The Republicans in Congress face a dilemma. Support the President and lose your next election or don't and win your next election. How do you figure that's going to shake out?
Do you really think members of Congress are worried about re-election? Isn't it, for the vast majority of sitting "Members" just a formality? In November of 2014 386 incumbents of the House ran and 373 won. That's almost 96%.
You sure that's not functional? If a sitting President was able to dictate 100% passage of anything he could possibly want, that would be dysfunctional.
The system is working precisely the way it was set up to operate, yet some folks are still not happy.
I'm 100% sure that isn't functional. Your spin is Orwellian. Congress is elected to govern, to create laws, to pay bills. This bunch of bums spend more time on vacation and golfing than Obama has even dreamed of spending. The rest of their time they spend raising money for their next big coronation.
Happy? Not a chance. I'm disgusted by that huge steaming pile of welfare excrement we call Congress.

You should check your history Fujirich as Reagan and Bush II issued far more executive orders then Obama has to date. Reagan (381), Bush II (291) and Obama (194 as of 11/21/14) So does that mean they were "imperial Presidents" as well?
It's not the number of executive orders that's important, it's the scope. This amnesty order
isn't like re-naming an airport.
The order in question isn't all that different in scope than previous executive orders that dealt with immigration from several previous presidents, including Reagan. The difference is today's political climate (an that it is Obama).

Saint reagan and h.w. bush gave amnesty to millions of illegals and not even a whimper from "the right" how soon the republiklowns forget........ http://www.businessinsider.com/reagan-and-bush-made-immigration-executive-orders-2014-11
And I didn't agree with it then. I still don't agree that people are citizens of the US just because they were born a feet inside the border illegally.

It's not the number of executive orders that's important, it's the scope. This amnesty order
isn't like re-naming an airport.
LOL! You're hilarious. Did you really think that statement would go unchallenged? Let's looks at Reagan's Executive Orders from 1981:

Note this is only 1981. Not an airport re-naming among them Alloak. Your comment was pretty disingenuous. Or was it just lazy?

Saint reagan and h.w. bush gave amnesty to millions of illegals and not even a whimper from "the right" how soon the republiklowns forget........ http://www.businessinsider.com/reagan-and-bush-made-immigration-executive-orders-2014-11
And I didn't agree with it then. I still don't agree that people are citizens of the US just because they were born a feet inside the border illegally.
Then I guess it's a good thing that Obama's order is not amnesty and doesn't provide citizenship to anyone.

Due to the state of our dysfunctional Congress, and I criticize both parties, this is one of the only means for a sitting President to get any meaningful legislation enacted IMHO.
You sure that's not functional? If a sitting President was able to dictate 100% passage of anything he could possibly want, that would be dysfunctional.
The system is working precisely the way it was set up to operate, yet some folks are still not happy.
Only "some" people are not happy? According Gallup, congress started then year with a meager 16% approval rating (compare to Obama's approval rating which is currently at 47%). And according to Rasmussen, at the end of 2014 only 7% of likely voters think the current congress is doing a good or excellent job. So I am sitting here trying to figure if you seriously believe this or are just being a contrarian because not only it is a minority opinion, it is an EXTREME minority opinion.
You have presented this point of view a number of times, and it is no less baffling to me now than it was the first time.

It's not the number of executive orders that's important, it's the scope. This amnesty order
isn't like re-naming an airport.LOL! You're hilarious. Did you really think that statement would go unchallenged? Let's looks at Reagan's Executive Orders from 1981:

Note this is only 1981. Not an airport re-naming among them Alloak. Your comment was pretty disingenuous. Or was it just lazy?

You forgot to mention the Ronald Reagan is easily the greatest President of the modern era and obama is by far the worst.
Also, President Reagan got the job done with a democrat Congress.

It's not the number of executive orders that's important, it's the scope. This amnesty order
isn't like re-naming an airport.LOL! You're hilarious. Did you really think that statement would go unchallenged? Let's looks at Reagan's Executive Orders from 1981:

You forgot to mention the Ronald Reagan is easily the greatest President of the modern era and obama is by far the worst.
Also, President Reagan got the job done with a democrat Congress.
Not according to a poll of 238 Presidential scholars
And scholars who study this type of thing rank Clinton above Reagan but nice try.

You forgot to mention the Ronald Reagan is easily the greatest President of the modern era and obama is by far the worst.
You mean the best criminal, arms to Iran trading, Terrorist supporting, greatest President? Right?
Now that you qualify your statement I understand.
In 1985, while Iran and Iraq were at war, Iran made a secret request to buy weapons from the United States. McFarlane sought Reagan's approval, in spite of the embargo against selling arms to Iran. McFarlane explained that the sale of arms would not only improve U.S. relations with Iran, but might in turn lead to improved relations with Lebanon, increasing U.S. influence in the troubled Middle East. Reagan was driven by a different obsession. He had become frustrated at his inability to secure the release of the seven American hostages being held by Iranian terrorists in Lebanon. As president, Reagan felt that "he had the duty to bring those Americans home," and he convinced himself that he was not negotiating with terrorists. While shipping arms to Iran violated the embargo, dealing with terrorists violated Reagan's campaign promise never to do so. Reagan had always been admired for his honesty.

Respondents are dissatisfied with government in general, make sense? Democrats love to trot out the meaningless approval number of Congress as a body. (as if Congress is ever popular)
Respondents might also give lawyers as a whole a low approval rating, but they like their own lawyer. Same goes for Congressmen. Post the approval numbers of each Congressman individually and that might be something with enough meaning to consider.

Your ignoring that this is the most unpopular Congress ever. How is that meaningless?
You know what? I understand. You think Congress is doing a great job. Good on ya! That's your opinion and your entitled to that opinion. I'm glad the United States is doing what you think they should do. I wish I could ignore the facts and blindly love my government.
Personally I'll continue to vote against the incumbents.

Alloak being dismissive of facts that don't tote the conservative line? Say it aint so!! 😉
Then truth is that congress has never had an approval rating as low as it was at the end 2014. Never. When Obama took office it was in the mid-20s...not very good but still significantly better than it is now. It actually went up into the mid and high 30s around the time that the ACA passed (must be a coincidence) but has been dropping since and hasn't been out of the teens since 2011. Will be interesting to see if the numbers go up now that the GOP controls both houses. Anyone want to set the over/under on Congress approval rating at the end of 2015?

Approvals for Congress have dropped since Pelosi left the Speaker's office and the GOP took control of the House.
So what do you predict the approval rating for Congress will be at the end of 2015 after a year of full GOP control? And will it be higher or lower than the President's?
[Edited on 2/18/2015 by gondicar]

If it were a Republican, the cries of an "imperial presidency" would be deafening, and ghosts of Nixon would paraded in every speech and comment against.
I made many comments re:imperial presidency several years ago when a different man was in office, and I vividly recall you giving that guy the benefit of the doubt. Everything's so situational, innit?

Elections do have consequences and We The People won!
Heheheheheh! What do you think you won? Can you give us a rundown of the spoils of your victory Muleman? Another 40 acres perhaps?
How will you life change now that the Republicans "control" both Houses of Congress?

If it is racist when one person uses it, it is racist when everyone uses it. You don't get to decide nuance. Not that you know what the word means.

[Edited on 2/18/2015 by gondicar]Respondents are dissatisfied with government in general, make sense? Democrats love to trot out the meaningless approval number of Congress as a body. (as if Congress is ever popular)
Respondents might also give lawyers as a whole a low approval rating, but they like their own lawyer. Same goes for Congressmen. Post the approval numbers of each Congressman individually and that might be something with enough meaning to consider.
Alloak being dismissive of facts that don't tote the conservative line? Say it aint so!! 😉
You're totally missing the point.

A member of Congress on his own accomplishes very little. Congress acts as a unit in passing or rejecting legislation. as such, the approval rating of Congress as a whole is far more important than the approval rating of each individual member.

Here's the only poll that matters -- The Ballot Box. If so many people are dissatisfied
with Congress, a quick look back at the mid-terms would indicate that Democrats are the
ones that got punished for it, not the "obstructionists."
Weird.

People vote for their Congressman or Senator based on their own criteria. That may be a preference of party, the candidates history or popularity or performance in elected office. Approval rating is based on the performance of Congress as a whole. They are not comparable. When the day comes that we vote for every member of Congress your point would have some validity. Obviously, that will never happen.

No, I'm not. I'm just making a different one.

"Another 40 acres perhaps"
A racist statement.
Your true nature finally comes out.
That certainly wasn't my intent Muleman. I'm sorry to have offended. I didn't even know you were black.

Your comment was pretty disingenuous. Or was it just lazy?
Neither. It was anecdotal.
How can it be anecdotal if none of Reagan's Executive Orders named an Airport?
You made this statement: "It's not the number of executive orders that's important, it's the scope. This amnesty order
isn't like re-naming an airport."
How is that anecdotal?

Elections do have consequences and We The People won!
Heheheheheh! What do you think you won? Can you give us a rundown of the spoils of your victory Muleman? Another 40 acres perhaps?
How will you life change now that the Republicans "control" both Houses of Congress?
Now for some facts about that "40 acres" thing.
40 acres and a mule is attributed, but never proven, to William T. Sherman as he, I was about to say marched-but more accurately, burned-his way through Ga.
There were a large number of former slaves following the army wanting to be fed, housed, clothed, and protected by them. They expected that the ones who had "freed" them would take care of them. They followed in such a number that one of his commanders had a bridge destroyed so that the "freed" slaves could no longer follow. Many of them were afraid of being left behind and drowned trying to swim across the river.
January 16, 1865, Sherman directed Special Field Order No. 16. It directed that "abandoned rice plantations from the sea to 30 miles inward be reserved and set apart for the settlement of the freed slaves in the region.
Each family shall have a lot of no less than 40 acres of tillable land."
While there was no mention of mules, General Rufus Saxton, who was put in charge of administrating the order, issued surplus mules to some families.
The Special Field Order was rescinded by President Johnson as landowners swore an oath of allegiance back to the Union and were pardoned.
Note: If you wonder why "freed" is used in the post several times, many times former slaves were actually run out of their homes at night and told they were free and could not return. Check out the entries in the book series "The War of Rebellion, A Compilation Of The Official Records Of The Union And Confederate Armies"
They were " Published Pursuant To Act Of Congress Approved June 16, 1880.

How about let's cut through the BS and establish the fact that Obama himself insisted no
less than a dozen times that he didn't have the authority to do what he ended up doing, or
trying to do. It's on tape! He's the leader of the party you support. Why is that not
good enough?
You people are amazing.
