42 years is a long time, just sayin'

Jobless claims match 42-year low
WASHINGTON (MarketWatch) — The number of Americans who applied for unemployment benefits in early October matched a 42-year low, showing that most companies are sticking to current staff levels even though they’ve cut back on hiring.

Initial jobless claims in the period running from Oct. 4 to Oct. 10 declined by 7,000 to a seasonally adjusted 255,000, the government said Thursday.

New claims are registered when a person loses a job and applies for unemployment benefits. Weekly claims settled below the key 300,000 benchmark in late February and they’ve been hovering near the lowest level since 1973 for the past three months.

The average of initial claims over the past month, meanwhile, dropped by 2,250 to 265,000. That’s also a 42-year low. The four-week average smooths out fluctuations in the volatile weekly report and is seen as a more accurate predictor of labor-market trends.

Layoffs have remained unusually low even as the pace of hiring in the U.S. has slowed sharply since the end of July. Most firms are experiencing stable demand for their goods and services and they see little reason to slim down.

In the week ended Oct. 3, continuing jobless claims sank by 50,000 to 2.16 million to mark the lowest level in 15 years. These claims reflect people already receiving checks whose applications for benefits were previously accepted.

Everyone already knows that when there's a Democrat in the White House these numbers are manipulated.

I trust any and all economic numbers coming from the government. The govt has it's problems, but telling the truth isn't one of them!

In a month or two look for a revision. It never fails.

Food Stamp usage- Record High during Obama

People dropped out of the workforce- Record High during Obama

People underemployed- Record High under Obama

People working two jobs- Probably a record high during Obama

Unemployment number- under 6 %

Unemployment claims- lowest in decades

Seriously, look around and see that things are not so rosy.

Yet in the face of this, things are booming in Washington DC and the surrounding areas like never before. Real estate valuations, per capita income, total net worth, you name it. So let's keep growing the federal government while much of the rest of the country treads water or regresses. The exact opposite should be true. Where's the income inequality, shrinking middle class outcry with this scenario? Strangely, the loudest voices wish to further enrich DC. Figure that one out.
