Las Vegas Shooting More Than 50 Dead
https://www.nytimes.com/2017/10/02/us/las-vegas-shooting-live-updates.html
Everyone has a plan, till you get punched in the face,
I'm sadder than sad this morning......sadder than I can remember in quite some time. I remember just two weeks ago going to a Giants game. The security person THOROUGHLY checked my backpack before I was able to go in. I thanked him. "I feel much safer because you're here."
Now you can't go to a country music Festival without worrying about being killed. And how could it possibly have been stopped? The assh*le was in a 32nd floor room at Mandalay Bay hotel across the street.
My prayers go out to all families of the over 50 who are dead and the many (400 or so) struggling in hospitals.
America, where have you gone??
There are no words. I don't have kids, I don't know how parents explain this kind of irrational insanity.
So long as there are so many people who value to right to own deadly slaughter toys over life, this will happen again.
Listened to the audio of the shooting makes me wonder if he had illegally converted his rifles to auto-fire.
This is America. This is what we are. It would be nice to think we are better than this, but we are not. All Americans and politicians allowed this to happen. As our times drastically changed over the past few decades, we failed to react accordingly. This is the end result. We are a deeply flawed people in a deeply flawed country.
This is just terrible. 58 confirmed dead. I imagine that number will sadly grow.
The thing I haven't heard about this that confuses me is how a person would be able to get 10 or 11 (or whatever the number was) of assault rifles into a big casino. That puzzles me.
Everything in Moderation. Including Moderation.
Sick
Something must be done about guns.

Yeah...they want to make silencers legal....We did nothing when 20+ children were murdered I can only hope there will be a breaking point but there seem to be a see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil attitude from those who make the decisions to address the problem

If you take away guns from law abiding citizens, others will still obtain and use them in nefarious ways. Drinking did not stop during prohibition, violence will not stop if the 'take away all the gun' people have their way. Did you know in Japan the police do not carry guns? They don't need to, people fight using martial arts or knives. So if you took away all the guns and people in this country still want to do public injury events they will just use something else like ied's.

Put them in something wide and long - like guitar cases, sporting equipment (like a golf bag, just throw in some regular clubs for camoflage), you could even put them interspersed amount clothing in carry on garment type bags, even camera/technical equipment (tell anyone who asks, you got you tripods in there), if you are middle eastern, you could stash them in rolled up carpets (cut shorter) say they are swatches and you are here for a convention. What about Lacrosse, Hockey? Do they have sacks for those sticks, shove in some of those, put 'em in a tent that you have wrapped up, after Nevada you are going camping in the desert. It could literally be anything. Which is why people are specially trained to look for things that weapons could be in. Regular hotel people no, they are not looking for that.

There is so much good in the world and in our country, so many people that care and do for eachother...yet there is this persistent evil that shows it's ugly head and inflicts pain and suffering and death. It's not new, one of the first things I thought of was Charles Whitman shooting from a tall building 50 years ago. But is there more of it now, or do we have more defective people?
I go to a park, concert, sporting event or to a restaurant and I see people enjoying life, with their friends, family or even alone. Then I think, how many of these people fantasize about mass killing? Does the person at the cash register go home and envision their plan for violence against innocent people? Is that person on the bus two rows in front of me thinking about killing all of us?
Incredibly small % of people that are like that. But I wonder what is it inside of these people that want to do things like this?
Very sad, but this won't change anything. A white redneck kills 60 and injures 200 and the narrative is that nothing can be done. If the guy had a middle eastern name we would be banning people from 10 more countries from entering the US. It's the sad reality that it's easy for those in charge to call for "thoughts and prayers" but when it comes down to actually doing anything nobody wants to.

Well, In my opinion, unfortunately, more people means more seriously disturbed people, just numbers. Also easy access to such extremely high powered automatic and semi-automatic weapons will continue to lead to increased carnage..........Peace......joe
My cousin was killed in this shooting and two lifelong friends are in critical condition.
To the people who politicize this tragedy, go F yourselves.
Cain killed Abel with a rock.
It's about the heart,not gun's.
The mentality, morality, common sense, disrespect factor etc in this country has gone to hell.
But by all means,,,take all the gun's away.I am quite sure that will make everything just peachy again.
😛

Only a demented fool would feel that paranoia.
This is America.
Yes it is and we have the collective power to change anything if we desire it enough.
I've an idea, let's take the mentality that thought it was a good idea to wage a war on drugs and turn that energy on illegal possession of firearms. With so many people in Prison for mere usage or for having drugs on their person, seems like such a waste of both manpower and the Judicial system.
Found with a firearm and no license?...Prison. Illegally discharging a weapon? Prison and so on.
We have to change the way we view this issue, more laws are a joke. More testing, screening?...even funnier. Mandatory prison time for anyone found with a gun that is not registered or legally owned.
Tighten the screws.

Very sorry. And I agree with the sentiment as well.

When the heart can fling 1000's of rocks 500 yards and kill many then we can discuss rock control...your argument is senseless. I don't think he could sneak in a catapult into his hotel room.
No one needs an assault weapon. No one needs dozens of them...also no one wants to take your freeking hunting rifle away.
Military grade weapons have no place in a civil public society. They need to be military only!!

Sounds good to me, but I don't think this would've stopped Sandy Hook or Vegas, but who cares? Not me. It's the price of freedom!
persistent evil
Chalking it up to "evil" leaves us in the dark and helpless, cowering in fear of the unexplained. People used to think disease was "evil". Dark age mentality. Things happen for a reason. When people go off the rails it isn't due to "persistent evil". This shooter was a millionaire, supposedly normal though antisocial guy, problem gambler, probably alcoholic, worth looking at the toxicology for SSRI, which seems to be a common trigger for psychotic fugues, keeps showing up in these "senseless" events, done by people who nobody would dream would do such a thing.

Actions speak louder than words. Our Legislators actions say we love our gun more than we love our children or the innocent lives taken.
All US lives take in War 1.3 million US lives lost to gun violence since 1968 1.5 million

This should be our next tourism marketing campaign for the US! Come to America, where its own citizens wonder daily about being slaughtered like sheep by their own and do nothing about it!

Believe me that conversation is being had around the world, at least it is down here in OZ.
