Nothing is over going to "be done" about guns in America. Ever.

No matter what happens, the extremes on both ends of the issue cancel each other out, and the public will move on to the next Emergency of the Day.

Nothing is going to change. Ever.

That's an easy decision for me. I'd much rather live in a country with many freedoms and the
ease of obtaining a weapon over a "safer" country where firearms are scarce among the public
.....but so are the freedoms. I realize there is a possibility of getting gunned down by a crazed
gunman but I'll opt for this choice 100%.

Agreed. Long live the Constitution.

Right on!!!

Freedom comes with a price, and maybe a little "danger" mixed in. I might die tomorrow in a
mass shooting, but I still wouldn't trade the life I've had in the USA for anything.

Truly blessed to be born in the GREATEST nation to ever appear on the planet. I'd love for that
nation, along what set us apart for GREATNESS, to be preserved....not transformed.

Many tend to display extremeration. Sort of a cross between taking things to the extreme and exaggeration, if not twisting the meanings of words or phrases to fit their own needs.

Examples....Desire to reign in the powers of the EPA = you want dirty air and dirty water. Favoring strict border control = you hate Mexicans. Global warming skepticism = you don't care about the planet. Belief that women should pay for birth control = you hate women. Cutting the growth rate of the school lunch program = you want to throw starving kids out in the street. Social Security reform = want to throw grandma off a cliff, want seasoned citizens to eat dog food. Favoring traditional marriage = you hate gays. Do not support any given Obama agenda item = you're a racist. Favor a private health care system = they want you to die quickly. - alloak41

So, remember, kids...if you even discuss or even bring up your opinion on the matter of gun sales and distribution, heck, if you even just a little bit lean just slightly left in the smallest way in your political or societal beliefs and you merely say the word "gun," you don't believe in the Constitution and wish to transform the greatest nation in the history of ever.

Extremeration, I heard it's called...and if you are on the red team, you can do it whenever you want.

Are you in agreement with Mr. Obama that America needs to be transformed?

Where did he say America needs to be transformed? Transformed into what? Was it in the same speech in which you said he blamed the gun (but he actually didn't), because for the life of me I can't find it. Maybe you can...the transcript is below so you don't need to hunt for it...

Today, as Americans, we grieve the brutal murder -- a horrific massacre -- of dozens of innocent people. We pray for their families, who are grasping for answers with broken hearts. We stand with the people of Orlando, who have endured a terrible attack on their city. Although it’s still early in the investigation, we know enough to say that this was an act of terror and an act of hate. And as Americans, we are united in grief, in outrage, and in resolve to defend our people.

I just finished a meeting with FBI Director Comey and my homeland security and national security advisors. The FBI is on the scene and leading the investigation, in partnership with local law enforcement. I’ve directed that the full resources of the federal government be made available for this investigation.

We are still learning all the facts. This is an open investigation. We’ve reached no definitive judgment on the precise motivations of the killer. The FBI is appropriately investigating this as an act of terrorism. And I’ve directed that we must spare no effort to determine what -- if any -- inspiration or association this killer may have had with terrorist groups. What is clear is that he was a person filled with hatred. Over the coming days, we’ll uncover why and how this happened, and we will go wherever the facts lead us.

This morning I spoke with my good friend, Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer, and I conveyed the condolences of the entire American people. This could have been any one of our communities. So I told Mayor Dyer that whatever help he and the people of Orlando need -- they are going to get it. As a country, we will be there for the people of Orlando today, tomorrow and for all the days to come.

We also express our profound gratitude to all the police and first responders who rushed into harm’s way. Their courage and professionalism saved lives, and kept the carnage from being even worse. It’s the kind of sacrifice that our law enforcement professionals make every single day for all of us, and we can never thank them enough.

This is an especially heartbreaking day for all our friends -- our fellow Americans -- who are lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender. The shooter targeted a nightclub where people came together to be with friends, to dance and to sing, and to live. The place where they were attacked is more than a nightclub -- it is a place of solidarity and empowerment where people have come together to raise awareness, to speak their minds, and to advocate for their civil rights.

So this is a sobering reminder that attacks on any American -- regardless of race, ethnicity, religion or sexual orientation -- is an attack on all of us and on the fundamental values of equality and dignity that define us as a country. And no act of hate or terror will ever change who we are or the values that make us Americans.

Today marks the most deadly shooting in American history. The shooter was apparently armed with a handgun and a powerful assault rifle. This massacre is therefore a further reminder of how easy it is for someone to get their hands on a weapon that lets them shoot people in a school, or in a house of worship, or a movie theater, or in a nightclub. And we have to decide if that’s the kind of country we want to be. And to actively do nothing is a decision as well.

In the coming hours and days, we’ll learn about the victims of this tragedy. Their names. Their faces. Who they were. The joy that they brought to families and to friends, and the difference that they made in this world. Say a prayer for them and say a prayer for their families -- that God give them the strength to bear the unbearable. And that He give us all the strength to be there for them, and the strength and courage to change. We need to demonstrate that we are defined more -- as a country -- by the way they lived their lives than by the hate of the man who took them from us.

As we go together, we will draw inspiration from heroic and selfless acts -- friends who helped friends, took care of each other and saved lives. In the face of hate and violence, we will love one another. We will not give in to fear or turn against each other. Instead, we will stand united, as Americans, to protect our people, and defend our nation, and to take action against those who threaten us.

May God bless the Americans we lost this morning. May He comfort their families. May God continue to watch over this country that we love. Thank you.

If so, into what?

I'd ask you again to cite where he said that, but since I already know you are more comfortable just making things up and then ignoring who ever calls you on it, here's what he said, and he said it once, as a candidate, in 2008:

"Now, Mizzou, I just have two words for you tonight: five days. Five days. After decades of broken politics in Washington, and eight years of failed policies from George W. Bush, and 21 months of a campaign that's taken us from the rocky coast of Maine to the sunshine of California, we are five days away from fundamentally transforming the United States of America.

"In five days, you can turn the page on policies that put greed and irresponsibility on Wall Street before the hard work and sacrifice of folks on Main Street. In five days, you can choose policies that invest in our middle class, and create new jobs, and grow this economy, so that everyone has a chance to succeed, not just the CEO, but the secretary and janitor, not just the factory owner, but the men and women on the factory floor."

I don't see the word "need," so there you go again making things up.

Bill O'Reilly called Obama out on the phrase during the Super Bowl interview...

O’Reilly: "Mr. President, why do you feel it's necessary to fundamentally transform the nation that has afforded you so much opportunity and success?"

Obama: I don't think we have to fundamentally transform the nation.

O’Reilly: But those are your words.

Obama: I think that what we have to do is make sure that here in America, if you work hard, you can get ahead. Bill, you and I benefitted from this incredible country of ours, in part, because there were good jobs out there that paid a good wage, because you had public schools that functioned well, that we could get scholarships if we didn't come from a wealthy family, in order to go to college.

O’Reilly: Right.

Obama: That, you know, if you worked hard, not only did you have a good job, but you also had decent benefits, decent health care...

O’Reilly: They're cutting me off...

Obama: -- and for a lot of folks, we don't have that. We've got to make sure that we're doing everything we can to expand the middle class...

O’Reilly: All right...

Obama: -- and work hard and people who are working hard can get into the middle class.

O’Reilly: I think -- I -- you know, I know you think maybe we haven't been fair, but I think your heart is in the right place.

About seven months left in the Obama Presidency, so if he's going to fundamentally change the country, he better hurry up.

Most would agree that we are heading in the wrong direction, but I think most would disagree that Trump is the person to fix that. We'll find out in November. If you believe like I do that a big factor in the "wrong track" sentiment is the divisiveness in our society stemming from race, religion, gender, and economic status, compounded by completely disabling discord in Washington, it is hard to see how Trump could improve the situation. Unfortunately Hillary probably won't either, but from observing the campaigns it is clear to me that Trump would likely do more harm.

and is on the wrong track. Just check the right track/wrong track polling if you don't
believe me. We need to get this thing turned around, and fast.

We know what we're getting with Hillary, at least four more years of the "new normal" and
further decline. I'm willing to give Trump a chance. We desperately need to get this thing
turned around.

You said it, not me. Are you in agreement with Mr. Obama that America needs to be transformed?
If so, into what?

I'd ask you again to cite where he said that, but since I already know you are more comfortable just making things up and then ignoring who ever calls you on it

Seriously? I'm almost starting to feel sorry for you. If Obama didn't say this someone was doing the damndest Obama impersonation ever. You really need a citation?

alloak41, I don't get it. You are trying very hard to establish that Obama said America needs to be transformed, yet just a few posts earlier you seem to be saying the same thing citing "right track/wrong track" polling. So what exactly is your point?

You said it, not me. Are you in agreement with Mr. Obama that America needs to be transformed?
If so, into what?

You just cut it off out of the very post where I did cite it...

I'd ask you again to cite where he said that, but since I already know you are more comfortable just making things up and then ignoring who ever calls you on it, here's what he said, and he said it once, as a candidate, in 2008:

quote:

Is it Act Like A Clown Day, Pat?

In other words, this:

Are you in agreement with Mr. Obama that America needs to be transformed?

Is not this...

After decades of broken politics in Washington, and eight years of failed policies from George W. Bush, and 21 months of a campaign that's taken us from the rocky coast of Maine to the sunshine of California, we are five days away from fundamentally transforming the United States of America.

Now, if you ARE going to ignore semantics and believe that is indeed what Obama the Candidate said, and you are still quite willing to hold him accountable for that almost eight years later, why the hesitance to hold accountable anything Trump the Candidate says now?

Thank you.

Not for nuthin' but it is Trump who keeps saying American needs to be transformed, i.e. "make American great again". So do you agree with Mr. Trump that America is not great and therefore needs to be transformed into being great?

Are you saying the "fundamental transformation" of America line is not attributable to
Obama? Are you hallucinating?

What are you talking about? The words "fundamental transformation" are not in the post-Orlando speech that we have been discussing. Are YOU hallucinating?

As for polling data, it seems clear to me that the vast majority of people don't think Trump is up to the task of making America great again...Gallup's most recent poll has Trump favorable/unfavorable rating at 32%/63% (Clinton is better but not by much at 41%/54%). For comparison, the same poll shows that most Americans (53%) give Obama a favorable job approval rating.

LOL!!!!! Greatest post ever. I (and innocent children) might die tomorrow in a mass shooting, but it has all been worth it. Wow. That's some sentiment you have.
