Golden State Warriors Last Night

This game was hyped as last year's championship rematch, and the way Cleveland has been playing, I was hyped to see it.
Even a Warriors fan in the Bay area like me was shocked at what he saw. A 34 point ass-whuppin'?? In Cleveland, no less? Wow. The Warriors led by 40 points at times. After losing two of their last three. Proof positive that when the Warriors are clicking on all cylinders........they are downright scary. 38-4 now.

The Warriors look even better than they did last season, a 34-point blow out is pretty nuts. I hope they can sustain it into the playoffs, I am already pumped to witness a Spurs-Warriors Western Conference Finals - the Spurs are quietly just 2 games behind the Warriors. OKC might be able to do some damage as well.
Either way, it looks like another year where the Finals goes through The West.

Warriors-Spurs. What a contrast in styles. Looked at the box score for a Spurs game the other night; seemingly no one scored any points for them but they won by 14

The mugging in Detroit was the worst game I've seen this team play in years….and last night's game was the best I've seen this team play in years. What a display.

Year & year out, w/the same nucleus, all Spurs do is win -- looked up info on them recently, their record over the last 18 seasons (not incl this one) is the winningest ever compiled over a similar time span by any other team of the 4 major sports
Spurs pay GSW a visit Monday -- guaranteed it won't be the same beating that Cleve took last night -- the two best teams on the planet -- they close out the regular season too (next to last game)

I used to find the Spurs really annoying and tough to watch, but as they have done to their opponents over the years, they have ground me down and forced me to give them some grudging respect. They have had 16 straight 50-win seasons (would have been 18 if not for the strike-shortened 98-99 season). They have won 5 titles. I've actually been wondering which is more impressive - The Spurs (5 league championships, 5-1 Finals record) or The Patriots (4 league championships, 4-2 SB record) respective runs of the past 15 or so years? NBA teams are more likely to keep a team nucleus (or at least a marquee player) than an NFL team, but never even having an off year is pretty remarkable, especially in the much more stacked Western Conference.

I could not agree more. Hard to imagine the Warriors and Spurs not meeting in the playoffs. And when they do..........that will be the REAL NBA championship series. Let me add, considering the Spurs' age: I think it will really show against the Warriors. I just don't think S.A. can hang with them in a 7 game series. Then again, the Spurs are very deep like the Warriors, and once you get past the big three they've got some great younger players, particularly Khawi Leonard.

You know, I feel like people have been saying that about the Spurs for 7 or 8 years and all they do is prove people wrong. Not saying this year isn't the year that they hit the ceiling, but Pop does an exceptional job of resting these guys and keeping them fresh for the post season.

A. The Clippers eliminated the Spurs in the first round last year.
B. Duncan, Ginobili and Parker are older than they've ever been.
C. D, G and P will have to play more minutes than they have all year to beat the Warriors.
D. The Warriors are quite possibly the fastest team in the history of the NBA.
I just don't see the Spurs beating them. But as they say............"That's why they play the game".
Oh, by the way.........they meet this year for the first time, in Oakland, this coming Monday, 1/25.
You'd have to chain and drag me away from the tube for me to miss that one.

The West is always stacked and the Clippers have been pretty solid, that series went 7 games. The Spurs were also eliminated in the 1st round in 2000, 2009, and 2011. The Warriors are looking amazing right now, but the playoffs can be a grind. I'm just saying, don't sleep on the Spurs.

Apparently Cleveland's owner took personal offense to Monday's 34 point drubbing by the Warriors. Coach David Blatt is out despite Cleveland boasting the best record in the Eastern Conference.

Cleveland is what, 30-11, and that gets you fired? WOW expectations must be really high.
Ya think LeBron was consulted on this? 😉 .
It a players league for the most part. I like basketball, and I follow the Pacers, but it's the extra curicular stuff that kinda annoys and distances me more and more .
Blatt was hired, I beleive, before LeBron ever came back. Not sure if he would have been brought on if they knew for sure James was coming back.
Everyone has a plan, till you get punched in the face,

A lot of NBA coaches are really coming down on Cleveland for firing David Blatt. Detroit's Stan Van Gundy said, "You get fired for winning now as much as you get fired for losing." He also mentioned how shocked he was to see Kevin McHale get fired 11 games into this season after taking Houston to the Conference Finals last season.
Kind of like being a musician. If you're looking for job security...........don't become a coach.
Let me add that I can see why Blatt got fired despite his record. The entire Cleveland team looked confused and clueless as far as how to stop the Warriors last Monday. When you look confused and clueless, that's a reflection on the coach. And the Spurs pasted them within the same week that the Warriors did. They may have been 30-11 when he got fired, but if they're not even in contention with the best teams in the league..........that says a LOT.
[Edited on 1/24/2016 by robslob]

NBA coaches have no job security, but they do have the promise that they will immediately get hired somewhere else as the coaching carousel spins around. The Cavs are the best team in the East, but with the mediocre opposition, they should be better. They look a little rudderless and still haven't gelled.

Don't know about that, when you're 30-11 (30-12 now btw) seems like more of a statement thing than what's happening on the court -- ? is, will Cavs now go way of Pitts. Penguins, it the shitter -- they were winning they fired their coach too -- Cavs have LeBron tho, also Love & Irving
according to ESPN "Since Gregg Popovich became coach of the Spurs during the 1996-97 season, there have been 221 coaching changes in the NBA. TWO-TWENTY-ONE!"
#s don't lie, they're head & shoulders above everyone else in the league, & the world of pro sports
Our team (Celts) the hardest working & most fun to watch in league, doing well in relatively weak east
Out west (& elsewhere 😮 ), suddenly, mercurial genius/headcase brothers DeMarcus Cousins & Rajon R leading Kings to .500 with (not under 😮 ) George Karl -- jumped off nugs bandwagon when they parted ways in 2012 after nugs won 57 games -- mayb he's just letting them run the show now
no Duncan tonite, so SA not into it/biding time -- 'all bets off' 😮 😮 -- let's go Celts
[Edited on 1/25/2016 by Stephen]

Totally a statement, but also something wasn't working. You mentioned the Spurs, and it was pretty shocking when Pop fired the coach and took over in the middle of the season. Not saying Tyronn Lue, will be the answer that Pop has been (or stick around half as long), but sometimes you just need to mix things up to freshen up everyone's take.
Spurs-Warriors tonight - should be an interesting game, even without Duncan.

Sacramento beat Indiana Saturday night 108-97. Demarcus Cousins had a career high 48 to go with 13 boards. Rajon Rondo, triple double: 11 points, 10 assists, 10 boards. Those two are shaping up to be lethal together. Now if Cousins can control his emotions.............word is he's slowly getting better. George Karl has won everywhere he's ever been. Now if he can find the right shrink for Cousins..............
Duncan sitting out tonight likely will not make a ton of difference. He's not the face of the franchise anymore, Kawhi Leonard is, and Spurs still have LaMarcus Aldridge and others up front.
Can't wait for this one to start..............

George Karl has won everywhere he's ever been. Now if he can find the right shrink for Cousins..............
George Karl needs a shrink. He wins in the regular season, but can't in the post-season. Eventually he finds a way to tear the whole team down, publicly antagonize players. He did it in Seattle, he absolutely destroyed a great Bucks team, he never got the Nuggets out of the first round in 8 seasons and forced Melo out of town, and has been trying to move Cousins. Players call him "The Snake" for a reason. George Karl is locker room poison.

Yeah; but sometimes a head case can work best coaching other head cases. One never knows what alchemy will turn a mess into gold

Warriors 120, Spurs 90.
Wow. Somewhere, David Blatt is feeling a WHOLE lot better about himself right now.
It's a big win, and I'm very happy. A dominant display. The Warriors brought their A-game once again, just like they have in the past week vs. Cleveland and Chicago. Steph Curry? He's on another level than everyone else..........what else is there to say? 37 points in 28 minutes. No one on the Spurs could stop him, and they tried several guys. How does the MVP take it even higher? Curry has............because he WORKS. Curry sat out the 4th quarter, as he has in many games this season. That's a wonderful thing, too, because it keeps him fresh over the long haul.
That said, I'm not going to read TOO much into this. It's one win for one team, one loss for the other. The Spurs have beaten the Warriors an incredible 33 straight times in San Antonio in the regular season. The Warriors won one in S.A. in the playoffs a few years back, but lost the series. They meet three more times this year, one more in Oakland, two more in San Antonio.
Oh, one stat to consider: The Spurs' opponents are averaging 89 points per game. The Warriors put up 120 on them tonight. That's 31 points more than the Spurs normally allow. A close look at Tony Parker's face on the bench at the end of the game said it all.
Greg Popovich post-game: "It's a good thing my General Manager wasn't in the locker room after the game, it may have gotten me fired."
Reporter: "Going forward, how do you stop the Warriors' speed?"
Popovich: "I have no idea. I can't stop their speed. They're a great team. Their coach has them right where he wants them."

Saturday, Feb 6th: Golden State 116, OKC 108. The game was tied with 3:30 left. This was their first meeting this season and it was in Oakland. On Super Bowl eve, the stars were out!
I never thought the Warriors were going to blow the Thunder out of the gym like they did Cleveland, Chicago and San Antonio. It looked like they would in the first half but OKC came back.
The way Durant and Westbrook are playing right now, I think the Thunder will be the Warrior's biggest challenge come playoff time. Those two are just out of their minds. Durant did a crossover last night at the top of the key that was something right out of Curry's playbook.........at 6'10"?? Just unbelievable. And Westbrook is one of the top three players in the league right now, racking up triple doubles. If I had to name my top three right now, it would be Curry, Westbrook and Durant. Hard to leave out Kawhi Leonard though. Durant had 40 and 14 boards last night. Westbrook: 27, 12 assists, 3 boards. Curry had an "off" night if you can call 26 points, 10 assists and 6 boards an off night. He was 1-8 from three point range, a game after hitting for 51 at Washington.
The Warriors' record this year against Cleveland, San Antonio and Oklahoma City? 4-0.

Derek Fischer being fired is one thing, pretty much had to happen, esp in NYC -- still say Blatt is another case entirely tho -- great record, fired for....clubhouse culture or some BULLSH!T
just getting into the playoffs in the western conference when Karl had nugs was saying something -- the lower-tier teams always had better records than the upper-tier East teams -- but same thing, like Blatt, Karl fired after nugs won 57 games a few years back -- they called it "a parting of the ways" -- crap only to be found in pro sports
Incorrect about him forcing Melo out of Denver, Melo on many occasions had said how he'd like to play in front of his NYC home crowd -- he made it clear well ahead of time, not out of spite or anything, that he wasn't going to re-sign w/Denver at end of his contract, that's why they traded him -- & nugs made out like a bandit too, they flourished while NYK shit the bed -- you could look it up
so you can get canned even when you're doing well -- but yes, Karl will be next -- they made some noise against us in the latter stages of ystrdy's game but overall, Kings/Karl going way of NYK/Fischer -- also Kurt Rambis 😮
Jazz, my west. conf team finally to .500 & hitting stride -- Trey Burke just 3 min the other night, he & Alec Burks (injury) out of picture -- as always, they have a great nucleus when healthy....
I Love Our Team -- special -- Let's Go Celts
[Edited on 2/8/2016 by Stephen]

I like the trade the Pistons made today. Adding Barnes gives them a nice young nucleus of talent. Most of them under contract for multiple years.

We can pass Memphis for 8th overall w/a win tonite over Bryant "Big Country" Reeves & the Vancooo, I mean Tony Allen & the Grizzlios from Beale St.
Olynyk's shoulder looking worse than 1st thought by the look of it -- he's too key a part of the rotation for us to not feel his absence -- let's go C's
what was with that GSW-LAL mail-in anyway -- talk about a "Feel-Good-athon For Kobe" game -- GSW should be fined, just like SAS were couple seasons ago for not playing Big 3 -- Warriyz just went thru the motions according to the reports -- they could beat them in their sleep 9.9 outta 10
Greg Popovich, the George Martin of the Spurs, is out 2 games --
what Angelo Dundee was to Muhammad Ali, George was to the lads

I think we can beat them -- we've been OK in back to backs this year -- we gave them a tough game before (2OT) -- same Jazz Wed. (OT)
but they are some squad -- who's better, GSW or 90s Bulls --
JC semi-ready to play 2nite -- we can still take 3rd place -- let's go Celts -- just like before in Boston boys -- shoot the works tonite in a fun one against the best in the world

I've been telling people since '07 that Stephen Curry is the greatest shooter I've seen - he went to Davidson, which was 5 minutes from my house at that time, and I'm STILL kicking myself for never seeing him play there - but with all due respect, there is absolutely NO WAY that this Warriors team is better than the Bulls in the '90s.
Talk to me after they've won 7.
As in Championships.

Well, well. Getting on an early flight so didn't stay up to see the game, but just saw the score. The streak ends at 54.
[Edited on 4/2/2016 by gondicar]

Well, gotta give a big congrats to my on-line buddies Stephen and gondicar! Ending a 54 game home win streak (an NBA record) is no small achievement!
I didn't see the game, I was at Anders Osborne @ The Fillmore (GREAT show by the way). Got it on my DVR, I'm off this weekend, likely I'll watch it tonight even though I know the outcome. This is history. I'm interested in seeing how the Celts were able to beat them.
Gotta hand it to the Celts, they have given the Warriors ALL they could handle both times they've played. I'm sure you remember, the game in Boston was double OT even though Warriors pulled it out. We are now 68-8. Something tells me we're gonna be fine..............

Saw highlights today. Celts played good D and the Warriors got sloppy. Steph still had a chance at the end to at least sent it to OT and for once he missed.
Celts have some spunk. Not enough to talent to win a championship yet, but I think that might not be far off. Their coach is the real deal.
PS - left the house at 4am to catch a flight to NYC. Not sitting at JFK for delayed flight home now scheduled to leave at 11:25. Long effing day.

JFK sucks. Flew in and out of there back in '85 and NEVER AGAIN. I'd rather fly into Newark, even (LaGuardia being the #1 choice) but of course you have no choice if you're flying internationally...
