Who's watching games Saturday?
Count me in.
Certainly a very interesting game for both teams.
It seems like Frost is walking the plank...turning the offense over to Whipple. Whipple hire was maybe Albert's idea, as in, the only way Frost could try and save this thing. I don't know. I could see some behind the scenes tension and conflict between them. I think Whipple is a take charge guy. But things haven't turned out so well for Frost in Lincoln to date.
Big number. Big number given the history of the games between these teams in B1G play. Last year was a beat down being the exception.
Northwestern typically has bounce back years under Fitz. Their O has gone away before, but I can't recall the D being as bad as it was under him last season. NW needs some QB play this year.
Speaking of QB play, you going to be keeping an eye on Kansas State this year? Feel like Martinez might be pretty good on that team and K St might be a little sneaky in that league this year.

I see K State players named Martinez a captain. Honestly, I expect no difference in his ability to win games. Gets close, usually makes a critical turnover or mistake in judgment. I guess we'll see.
Lots of points to give Saturday I think based partially on how badly we beat them last year. I can't imagine N'Western is really much better than a year ago. I won't have much on it but I'll have the Huskers.
"Is that a real poncho or is that a Sears poncho?"

Looking forward to Saturday. 13.5 seems like a lot to give NW. Couldn't tell you the last time Nebraska has won by that many.
Also want to watch the next game, Wyoming/Illinois. Since I live in Illinois it is always fun to watch what goes on there. Believe it or not, there are some college football fans here.
But for some reason I kind of took to Wyoming a few years ago. When I worked Northwestern night games I would get home and Wyoming would be on and I would stay up and watch them. They play a fun brand of football.

It's Game Day!
Bill joined the pick'em!! One week til it the pick'em starts so maybe a couple more will sign up still.
I don't think I will have much action today, more of data gathering knowledge on these teams for future use. North Texas - UTEP should be a real tight game.
Rich Rod is back in a head coaching role, he'll open up his new team Jacksonville State as a dog against Stephen F Austin. I did put a small play on SFA.
Bunch of teams that are hard to assess at this point. Nevada - New Mexico State has a lot of intrigue for me. What will Nevada look like (they lost 45 players off last year's team for various reasons and their best (and only) returning OL is injured as is their best DB...so make that 47 players down. But they possess two quality RBs and an undersized but strong nose tackle Dom Peterson. Jerry Kill is back as a head man in Las Cruses with New Mex St U! Other than their near fairy tail season in 2017, NMSU is a doormat, but maybe the new life and pedigree of Jerry Kill and Co plus some serious questions about Nevada give them some hope to pull the home upset? I think I might look to a 1H ML for NMSU, over the course of 4Q the Nevada running game could be too much to win, but hopefully the Aggies can compete here.
Vandy -9...when is the last time Vandy has won by DD? It's been 2+ seasons. They nearly lost to lowly UConn last year and only beat CSU by 3. Plus a 21 pt loss to ETSU as a 21 pt fav! I do think Vandy will be ok with the win here, although I'm not racing to lay the pts on them. Hawaii is kind of a mess, but they do have favorite son Timmy Chang taking over and I heard the game is supposed to be a sell out.

Week 0. Go Northwestern Wildcats! (Soon to be a conference rival for my Bruins...) Pat Fitzgerald is the most under-rated and under-appreciated coach in college football. I believe this is his 17th season. Keep doing it Pat!

This anyone see this? Too funny. I would have gotten enough refreshments to pay for my flight there!

I guess Frost giving up the play calling allowed him extra time to come up with that onside kick decision....
What a dumbass. A decade worth of various coaching responsibilities and game scenarios and that's the genius idea he decided upon. He's had every opportunity to show he can be a successful Power 5 conference football coach and it's painfully obvious he'll always be playing checkers while in a game of chess.
Probably the worst thing that happened to him was the 13-0 Central Florida season and developing the idea that he was then an accomplished coach and he could succeed anywhere.
Actually not all that surprised by the outcome yesterday, not at all. Just wish I could have gotten in on the free beer during the game.
Feel bad for some of the new coaches on staff like Joseph because all of them will be looking for jobs after the season.

Why is the first week called "Week 0"? Weren't games played this past weekend?

Man Nebraska...I did have Northwestern, but I messed it up with the Under. 1H Under would've hit if Nebraska could've held one more down and NW would've attempted a FG, but Nebraska lets a guy get open in the EZ on 3rd down with like :20 left and half goes Over.
Having been a Nebraska fan growing up, I feel bad for the fans, I feel bad for the team. And I feel bad for Frost because so many people really wanted this to work. But things don't always work out.

The week numbering I have heard originated with the sports books in Vegas. Everything was supposed to be named based on the NFL. So if NFL week 1 is weekend after Labor Day, then any games played before that should be called week 0. I don't know when they stopped or moved it, but NFL used to start Labor Day weekend.
There was never supposed to be a week 1 college and a different week 1 NFL. They were supposed to align, but I'm not sure if that thinking is still a thing. Because last week was week 0 college (14 FBS and FCS games) and this upcoming Labor Day weekend is week 1 and week 2 college is when week 1 NFL starts. They wanted all the week designations to be the same.

Rich Rod won his first game, was like a TD+ dog, but bets would've been voided, they had lengthy weather delay and called the game with maybe 10-11 minutes. Games have to go 55 minutes for "action" as they call it. I had a bet on a good line on SFA, so I'm glad they voided it. Was surprised Jacksonville State cameback like they did. SFA was up on them early and then as the game went on Jax St started rolling.
Night games were kind of a bust.
Not a good measuring stick, Mercer blew some team named Moorehead State out (they were 30 pt favs). Mercer is at Auburn this week. Georgia State nearly won at Auburn last year. Not a lot of people are high on Auburn right now. Early number is Auburn -31.5. I expect that number to come down significantly as more books post the FBS vs FCS lines. Longshot that Mercer wins straight up, longshot, but not impossible.

But the week designations don't align. College will have two weeks in when the NFL plays their week 1. I did like it when that lined up. Just made thinks simpler. But college doesn't play 17 weeks either so you have that.
As to when the NFL stopped on Labor Day weekend, I don't recall that either but boy, did it make for a great holiday weekend!

Who woulda thought Nebish would be the only one to not make picks tonight? I was the only 1 to get the first game right, let's just call it a season after that one ...

It's crazy. I can't believe it either! I would've had Western Mich, ILL and Colorado. So in that respect I am only behind by 1 point.
Upset of the day for Saturday...South Dakota State beats Iowa!

Adding to the FCS vs FBS intrigue today...Delaware has a shot at beating Navy and I already said I thought Mercer has a chance, which would be insane (they are 30+ pt dog)! UC Davis could compete with Cal (which would make Stratdal happy if Davis could beat Kal).
Nebraska will not be in a one score game today for a change. North Dakota (not State) isn't awful, but Nebraska should be in the 40s and ND will contribute some but won't be close. That will feel good for Husker fans to beat somebody, anybody by DD!
Norther Iowa - Air Force could be a game. And Nichols vs South Bama, SE La vs ULL...Maine vs New Mexico.
We had our first FCS upset of FBS team last night (William and Mary beat Charlotte). This year FCS teams were 3-1 ATS week 0, 6-3 ATS on Thursday (didn't count VMI/WF as the margin was right at the number, either team could be counted the winner within a half pt). Last night, FCS teams were 2-1 ATS. So 11-5 ATS vs their FBS counterparts. I think we get a few upsets today and maybe a big shocker! I will have a few dollars on some of those just in case.

Except that everyone is 0-0. Hmm Yahoo...

Not if you look at the group picks ....

Why is the overview 0-0? That's kind of confusing.

It's the first week. Once the season gets going, they usually update Saturday morning and then Sunday morning. It's not a running total while the games are going on - that's what the Group Picks are for.

Week 1 - who invited Wharfrat anyway? Anytime you get better than 50% you are doing pretty good ....

To me it looks like most of us kind of laid an egg. Some of the upsets were unreal. Notre Dame, A&M. Bama could have lost too. The Pitt game was something. They need to hire a kicker.

Days like yesterday, that is why I watch college football! 11 FBS vs FBS upsets, 7 of which were double digits, almost all doing it on the road. 4 more FCS vs FBS upsets. Awesome!
The best thing about college football is it's consistent inconsistency. One year ago Texas lost at home to Kansas and less than a year later they nearly beat mightly Alabama. Northwestern won week 0 as a DD dog, they lost at home yesterday as a DD fav! Florida beats the PAC12's "best" Utah, but can't beat Kentucky. AR for Heisman? Crickets now. Funny how that works. Preseason rankings, you can wipe your butt with them, that is all they are good for. Ohio State won a lower scoring competitive game vs Notre Dame, but hey Notre Dame was the #5 team in the country right? Phooey! Haha. Never used that word before. Texas A&M is a fraud...
Top of the Big Ten? Did pretty good yesterday. But some of the rest...how about Nebraska losing yet another one score game to Georgia Southern of all teams. Iowa's #131st ranked offense loses at home to a team that graduated all their stars, Wisconsin loses at home to a perceived weak PAC 12 team. Indiana was shut out at home halftime to an FCS team. Northwestern's positive momentum just got fumbled through the endzone.
So fun.

Last week, 3 people got more than 50% right. This week - none. Picking against the spread is always a crapshoot - look how many games are close to what the spread was.
Frost out at Kneeebraska - waiting for coot* to chime in ...

As a midwestern guy I am obviously interested in The Big Ten. There were some good games Saturday. I didn't think NW would lose at home although they gave it a shot. I like Michigan choosing the starting QB. I really think they made the right choice. Michigan State is a road dog this week as an 11 seed? Nebraska? I'm glad I am not a fan. Iowa's offense is abysmal. Their defense, their DEFENSE outscored the offense in the first week.

Weird - I was making my picks, and they took out the UCF-SMU game - hurricane related I guess, but it wouldn't let me save my picks - had to re-enter all of them.

I just did my Saturday picks this morning and it was gone. Did you have to reenter your's and resave it then?
Looks like both teams had a bye week next week, very convenient. Tough time to host a football game. I'm sure UCF doesn't want to lose the home game, but they could've flipped it to Dallas and play at SMU. They rescheduled for Wednesday night in Orlando.
UCLA big win - strat!
Northwestern have a shot today in Happy Valley? I love me some big upsets!

It gave me an error when I tried to save my picks - I had to go out and then re-enter all the picks to save them. Must have been in while they were changing that game - luckily I wrote down my picks before getting out ...

Good thing I got them in - looks like Wharfy decided to give us all a chance to catch up ...
