Can we have a new Forum?

There should be a forum exclusively for homosexuality where posters who drag it into every topic could exhaust themselves. Somehow, it manages to derail any topic - whether music, politics, or sports - and disrupts any discussion on the merits.
As far as the United States is concerned, the constitution grants rights to all PERSONS. Without qualification.
Yes, I respect free speech as a fundamental right, but I'd just like to see this topic elsewhere. As it stands, a thread could be "Martians have landed" and a poster will question their sexual orientation, and if not heterosexual, go on to berate them.
It's old. It's lame. It's boring.

Can't say I can remember it ever coming up. As I look at the last 15-20 topics here in Anything Goes, I don't see it either. I think you might have meant this post for the Whipping Post. I tend to stay out of there do to the incivility.

You're right. I guess a thread goes to the WP after it becomes a certain length? I never go there directly.

No, you have to go there directly, just like you came to "Anything Goes" directly.
I'm clicking through all of the threads on this forum and am not seeing ANY references to homosexuality. Maybe you dreamt it.

and, racist...

No, you have to go there directly, just like you came to "Anything Goes" directly.
Nope. I clicked on today's top post in Anything Goes "GOP candidate Carson..." and there I was in WP. That thread was just started 9/20. So, any hope of a reasonable discussion of a question that arose in the 1960 election as to whether JFK would follow the pope or the constitution and has reappeared is doomed. Someone will turn it into a question of homosexuality.

Maybe this is the new homosexuality thread.
Well done!

Even if you are in the Anything Goes section if you click today's messages you will see all the posts from any section. Which anymore sadly the bulk of posting is going on in the Whipping Post section. I usually check the site out by clicking today's messages which usually leaves me thinking why even come here anymore.

So I discovered. Thanks for the explanation.

I usually log into the todays message thread and am constantly amazed at how many posts seem to deal with politics , none of which interest me Surprising on a message board dedicated to a band. I know they are broken up so there is not much new stuff to talk about but I don't get all the political stuff

Why should there be a specific thread for one groups sexuality? I understand what you are saying that it comes up related to other issues, but that is also part of the problem. Why do homosexuals feel the need to use their sexuality to advance their agendas and displeasure? They were given equal rights to housing, jobs (cannot discriminate or refuse to hire people on the basis of their sexual orientation), and ministers were performing civil union marriage ceremonies for them.
They wanted to change an entire society, and the laws of an entire nation. That was not necessary. Why do they need to re-define what marriage is? They can live with their partners anywhere, work, adopt children they already had those rights, and the Supreme Court should not have gotten involved in any national debate. Those rights belonged to the states to let communities decide how their people want to live. The states decide these things, so why should the states not be the ones to take up defining marriage.
Peoples sexuality is based on individual preferences and/or religious mandates that they follow. Homosexuals should just live their lives like everybody else, and stop trying to re-define marriage or what is acceptable for an entire nation of people. Did heterosexuals ever force people to get married because of how they defined acceptable sex? No other group other than the homosexuals has tried to force their way of living on anybody else. Yet they use their sexuality as their cause, why can't they just be happy with their choices, live their lives and not try to convince others that their way is the right way?
They dragged it into the Boy Scouts, and the military, it existed for years in professional sports and other professions. People just need to live their lives, keep their sex between themselves and their partners and not make national issues over it. that's what I am saying.

I clicked on the "Today's Messages" button for the first time ever on this site. Since I don't find the Whipping Post very civil, I don't think I'll be using that feature because it pulls up the Whipping Post messages (and I rarely post there).
Basically, this complaint/thread really should be directed at and posted on the Whipping Post, not the Anything Goes board, as we don't have that problem here.

I had never used the Today's Messages option so I did not understand the problem. There is your cure, cyclone88; Don't use the Today's Messages option. Just go to Anything Goes.
Gina, here's to you for proving this guy's point, though. What an incoherent rant!!

uh ohh........and here's where it all goes off the rails....

Yeah, I was wondering what he was talking about.
Took me a bit of looking before I found the "Todays Messages" button.

Note to self--NEVER touch the "Today's Messages" button on this website.
If you avoid the Whipping Post entirely, as I tend to do these days, this board can be very pleasant. Maybe a little boring and inactive, but pleasant.
The very fact the WP exists is a testimony to the fact that this website has never really been interested in moderating anything in any kind of meaningful fashion. Rather than enforce grownup behavior, they just cordoned off a section of bandwidth and said "Go for it, just do it over here."
Instead of enforcing a reasonable policy that threads should be ABB-related and posts should be civil, they created a nightmare that exemplifies much of what is wrong with the Internet.
As far as I know Lana and Rowland have always hosted this site for free, and along with many others I appreciate them for doing so. But if the ABB had been willing to pay for even one person to work on this website full-time as their main job, they could have had a website worthy of their music.

I always clicked on the "Anything Goes" link and avoid the Whipping Post.
Here's why:

They can live with their partners anywhere, work, adopt children they already had those rights, and the Supreme Court should not have gotten involved in any national debate. Those rights belonged to the states to let communities decide how their people want to live. I hate to even bring this up because people tend to just get sleazy, but states have the right (and have done so) to define oral sex as sodomy, and some have done so. Virginia is one state that outlaws this practice. (don't get caught in a limo coming from Washington participating in it or you have broken the law, the state law). The states decide these things, so why should the states not be the ones to take up defining marriage.

Wow. I mean, wow. OMG, wow. Words almost fail me.

The WP is a shell of its former self. Probably a good thing. Several years ago when it got REALLY bad, the measures taken were the right ones, IMO.
As to threads only being ABB-related, I go to other band forums and there are also threads on all kinds of things from politics to food to books and everything else. There is one forum I frequent where the political threads are literally locked in a separate room, you have to ask permission to join it, if you don't even ask you don't even see it, and people get banned on second offenses.
Most of the truly bitter, hateful and awful arguments on the internet are mostly on Facebook now anyway. 😛

Almost 10 years hanging out here and I had never clicked on it until yesterday. 😛

Despite it's flaws, the WP is one of the most respectful and informative discussion forums out there. The nature of the forum is clearly stated, as are the other forums on this thread, including those explicitly designed for music, the band, music trading, individual band members, etc. The WP allows all those other forums to remain relatively free of political/current event topics. I think the admins do a good job with this site and took all the necessary steps to clean things up when they got out of hand several years ago. Believe it or not, the WP is a shell of its former self these days.

I never really understood why people go to discuss something as awesome as a band they like, and then decide to rant about politics. Well, I guess that's the internet in a nutshell for you - people can't help but blindly grind their axe, as evidenced by the existence of this thread (no idea what you are talking about, cyclone, but gina took your bait).
I have gone over to the Whipping Post only because, much to my disappointment, for some reason the NFL thread is over there, which is a pretty civil thread. Occasionally I have found myself scrolling through some of the other threads and they are total train wrecks - it's always depressing. And I don't mean because of the diversity of peoples' beliefs or political persuasions necessarily, but the venom and condescension is mind boggling considering this is a place to share and talk about one of the most beautiful things on the planet: MUSIC.

There are questions and points made in my post.
1) Why should there be a specific threat for one group of people about their sexual preferences?
2) Why do they feel they have to highlight and use their sexuality to push forward a political agenda on the nation?
3) Why do they need to re-define marriage, and why are they forcing a nation to do that? It is not necessary, they already have equal rights to cohabit anywhere they want, work anywhere, and live like any other couples.
4) Changing laws and re-defining marriage is not a right or responsibility of the Federal Govt.
Those are the points and questions, now what is it that you do not understand?
The Whippin' Post has always been the political section of the board, and even when the FAX incident occurred, it was there we tried to get that decision reversed. The Anything Goes became a keep your head in the sand and only talk about Music area, we all understand that, and I will respect that evolution as I have. My interest was raised when I saw the thread title, which is why I responded after reading it.

Ron, you are a Whippin' Post forumite, hanging with people who don't want to think about or talk about anything other than music seems beneath your intellect and capabilities. Just my opinion.

Can someone please take out the trash?
it's starting to smell in here.

Who even know a "Today's messages" section existed? Not me. Clicked on it once, not going back to that option.
Speaking of Whippin Post, can this be moved there?

Never have clicked the today's messages, but did just notice the hot topics link no longer exists.

Today's messages shall rise....

Today's messages shall rise....
I got that one, hahaha - this thread made me think of Dr Doom, too.

Who was the guy that ended up in the permanent playpen that lived in Northern California? Always yammered on about how good his weed was?

SantaCruzBluz. I think he was the motivation for creating the playpen.
