This has to be the stupidest thing I have read in quite awhile.

It is stupid because cruises cost no less than $548 per person and a welfare recipient even in NY only gets $150 personal allowance as spending. They most certainly will not be calling a cruise line to book a trip.

The other thing is should govt. tell people, any people what they can do with their money welfare or otherwise? If they save up for awhile and want to get something nice for themselves, why are they not allowed to do that? Why should the govt. be involved. What are they going to do, demand ID to see if someone is on welfare if they make a cash purchase or just do away with cash purchases so that the govt. can track what everyone does with every penny they receive from their jobs or welfare.

Does this mean that the CEOs of the corporations receiving tax breaks and subsidies are going to be restricted to their own yachts for cruises?

There's a Jon Stewart video in this link that's worth a watch on the topic

you're blaming the government but for the wrong reason.

this is pretty sick and twisted, and just as bad as requiring drug testing in order to qualify for welfare. I'll never understand those that demonize the poor. It seems like they have to make a statement or something.....by demonizing the poor, it's a way to declare to your peers that you are successful. Pretty sad.

Pretty willing to bet this is a knee jerk reaction to the story from England about the family with a ton of kids who had no qualms about going on vacation to Vegas on the assistance money they get.
