Oregon shooting: Initial reports of 10 dead at Umpqua Community College

(CNN) - Preliminary information indicates 10 people were killed and more than 20 others injured in a shooting at Oregon's Umpqua Community College on Thursday, said Oregon State Police spokesman Bill Fugate.

Douglas County Commissioner Chris Boice told CNN that the shooter is in custody. It was not immediately clear whether the shooter was injured.

Earlier, authorities told had said they were responding to reports of an active shooter at the Roseburg college campus.

Roseburg is a city of about 22,000 people located about 70 miles south of Eugene, Oregon, and some 180 miles south of Portland.

This marks the 45th mass shooting in America in 2015. Also the 19th school shooting. But let's do nothing.

1.) "45th mass shooting"

- What exactly do you consider a mass-muder?

2.) "But let's do nothing"

- What specifically do you propose be done?

1. It is clearly defined and explained at the link I provided.

2. Whatever would piss you off the most, let's try that.

I think we should force the good law-abiding citizens to carry guns, so they can stop the bad ones. If the good guys don't want the responsibility of carrying and shooting people, well then THEY are the real problem.

Let me guess. More gun control laws?

As per usual, Obama is already out there urging this course of action and doing so before
he has certain facts at his disposal. At the present time, it is unknown how the gun was
obtained. It could have been stolen from a legal gun owner for all he knows.

How can he continue to make these proclamations without facts, ultimately be proven wrong,
yet continue to make judgments without facts?

13 kids are dead, and you care most about tearing down the President. You offer nothing except vitriole. Quite sad to see.

Even sadder, he continues to tear himself down.

Hopefully for the first time, the shooters Identity will not be revealed by the media and face plastered all over television for the next two weeks. Time to make that change IMO.

Well, strike that. FOX just gave out the name. Bast*rds.

But I thought Obama was a fool for jumping to conclusions? There were news reports saying he was 21 years old, then 26 years old, now reports he is anti-Christian.....but that one is true! Color me surprised.

"This is a political choice that we make to allow this to happen every few months in America. We collectively are answerable to those families who lose their loves ones because of our inaction. When Americans are killed in mine disasters, we work to make mines safer. When Americans are killed in floods and hurricanes, we make communities safer. When roads are unsafe, we fix them to reduce auto fatalities. We have seatbelt laws because we know it safes lives. The notion that gun violence is somehow different—that our freedom and our Constitution prohibits any modest regulation of how we use a deadly weapon, when there are law-abiding gun owners all across the country who could hunt, and protect their families, and do everything they do under such regulations—doesn't make sense." —President Obama on the shooting in Roseburg, Oregon:

Those who elect to do nothing in the name of preservation of the 2nd amendment, are a major part of the problem.

Don't be. Those details have been confirmed. Still unconfirmed is how the shooter ascertained the firearm, but this seems to be of no interest to Mr. Obama.

We don't know how the weapon was obtained or even if any laws were broken. The gun could have been stolen from it's legal owner for all he knows. Never mind that though, all Obama knows is that we should go along with his gun control agenda.

Wow. No interest to Obama? You get that in a memo? Maybe one of the grieving parents let you in on the secret?

I'm so tired of the Republican Party. Pro life for the fetus so they can get just old enough so we can rob them of a full life. F*cking disgusting.

There is no answer to the gun problem, right alloak? The 2nd Amendment trumps those kids' lives does it?

The worst part of it is I'm really feeling nothing other fatigue. I don't care about the victims. I don't care about the shooter. I don't care about Obama or the Congress. Its just TV.

So says you...and I disagree. The only "major part of the problem" are the idiots who commit these shootings

"We have a Congress that explicitly blocks us from even collecting data on how we could potentially prevent gun deaths."

Gun control agenda.......if that's not trolling then I don't know what is. Obama has done jack sh*t on gun control. What country are you living in? You care more about making Obama look bad than the actual topic of the post.

Obviously it's my opinion BigV. The only reason to point out something so obvious is to pick some sort of argument. No thanks. I'd rather figure out a way to prevent irresponsible people from getting guns. You may say it's impossible, but I say it's not. And it's a cause worth fighting for. Those who vote to do nothing are scum and a big part of the problem.

More mass shootings in seven years of his Presidency than any other time period prior. I'd say that's a failed agenda.

No one is going to go take anyone's guns away.

No one is going to have someone take their guns from them.

The populace has quietly accepted death by gun massacre as an acceptable risk in our society.

That's it.

"...There are millions and millions of sick people all over the world...

"You're going to have these things happen and it's a horrible thing to behold, horrible. It's not politically correct to say that, but you're going to have difficulty and that will be for the next million years, there's going to be difficulty and people are going to slip through the cracks. What are you going to do, institutionalize everybody..."

"...It's awfully hard to put somebody in an institution for the rest of their lives based on the fact that he looks like he could be a problem."

Donald Trump, this morning

Everybody just gotta deal with it...

The politicians are dispicable, but it's the citizens that really deserve part of the blame for accepting it. Too many people agree with Trump, the NRA, and the Tea Partiers. They are fooled into believing the 2nd amendment brainwash campaign. We have tough laws for everything, but the NRA has done a great job at communicating their propaganda to the weak-minded sheep who stock the shed with guns and ammo just to feel tough and manly, making them believe it's about rights, rather than protecting innocent Americans. Why don't these same pro-gun people rally against the DMV? Isn't it the same "violation of your rights"? Please. You are being duped - the gun manufactures want profit, and they have you fools believing it's about your rights.

Sadly that is exactly what it has become. Just another acceptable weekly happening in America. Time to admit that we aren't quite as civilized a society as we claim to be. We are one of the most if not the most un civilized of civilized countries. More guns than people. That is a major problem but the gun industry is huge business in America and gun owners never have enough weapons. Their pathetic answer is always the same, we need more guns. Maybe when there are three guns for every person and one of these things happen every other day instead of every other week they will start to understand. Geeeeeeeeshhhh!!!!! Far too easy to buy guns in this country! Plain and simple.

1. Should we keep passing more and more laws until nothing bad ever happens and life is perfect?

2. Should we realize that life will always carry some risk, bad things are going to happen, and life will never be perfect?

Keeping the necessary trade-offs in mind, I'll gladly opt for #2.

Once again, we have a boy/man with a mental illness (he attended a school for kids w/all kinds of physical and mental health issues) and what does his mother do? She teaches him to shoot! CA neighbors and a shooting range representative confirmed that the two had large weapon cases and went for target practice. If your kid is unstable, you don't put a gun in his hands.

As did Adam Lanza's mother.

As did Dylann Roof's family.

Wonder if you will feel that way if one of your loved is gunned down senselessly in a trade off for gun rights.

When a whole school yard of children were murdered and we did nothing about it was the realization that we covet our weapons more than our children....

If a school yard of children being killed doesn't make a change I don't see how any other event will

sad day and no were are not a civilized country at all....we just dress up the part but we don't walk the walk
