I just got drug tested two weeks ago by two different companies, my current employer and a prospective employer. Marijuana is one of the drugs they are looking for. I won't say how I did it, but I passed. This is a condition of employment; if I tested positive for marijuana, I would no longer be an employee.

So this morning over breakfast I opened my copy of the San Jose free weekly paper, The Metro. It's their annual "Bars and Clubs" issue. Here's a sample:

O'Malley's Sports Pub
2135 Old Middlefield Way, Mountain View

"This authentic Irish watering hole forgoes the fancy apps and entrees and focuses on the brews. They offer beer flights, and customers can select 4 out of 30 rotating taps that pour everything from crisp Stella Artois apple cider to the 'Holy Grail for Hopheads,' 120 Minute, which clocks between 15-20 percent alcohol. Thursday is Karaoke night and Friday and Saturday feature live rock or blues music."

Do you know what the alcohol content of a Budweiser is? Around 3.5%. But come on in here peeps, get as slammed as you want by swilling something FIVE times as potent as a Bud..........then get in your car and drive home. Who cares? After all, drinking beer is legal.

I'm not promoting a return to Prohibition, but I think I've said enough to get my point across. I'll quote George Orwell once again: "By a lack of understanding you remain sane."

We are living in the society George Orwell predicted in 1984. It is scary. Cameras are everywhere; bloodtests are everywhere. Babe Ruth would not have liked it
