I know, not really news, but this really caught my eye. I am intentionally leaving out the issue he is talking about, because it is the general philosophy and mindset in this quote that bothers me more than the specifics of the issue he was talking about.

"Unless I get a new version of the scriptures, it's really not my place to say, OK, I'm just going to evolve," Huckabee said.

That is just such a sad way to live. What a limited view of the world. There is only one source of knowledge and information, and it never changes. It isn't your "place" to change and grow as a human being unless it is sanctioned by the authority of the Church.

As they say on talk radio, I'll hang up and listen and see what you guys have to say about it.

Also as bizarre was his equating being gay as the same as being a drinker or swearing.

WTF?

Leave the looney preachers on TV, not in government office.

He steps in it all the time. See attachment below for just one recent example:

The scary thing is this joker was actually elected Governor and won Iowa in the GOP primaries in 2008.

I hope he does run as it will be fun to see him in the GOP debates.

Don't rile him up or he might hatch a terror plot. You know those Christians.

His views are pretty terrifying if you ask me. Glad he is easy to ignore.

Um, ok...whatever you say. Not sure why we are talking about terror plots here.

Am I the only person who has zero fear of terrorist attacks anymore? I'm way more concerned about some random pissed off yahoo with a gun, but truth be told I'm not that affraid of that either.

The republican party would be much better off if they just skipped iowa. They love them some bible thumpers out there while they enjoy their steak-frys. It gives false hope to ass clowns like Huckabee and Santourm to think they represent the Republican party majority with their social engineering propaganda.

How many of the candidates will say that businesses and corporations don't create jobs? None of them are likely to top that one.

Nobody of any significance if you believe the polls. Good article on her possible opponents

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/07/13/2016-democratic-contenders_n_5579531.html

Elizabeth Warren would give her a run for her money but she claims she will not run and IMHO Hillary has a better chance to win in 2016 as Warren may be too far to the left for most Americans.

Personally I would rather see her stay in the Senate as she is doing some great things there.

The fact that the people of arkansas elected, and reelected a feeble minded butt-plug like "hackabee" to be governor of their state, doesn't say much for them. 😛

Wait, aren't these the same people who elected Clinton Governor? 😛

I thought he was leaning up against, talking on the phone to some other world leader, and eating pizza while he was being "administered" to.

That man could multi-task.

I thought Iowa was backward until I moved there. I spent a little more than three years in Iowa City. It was one of the most progressive places I've lived.

Do you know Iowa was the first state to legalize interracial marriage? They were also the first state to legalize gay marriage.

For Iowa's progressive record they turn around & elect Steve King to Congress, and he has been there since 2003 I mean... he's one backwards thinking / narrow minded person. Seems to be a dichotomy between the progressive things you posted and who they elect. Maybe it's just his district in that part of the state that is wowed by his mindset?

Clinton was a rhodes scholar, graduated from Yale university law school and was a two term president, that presided over the biggest peace time economic expansion in U.S. history. Huckabee graduated from Ouachita baptist university 😛 and has a stupid show on fox. I guess there are some smart people in arkansas if they elected Clinton governor.

Also the makeup and beliefs of the electorate change over time. This may be a classic case.

No I didn't know that because it is clearly incorrect.

I would think gerrymandered districts would be more likely.

Massachusetts was the first state to legalize same sex marriage.

California was the first state to legalize interracial marriage.

I stand corrected. It was the fourth for gay marriage and 2nd for interracial marriage (a century before the country as a whole).

Still I found Iowa City to be a progressive place. Of course it is a college town. It has a great arts scene and local food scene and seemed to be populated with a lot of critical thinking folks. They sold alcohol on Sundays and didn't shut down the liquor stores on election day.

I can't explain King or Grassley. Tom Harkin seemed pretty liberal minded.

I think Grassley gets a lot of support because he spearheaded the ethanol in gas movement making Iowa farmers millions.

It seemed that during the elections the big farms had signs up that supported Republicans and the middle class neighborhoods supported Democrats.

I'll maintain that I didn't meet a single bible thumping Iowan. And most of the Iowans I met would prefer morels to steak fries.

But hey... that's just my experience.

I only was correcting the facts of that not your basic point. I have no basis to disagree with you finding it a progressive place from your own experience.

No worries! In fact - thanks! I know I've made this statement in the past and it is clearly wrong.

I wish I knew why I believed it. I was there when it happened. It seems I'd be more cognizant of current events.

Oh well. Won't make that mistake again. 😉

"Unless I get a new version of the scriptures, it's really not my place to say, OK, I'm just going to evolve," Huckabee said.

What he means is that he is ok with evolving on many issues in the scriptures, but he is choosing not to evolve on the gay marriage issue.

As someone who grew up in the midwest (Wisconsin), I find it funny how people on the coasts perceive the region (or totally can't locate any state west of Pennsylvania on a map*). Just because it is largely bucolic, east coasters tend to assume it is backwards and staunchly republican, when much of it is largely progressive largely due to the rural farm culture outside of the urban areas. A lot of those independent farmers needed government subsidies to survive through out the 20th century. Iowa, Minnesota, and Wisconsin are traditionally pretty liberal (well, pre-Shit Walker WI anyways) and Illinois, Michigan, and Ohio are traditionally union-heavy. Every state has its fair share of mega-churches, but anywhere the first caucus is held, the Republican candidates are going to court the very right - they don't worry about the middle until after the nomination.

*a friend of mine who grew up just outside of NYC, a college graduate, was wondering if I was going to "swing by" Seattle, WA after a visit to Wisconsin. Because they are so close.
