Darlington

About fifteen years ago, NASCAR made the decision to fix something that wasn't broken, putting short-term gain over long term success.
The Southern 500, a long Labor Day Weekend tradition at the very track that in many ways defines the history of the sport, was ripped from the hearts of the fans that help build a glorious legacy that lasted for decades. Taken away to give a race date to a soulless cookie cutter monstrosity in some depressing industrial park somewhere in California.
This weekend, a wrong will finally be righted. The Lady in Black gets her crown jewel back, The Southern 500.
Too Tough To Tame? You bet.
Drivers, start your engines.

When does the chase start?

Awesome track, awesome race.
I have been to this track and was amazed at how the turn 4 wall actually comes out at the cars. It looks a little weird on TV, but in person you see why.
Not finding a good image that depicts this, but I swear, the wall there bends out into the track, ever so slightly
And the cars, man they are sliding around those corners, sliding, like on a dirt track almost, incredible racing !

If a guy who works at a pharmacy is a pharmacist ... is a guy who drives a race car a racist?

Great post bhawk! Great to see an old tradition being restored & brought back to its proper time And Venue!
good holiday weekend to all

Looking forward to race, thinking the 88 is due.

If Michael Waltrip got divorced and his ex married Greg Biffle, her name would be Buffy Biffle.

Now that would just be funny.
Southeners would git it.

I guess they didn't remember to bring back the guy in the Confederate uniform with the battle flag riding on the hood of the winner into victory lane, or the bathing beauty to kiss the winner (Miss Southern 500).
Still, I loved the throwback paint jobs and the old heroes getting turns around the track.
i would love to see a race between the 60's cars and the new ones.
