Firing her for refusing to do her job would suffice. But from what I understand, you can't fire elected officials.

You may not be able to fire them but you can still jail them. The woman is now incarcerated. As it should be.

Justice served. Hope she plays the martyr card & camps out there for a long time.

As long as she's in the big house, she can't produce offspring to transfer her bigotry & small-minded beliefs to a next generation. Maybe not so...with her background, there's always the guards.

Smart judge (appointed by Bush). He knew a fine would be paid by her numerous anti-gay supporters. Her self-described "redneck hillbilly" husband said he expects her to remain in jail, which could last until the end of her term. Now 48, she got married at 18 then divorced, then had two kids while she was unmarried, then married her current husband, divorced him, married someone else, and then divorced him and remarried Husband #2. A son works in her office and continues to refuse to issue licenses. I guess he can be fired because he's not elected.

Who knew the county clerk in Rowan KY made $80,000?

Nothing but crickets from the conservative goon squad on this topic. I wonder why?

I guess all that stuff was OK under God's Law. It occurs to me that her life would have been simpler if she was a lesbian.

Glad to see that GoFundMe has changed their policy and noone who pulls this kind of crap can financially benefit from their fellow bigots sending them money.

No more pizza shop owners retiring on the hate money generated by their fellow knuckle draggers.

Even though GoFundMe is off limits here, the judge recognized that money would not have been an issue. There are plenty of individuals who identify with her bigotry and would have stepped up to the plate.

I saw her lawyer from the Liberty Counsel on TV today. He referenced the fact that she was doing the peoples' work. Seems to me that's just the opposite of what she was doing with her public funded job.

Here's a bit on the Liberty Counsel. It's easily understood why they'd represent her & for free.

Maybe if he hangs around long enough, and she continues her pattern of trading in husbands, then Peter may become her eighth husband. 😛

How did the woman's number of marriages become the main focus of commentary? Multiple marriages are not all that uncommon.

Homosexuality is not all that uncommon either. When she made the issue about her strongly held belief in "God's Law" she opened herself up to scrutiny about how she has lived her life.

In short, she's a hypocrite.

It's interesting that her lawyer said she's in a cell fighting tyranny. In reality, she is the face of tyranny. The sooner she is forgotten, the better for society to move forward. She needs to off of the taxpayers' paycheck, as she no longer is fulfilling the responsibilities of her job - good riddance.

I am dumbfounded that the woman is still collecting a paycheck. It seems to me she could be placed on leave w/o pay and an Acting Clerk could be appointed by the highest official in the county or the judge. She certainly isn't working from jail and the taxpayers (same sex couples included) are still paying her salary.

I haven't seen any of this covered in the news. If I were a citizen of Rowan County I would be pissed that my money was literally being spent for a woman who isn't working. Their focus is the parade of GOP hopefuls going to visit her which, to me, means they don't believe in the rule of law or the constitution..

The thing that is never mentioned is that the Clerk does a lot more than issue and record marriage licenses. That's done for alcoholic beverage, hunting/fishing, vehicle/boat, and any businesses that require registration, including fortune-tellers. The Clerk also maintains all kinds of property and fiscal records plus all election registrations. Theoretically, none of that is being overseen, documented, and forwarded to state officials while she sits in jail.

If I couldn't get my deed record or hunting license or voter registration processed because she's vacated her duties, I'd be really pissed. She couldn't work in any county job. Even if she worked in sanitation, she might have to pick up garbage from same-sex households.

One of her lawyers actually had the gall to compare her going to jail with Martin Luther King's "letter from the Birmingham Jail" event. One of the FOX editorialists had a column earlier this week also insinuating that she was somehow a champion of civil rights. Not only are these analogies ludicrous, they're just completely fvcked up and way off base. This lady is an oppressor - not a liberator! I think the civil rights activists of the 1960s should be pissed at these analogies!

I think they should keep her locked up for as long as possible.

She'll stay until she changes her mind, which most likely never, or her 4-year term is up.

Given that she's neglecting all her other duties as clerk, she should resign. People may not care about gay marriage licenses, but they do care about registering their car, recording their mortgage, or getting a hunting/fishing license.

X2

I saw that comparison in an AP article, and my first thought was - what the hell. To compare her to MLK is some sort of twisted logic. To mention her & her actions in the same sentence with MLK is an insult to all he stood for.

Hiding behind mid life religious conversions to enforce bigotry is not what's expected of public servants. May the light of a cell block shine brightly on her for many many nights.

Her latest & current husband when asked if she'd resign stated, "Oh God no. She's not going to resign at all. It's a matter of telling Bunning (the judge who sentenced her) he ain't no boss".

So there you go...straight form the horse's mouth.

Her attorney wants the Governor to make reasonable accommodations for her so she doesn't violate her beliefs. Look, she's a f'ing public servant. This tells how big a set of balls she really has.

The attorney wants an executive order to remove the requirement to have a clerk's signature upon issue as authority. I've got a better idea - how about this lady just step aside and let there be a vote by the people to replace her with someone who will actually fulfill the requirements of the job as opposed to her attempting to redefine the job as if she owns it.

Agreed. And what are her beliefs? Can she register the car of a LGBT citizen? issue an alcohol license for a gay bar? deny voter registration to LGBTs? register the deed of a same sex couple's house?

I wish the Federal judge would grow some and appoint someone as Acting Clerk or new Clerk because she has proven herself unable AND unwilling to do her job. It's within his power to make an appointment if there is a vacancy. I'd say that position is vacant.

The Kentucky Lady was jailed for standing up for her Religious Beliefs while some say she is not obeying the law.

Obama is not obeying the law on immigration amongst many others.

Why isn’t Obama in jail?

Well that was typically disgusting as most of luke's tend to be.

As for muledouche puking forth "The Kentucky Lady was jailed for standing up for her Religious Beliefs" he got it wrong (as always).

She was jailed for not following the law of the land.

She was forcing HER beliefs on those who wanted a license that she was personally opposed to.

Her idea of religious "law" superseding secular law falls right in line with the taliban, isis and worm food osama bin laden.

Nice try, muledouche.

Religious extremist nutjobs of a feather flock together.

Hysterical that the out of touch clownservatives like mike huckabee support her, just proving how unelectable they are.

Because, as President of the United States, he has the legal power, called Executive Authority, to enact the immigration law. The clerk, doesn't have any legal authority.

I was trying to find a radio broadcast of a Ranger's game the other night and ran across a show called "The Wells Report." Their take was similar to Mule's, and the vile rhetoric they were espousing around it was shocking, all couched under the guise of "religion." So many people I know in and out of the church have taken political stance and called it religion I find it disheartening. I must have a completely different Bible. When you have concealed carry classes being held at your church, pastors calling for political action instead of spiritual renewal, and following the basic tenets of The Beatitudes is referred to as "evil" by religious leaders it may be time to hunker down and prepare to ride out the storm. There is one coming.

“Having Kim Davis in federal custody removes all doubt of the criminalization of Christianity in our country,” Mr. Huckabee said in a statement issued Friday. “What a world, where Hillary Clinton isn’t in jail but Kim Davis is.”

I guess Huckabee thinks it's OK to take an oath to uphold the law and then do so selectively once in office.

I'm not shocked that there are hate-filled religious radio shows, I'm shocked that a CHURCH offers concealed carry classes. So much for a place of peace.
