Elliott Maddox. He sued everyone in New York when he was injured in the outfield at Shea. Shame, he had the potential to be one of the greats.

Great photos -- Get well soon, Lou Brock -- one of the greats -- hopefully the adjustment to his prosthesis will go OK for one of the best base stealers of all time

Sad to see that about Lou - he was also one of my favorites...........one of the most exciting base stealers .......

ot the only one. Joe Adcock did so; Henry Aaron did it either the day before or after Brock. So did Luke Easler

Luke Easter hit one clean out of RFK Stadium during a 1980s Old Timers game one time (into the stands) -- at age 75
He should be well-enough set, hopefully Kevin McHale will just enjoy a well-deserved retirement now -- he was going thru w/his team what Bruins are going through --
Kevin also carries the scars of his career more than most, & someone that tall who limps like that could have it tough in later years -- he should spend time w/his family, manage his money & pay attention to his physical condition -- you rock, Kevin -- #32, in the rafters

1- The McHale; Bird; Parrish front line was perhaps Red A's greatest sign of genius. And remember; this was a guy who traded for the rights to Bill Russell.
2 - May years ago their was a sports illustrated article about Ted Williams - that spoke of the then mid to late 50's year old manager of the Rangers taking batting practice and ripping the cover off the ball. There is also the story of I think before the 1981 world series when Tom Lasorda pulled Koufax of the batting practice mound as the Dodgers couldn't touch him

I actually have this card.

a great player but I will always remember him most for
The Norm Cash stories–even just the ones that can be repeated–are endless. Like the time he was trapped between first and second base and he formed a “T’ with his hands to call time-out.
But the most comical and audacious move he ever made occurred on July 15, 1973 at Tiger Stadium when he stepped to the plate as the last hitter to face Nolan Ryan who was trying to complete his second career no hitter after striking out 17 batters.
After striking out three times, as legend has it Stormn’ Norman walked up to the plate with a table leg from the locker room. The plate umpire, Ron Luciano told him he couldn’t use it and Cash responded, “Why not I won’t him anyway” before tossing it aside.

Nov. 23 1977 -- NY Yankee WS hero Mike Torrez signs w/Sox -- ya the times were changing
a point brought home for good Nov. 14, 1978 -- Luis Tiant bolts Sox for Yanks -- at the positive height of the rivalry -- ya it was all about the $ now -- but no 1 could blame Luis, George S's deal gave him lifetime security, it was said at the time
Celts screwed up home&home w/lowly Bklyn last night (get back soon Marcus Smart)
B's can't afford to do same tonite in Tor. -- get back qwik Daniel Pastrnak

George Blanda
I will always remember 1970
In 1970, Blanda was released during the exhibition season, but bounced back to establish his 21st professional season. That season (1970) Blanda, at age 43, had a remarkable five-game run. Against the Steelers, Blanda threw for three touchdowns in relief of an injured Daryle Lamonica. One week later, his 48-yard field goal with three seconds remaining salvaged a 17–17 tie with the Kansas City Chiefs. On November 8, Blanda once again came off the bench to throw for a touchdown pass to tie the Cleveland Browns with 1:34 remaining, then kicked a 53-yard field goal with 0:03 left for the 23–20 win. Immediately after the winning field goal, Raiders radio announcer Bill King excitedly declared, "George Blanda has just been elected King of the World!"[3] In the team's next game, Blanda replaced Lamonica in the fourth quarter and connected with Fred Biletnikoff on a touchdown pass with 2:28 left in the game to defeat the Denver Broncos, 24–19. The streak concluded one week later when Blanda's 16-yard field goal in the closing seconds defeated the San Diego Chargers, 20–17.
In the AFC title game against the Baltimore Colts, Blanda again relieved an injured Lamonica, completing 17 of 32 passes for 217 yards and 2 touchdowns while also kicking a 48-yard field goal and two extra points, keeping the Raiders in the game until the final quarter, when he was intercepted twice. Aged 43, he became the oldest quarterback ever to play in a championship game, and was one of the few remaining straight-ahead kickers in the NFL.
Blanda's achievements resulted in his winning the Bert Bell Award. Chiefs' owner Lamar Hunt said, "Why, this George Blanda is as good as his father, who used to play for Houston." Although he never again played a major role at quarterback, Blanda would serve as the Raiders' kicker for five more seasons.

How can it be 36 years ago
but it was one of the greatest fights one could ever hope to see
Marvin Hagler-Vito Antuofermo, Nov. 30 1979
Both the challenger and heavy favorite, Marvin dominated the first half of the fight, then Vito came on in the last half
outcome, a 15-round draw that enabled Vito to keep his title in one of the great all-time contests -- in any sport

Statue unveiling yesterday in Easton PA for a deserving guy, Larry Holmes
The Easton Assassin -- he would've been a champion/contender in any era
the fight he won the title in, June 1978 w/Ken Norton, was 15 rounds of athletic competition at its best -- both guys spent after the 13th, & went extra/hung on as best they could over last 2 -- incredible stuff that made that year's two Ali-Spinks fights seem tame
