And anyone who thought that once they had suffered a horrendous and embarrassing loss, the Democrat/Media Complex was going to stop being the Democrat/Media Complex was equally foolish. They are both who and what they are, which is why on the second day of the Trump administration, we saw this unfold:
•Media absurdly runs side-by-side crowd photos of the Trump Inauguration and the Obama Inauguration just to show Obama had more people there.
•Trump dispatches Press Secretary Sean Spicer to go out and lie about the size of the crowd at the previous day’s inauguration.
•Media becomes apoplectic at Spicer’s obvious falsehood, pretending that this kind of deception has never been seen before in a presidential press secretary.
Yawn. Who cares? Oh, don’t get me wrong. Of course it’s not encouraging that the new administration is willing to lie about something so trivial and something so verifiably false. But the hysteria is transparent and fake. And while thinking they are demonstrating to Americans how they are serious about doing their jobs, all the press is doing by freaking out about this is demonstrating to Americans that the only job the press are serious about is continuing to be the propaganda arm of the Democrat Party.
Let’s unpack this situation with some honesty, shall we?
First, it’s pretty clear that Obama’s inauguration had a larger crowd. Why does that matter? I mean, yes, I get why it matters to fanboys on Twitter who think that somehow that means bragging rights or a tally mark on the “My President Is Cooler Than Yours” internet scoreboard. But why would this ever come up in a news report by a reputable news organization? Is this standard operating procedure for inaugural coverage by the media? Or was it a petty and juvenile move by a bitterly partisan press? The answer is obvious. And it was obvious that at least the NY Times used pictures from different time periods (their Trump pic was taken as crowds were still coming in). There’s just no legitimate journalistic purpose in this angle. None.
Second, why would a dignified presidential administration ever care about responding to this? And if you just can’t be satisfied that you beat this Democrat/Media Complex who worked so hard for Hillary, and that you can now go to work obliterating the legacy of their cherished, chosen one, why would you ever lie about something that everyone can see? If you feel the need to spin it, do it by saying you didn’t pay to bus people in like leftwing groups did for Obama. Say that your support came from blue-collar folks who can’t afford to make the trip. Say something that can’t be easily demonstrated as a blatant lie.
Finally, the media’s enraged reaction to the Trump lie was transparently exaggerated to the point of embarrassment. The tweets and reports and headlines were written as though we’ve never seen an administration be dishonest; that we were in uncharted territory as a civilization. Seriously.

I don’t mind – in fact, I kind of appreciate – an antagonistic relationship between the government and the press. That’s as it should be. But the pettiness and stupidity is going to cause American confidence in both to be non-existent. That’s not a good thing for the republic

This analysis is very one sided. Fox News draws more viewers than any other network and Fox is very pro-right in its coverage and analysis. Plus the right has the support of much of Talk Radio. For a period of six months Trump did almost all his interviews with Fox News or on Talk Radio. Fox News is clearly the mouthpiece or propaganda arm of the Republican Party. And since the Republicans have total political control of the state, Fox News is the official Media Outlet for the country.
Trump really does not want Real News or a free press. Trump in a very authoritarian way wants total control of the news. He basically wants television and the paper press to reflect his views and to exalt over his daily achievements no matter how trivial they are. I personally think Trump is less interested in the country then he is in promoting himself.
The major debate among Republicans now is when did Trump's narcissism begin. Are the narcissism and self-aggrandizement a ploy left over from the campaign and Trump has yet to adapt to the task of governing? In almost every interview Republicans talk about waiting for the pivot. Republicans now pay more homage to the expected pivot then they do to the after life.
The main problem with this view is that it assumes Trump's narcissism and self-aggrandizement are transitory and conquerable with time. To hang on to this view one has to ignore the pu$$y talk tape, or believe it is the type of locker room banter all sixty five year old men engage in. Anyway the tape precedes the campaign and so the campaign is not the logical first step on the route to the pivot. What has happened is the pivot has been fetishsized by Republicans and the reason for this is that if they acknowledge any kind of permanence in Trump's behavior, they will have to concede it all began in the crib and there will never be a pivot.
Trump is a child. This is not a calculated game between Trump, as a frustrated politician, and the media. Trump uses the media to claim victimhood and this allows him to stand shoulder to shoulder with blue collar workers who are real victims. Trump, at CIA headquarters, revealed how he uses the press as a trope when he claimed his fight with the intelligence community was concocted by the media. Everyone outside of the Trump people, who were in the room providing the thunderous claps, knew this was bull$hit and that the media was set up. It just may have occurred to the majority of them that this was not the first time the media was unfairly being flogged by Trump.
CNN has panels on its news shows that have both Left and Right wing commentators. They constantly fact check each other in real time. The reason the Left usually wins is the Right wing people are forced to deal with statements by Trump that are clearly false. Trump is president and he is not supposed to lie to the public. The press has a duty to expose lies, misrepresentations or distortions when they occur. If Trump feels demoralized when his lies are exposed he should make a plan to get his info checked and to stop lying. The press is not going to give up. Each outlet has hired more journalists to investigate Trump's business dealings and his taxes.
