Reggie was always up there just to make good contact and hit the ball hard someplace. He would never overswing and that's what made him great.

A great player, but a short-lived candy bar. Reggie said that if he played in New York, they'd name a candy bar after him. I guess he thought the Baby Ruth was named after BABE Ruth (it was actually named after President Grover Cleveland's daughter).

EDDIE RICKENBACKER
Set a record w/134 MPH in 1915 or so -- in 1916, his last year as a racer, made $80,000 -- along w/Barney Oldfield a real pioneer, paving the way........

Stellar -- nope those 1967-68 Cards were top dogs -- most all those players now in the HOF -- their GM in 1967 was Stan The Man, in his 1 year in that capacity -- Tim McCarver had a cup of coffee with us late 1974-early 75 -- personally feel like Gibson and Maris should trade places but a great shot

Only picture I've ever seen of Gibson where I'm not scared of him

I was in the service watching the series with a roomful of my brothers in arms when Jackson hit those three straight dingers for the Yanks. It was awesome. Mr. October indeed.
Still think this is a great thread oak.

If you have a little time to kill put some music on, start at page one and scroll through the entire thread at the great photos that we have posted. It's really quite a gallery.

Great idea! Think I'll do that this evening. Now it's time for the track before it gets to be 100 in the shade.

McCarver wasn't the only out of town great to play for Sox in 1974-75 -- so did this great Tigers second 2nd baseman -- his career ended ingloriously though -- during the stretch run of our 1975 pennant year, on Sept. 1 he dropped a pop fly for an error, then later pulled Yastrzemski off the bag w/a bad throw to first -- he was left off post season roster
but of course he was 1 of league's top 2nd basemen on all those great Tygiz teams

Those Tygiz had some good defensive clubs. Al Kaline, Norm Cash, Mickey Stanley, Don Wert, Bill Freehan, McAuliffe.....All above average or near the top at their positions as defenders.

Luis Aparicio, same thing -- played his last 3 years w/Sawx -- retired at 39 after 1973 season in which he hit a solid .271, his best season w/us
Sawx fans know bettah than to just remembr Luis for The Stumble -- Oct. 2 1972 -- w/ 1/2 game lead over them, we needed 2 games to beat Tygiz for AL East title
but big rally in 1st game ended when Luis stumbled rounding 3rd on a screamer by Yaz -- they both ended up on 3rd base, then Reggie Smith fanned to end inning, Lolich went on to fan 15, Tygiz won 3-1 or so, then won div. winning next day's game, rendering moot the season finale -- which of course we won
But Luis was one of the definite greats w/ChiSox & Orioles

Chili Davis

Chili's our hitting coach -- Solid journeyman career -- I thought Bobby Bonds at 1st
Rick was immense w/a career-high 19 wins on our 1975 pennant team -- like Chili a solid career

Weeyd -- the other image came up on preview post too -- 1st time that's happened --

Rick Wise will always be remembered for his famous no-hitter against the Reds in 1971, in which he homered twice.

God rest his soul.
