Democrats reject Obama's Trade agenda

Obama failed. I'm glad he did. I think the American People won.
You obviously want more jobs shipped overseas Mule. You must be on some sort of government assistance, feeling entitled and happy. Me? I want Americans to have jobs. I don't think this trade deal would have helped create jobs.
So... the Republicans have Congress, they had the backing - no wait - as you said the President was begging for this trade deal, yet the Republicans could not pass the deal.
You don't think the Republicans failed?
What color is the sky in your world Mule?

Mule has been bragging about the Republicans control Congress since the mid term elections and how the people have spoken, blah blah blah, and what have they done with these supposed magical powers? nothing.......
They can't even get a simple trade bill passed, with no poison pill amendments attached, with the support of the President no less. Mule and the others are so obsessed with hating Obama they can't even admit the failure of their own party.
No deflection here Mule just stating the facts. This was a GOP driven bill and it failed even with their majority control of Congress. It is refreshing to know the Democrats do not blindly support every job killing bill like the bunch of GOP sheep who are forced to vote party lines for fear of losing their job next election.
I say this was Democracy at its finest. The GOP needs to go look in the mirror on this one.

See? I told you gridlock has an upside. The government was designed for gridlock.

it is amusing to watch the conservaives here trip all over themselves to make it point about how this is Obama's failure yet not acknowledge that it is a GOP failure as well as it is a bill they support.
So much for their majority in Congress being a game changer....

The Republicans overwhelmingly voted for the deal.
Side issues and deflection aside, Obama wanted this trade deal badly and publically pushed for it. He personally went to Capitol Hill to beg his party members to support him and his trade deal. His party rejected him.
The Democrats, led by Pelosi, opted for their Union money and voted against their President.Obama again fails.
158 Republicans out of 244 voted against the bill.

Lazy, low quality and transparent trolling Mule

house republicans will likely bring this trade deal up for vote again next week to try and salvage it. hopefully it will be shot down again.
You never know in these days of corporate owned "democracy".
At least Hillary and Bernie have come out against the deal. It is nice that they are standing up to that Socialist Obama.

So I assume you three making up the right wing brain trust wanted the trade deal to work?
I don't think they really care. They really only want to make Obama look bad as often as possible. I think they are still afraid he will be reelected again.

Apparently you didn’t see the vote.
Republicans worked with Obama to get the deal done.
The Democrats voted against it.

As did the Republican leadership.

So I assume you three making up the right wing brain trust wanted the trade deal to work?
Yes. Of course I did. I favor free trade. Always have and always will. I favored it when President Clinton championed it and favor it now. But I fully expected this result. Not only do most Democrats today NOT favor it but they owe absolutely NOTHING to Obama and it doesn't surprise me at all that they would screw him over. The only ones not surprised were Obama and the White House who seem to cling to this bizarre idea that he is a powerful and respected figure.
And so much for the canard that the Republicans will automatically oppose anything Obama favors. Maybe just maybe their opposition to his disastrous policies is because they are disastrous.

The deal would have given a President accelerated authority to make trade deals and required Congress to vote up or down on it before it could go into effect.
There are arguments on both sides. More/easier trade is good for manufacturing but labor costs and government regulations in The U.S. would help other countries jobs more than The U.S., maybe. Much depends on which politician is doing the spinning.
The unions were raising hell with their Democrats who they control with political donations. Yesterday Pelosi rallied the House Democrats against Obama reminding them that they all have to be re-elected.
It is not that Obama has never learned how to work with Congress; he refuses to work with The Republicans.
While he, in front of the TV cameras says he “wants to work with the Congress” he in fact never does. When he meets with “Congressional leaders” it is usually only with Democrats. Well that worked when he had Pelosi and Reid to block anything the Republicans brought to the table but now that those two lost their power Obama’s agenda is in trouble. The funny came at The White House after the vote with Obama’s mouthpiece trying to spin the defeat and struggling to blame Republicans. He looked like he wanted to anywhere else than in the press room.
President Reagan (R), who never had a Republican majority Congress and Speaker Tip O’Neill (D) go the work done.
It is a matter of leadership.
He refuses to work with Democrats either. Congressional Democrats can't stand him and his arrogance.

Obama failed. I'm glad he did. I think the American People won.

See? I told you gridlock has an upside. The government was designed for gridlock.
The left opposes gridlock when it blocks their agenda. Otherwise they are all for it.

And so much for the canard that the Republicans will automatically oppose anything Obama favors. Maybe just maybe their opposition to his disastrous policies is because they are disastrous.
2/3rds of them opposed it, even though free-trade is a Republican ideal. I'm guessing they would have approved it if their was a different occupant in the White House.

Do you mean like NAFTA, Bill Clinton’s trade deal?

Not all Republicans favor free trade anymore. Unfortunately.

Free trade has traditionally been a GOP ideal, and NAFTA is no different despite Clinton's support. NAFTA passed the House with 234 for and 200 against, which is just 16 more votes than the 218 needed for passage. The GOP supported it overwhelmingly with 132 for and 43 against. Democrats overall were against it, 102 for and 156 opposed (the one independent in Congress at the time voted against).

Hillary was all for it before she was against it.
Of course with Obama's track record Hillary has to be against it now.

Washington (CNN)—The President's trade agenda scored a major victory Tuesday when the Senate voted to advance a bill to allow "fast-track" approval of large international trade bills.
The outcome of this key procedural vote had been in doubt as a group of 14 pro-trade Democrats weighed whether to continue their support of the bill out of concern that a related workers' assistance package might not pass both chambers.
But after repeated assurances by GOP congressional leaders that workers' assistance measure will be adopted, 13 out of 14 backed the bill.
The vote was 60 to 37, passing by the slimmest margin needed to pass.

Talk about leading questions. HAHAHAHAHa. I'm not even going to wate my time attempting to explain anything to you. Your mind is clearly snapped shut.

You are clearly not very bright then. sending good paying american jobs to slave wage country's is exactly what these trade deals accomplish.

Okay pops, why are companies fleeing states that give into union demands for states that have right-to-work laws?I support the Obama trade deal. I'd just like to know what we can get for him.

Everything We Know So Far About Obama's Secret Trade Deal
July 7, 2015
By Mike Pearl
Staff Writer
President Barack Obama has been riding high these last few weeks, cementing his legacy with landmark victories on healthcare, gay marriage, and opening a first US Embassy in Cuba for the first time since the Cold War. Between the rainbow flag waving and soaring eulogy-writing, though, it was easy to miss what may have been the president's most significant—and controversial—victory: the signing of a Trade Promotion Authority bill that gives Obama filibuster-proof superpowers when it comes to negotiating trade deals.
The legislation, formally known as the Trade Promotion Authority, passed the Senate at the end of last month, clearing a major hurdle for Obama's trade agenda after months of heated debate that divided the Democratic Party. Basically, it means that Congress will only be able to vote thumbs-up or thumbs-down on trade deals, specifically the massive Trans Pacific Partnership deal that Obama is currently trying to lock down.
