressive. Independents choose to caucus with a party of choice.

No way. Can't stand Cruz. In my opinion, once he gets out there and has to respond to questions and state his positions, let people see how he thinks and what is on his mind, any chance he might have had of being POTUS will evaporate quickly.

That just makes him a true American and a patriot for wanting to protect our country from foreign invaders. Just ask the conservatives on this forum. 😛

Name a few examples from Cruz that we should get ready for. You know, the one's that will have everybody doubled over with laughter. The real wacky stuff.

Really. The media at large is comprised of much more than just the cable networks, and being on the wrong side of it is a detriment. Not really going out on a limb here.

So even though you're probably more than familiar with Teddy, you come on here & try to bait other posters. You're a reasonably smart individual so just pull up google and type in the following:

wacky things said by ted cruz

I could do a big cut & paste for you, but that would take away all the fun for you. Enjoy the many links that more than answer your question.

Cruz's wacky position on various issues...

1. Debt and Deficit Spending - Favors cuts in spending, Balanced Budget Amendment, spending caps on spending tied to GDP. Not in favor of ending any specific program. Nothing outrageous here.

2. Abortion - Pro-life. Ho hum.

3. Energy and Environment - Supports expanded drilling and opposes Cap and Trade legislation. Nothing out of line here.

4. Taxes - Proposes a corporate tax rate of 15%. Supports moving as close as possible to a flat tax or fair tax system that maintains the mortgage interest and charitable giving deductions. Wacky!

5. Immigration - Supports valid US Immigration laws and opposes amnesty. Again, nothing really out of line here.

6. Scope of Government - Favors a return of the Federal Government to it's constitutionally defined roles. Unhinged!

7. Term Limits - Supports term limits. How extreme can you get?

8. Second Amendment - Supports right to keep and bear arms. Wow!

9. Social Security - No change for seniors. Raise retirement age for younger participants. In favor of voluntary partial privatization. Nothing earth shattering here.

What a loose cannon!!

So then PhotoRon & I gave you detailed and ample examples of wacky stuff. But that wasn't good enought for you. You then come back with the non wacky stuff. Bravo. If you weren't interested, you shouldn't have asked. You wouldn't play games, would you? That's petty & shallow.

The only thing that's truly worth of actual criticism is his 20-hour speech that helped shut down the government. That was a pretty lousy thing to do. Between trying to overcome that blunder, and his extreme conservative views, I don't see him standing much of a chance. As each day goes by it sounds more and more like Jeb has this locked if he wants it.

Would be surprised if Jeb did not get the nomination but the only questions I have is whether he will stay true to his beliefs or if he will let the extreme right in the GOP bully him into flip flopping like Romney did.

That is a real good hatchet job on his dad, Charlie LeDuff seems like a real middle of the road reporter. Descibe Cruz's audience as "audience of crusty conservatives" and describing Ted Cruz "bus driver of the FAR EXTREME RIGHT" I wonder if he calls Obama of the FAR EXTREME LEFT or the fake native American Elizabeth Warren of the FAR EXTREME LEFT

What? No you didn't. PhotoRon posted a link and you directed to a search engine.

Alloak is the only one that really took the time to cite anything... the only one who put any effort in at all.

Just keeping it real.

Bull$hit. That would have given him everything he really didn't want in the first place. I could have easily "cited" things, but he's playing games. Both what I did & PhotoRon provided directed to valid points & answered the questions. The fact that we even chose to answer his post shows effort...maybe doesn't meet your standard...too bad.

Perhaps your favorite statement on this board is along the lines of "I can't wait for the GOP clown car debates for the entertainment value." I've offered multiple opportunities on multiple threads to provide some examples of what we should expect and don't seem to be getting many examples from you. Maybe you could give us some predictions now so we could go back and check out the accuracy of your claims when the time comes.

Senator Cruz appears to be somewhat taking the role of the "protest candidate," not sure that role is much needed this time around as the GOP is pretty much in protest of everything they disagree with anyway. I don't think he'll be able to raise the massive amounts of cash necessary, but he will keep the populist side of the conversation moving and that is important as the primary process moves along.

As to the things he says, he can say and will say whatever he wants. Republicans are too beholden to the Reagan Rule for that to ever be a factor amongst the base.

Well, the implication from the thread starter and all the progressives is Ted is a wacky fringe-candidate so I put on the table two fringe candiates from the democratic party, although your commrades have yet to emerge from their holes .

Actually, Bernie Sanders is a socialist, makes no bones about it. I've long thought that the two most honest men in Congress were Sanders and Dennis Kucinich. Maybe they are outside the norms, but at least they are completely honest about who they are.
